Key pouch stitching

Thanks for your input everyone! I'm still not quite sure what to do - I'm not sure if the stitching is truly sloppy or not... I'm now trying to research old posts/pictures and Youtube videos to try and compare...

I would think when you pay $255 (in AU) for a tiny pouch it should be well made. I would want one with neat tight stitching myself.
I agree. If the hole is too big it is defective. It should be beautiful all around. Don't settle for less

Don't be bothered by those who think it is ok to pay premium price for poor workmanship product. Those pp are just paying for the brand names. They are not looking for quality.

Who you talkin about? Not a very charitable take if you mean posters on this thread.

I have never, ever heard of or seen a failure of a poche cles because of the stitching described above. No coin falling out, no tearing apart, no premature wearing out. And that's why such nonissues are described as such.

Just out of curiosity, what might cause the larger stitch holes? Needles too big/blunt? Pulling of the material when stitching, especially around the corners?
Probably the tension pulling on the canvas when flipping the canvas after sewing and when the worker works the canvas to straighten out the edges and form the corner (really can't be avoided to be honest, unless you just don't flip it, in that case you get a pouch like the NF pouch). Also remember the needle is thicker than the thread, given that the thread has to be able to go through the needle and all.

I don't quite understand why people think the stitching is sloppy when they can see a bit of the thread or a stitch hole? I would only expect not to see any stitching when there is piping between the 2 layers as it would probably be too difficult to get the canvas folded close enough to the seam for it to show.

Edit: I just checked my DE cles and I have light coming through almost the whole bottom. Don't worry the light isn't from stitch holes from what I can tell, it's from between the threads between the layers of canvas. You wouldn't want the stitching so tight to squeeze the pieces together, as that could cause tearing along the stitch holes so I think this is fine. So don't fret and enjoy your cles! :)

What are people planning on storing in their key pouches / pochettes cles that they need to be lightproof?

Will light damage your keys or cards?

Not the op, but I have a cles I purchased a few weeks ago (best of the bunch of 4 that I looked at) that had loose stitching, visible holes in the canvas. I can totally see through the cles.

For me the see through quality concern is about the canvas splitting, stitches popping over time.as long as that doesn't happen, I will be happy.

I think we should expect superior quality. Isn't that what luxury brands are about and what we pay for? I just started looking at LV and buying a few things, and I'm disappointed with the quality of the hardware, and now thanks to this post, the stitching in my coin pouch.

Not really. You could get a bespoke bag made by someone out of a small shop that would be much higher quality and cost less. People just tell themselves that luxury quality is the best or highest in order to justify their purchases.

I would not and have never looked this closely at any of my designer products. A handbag or SLG is meant to be used. Cles definitely meant to be used daily and harshly. So I would just use it. And not think too much about it.

This is not precision product like a computer or a watch. When part of it are man made, you'll have variations in quality. No two cles are meant to be identical. It's normal.

Here is my cherry cles from at least 10 years back. It's in very good condition, other than the daily wear and tear. Now, that it's been mentioned, I looked at the inside of the key pouch and could see light shining through too. It's not a big deal. Because realistically, when you stitch two pieces of canvas together, they won't bind like soft fabric or soft leather. So this construction is normal.IMG_6055.JPG IMG_6057.JPG

I agree; I’m not being flip, but I don’t see the issue with light coming through. It’s not a dry-sac that needs to be fully watertight.

I just pulled out my DA Cles that holds my car key fob and garage door opener; the alignment is very good, but it shows light. It hasn't caused any issues whatsoever in this heavily used piece. Now that I carefully inspect it, the stitching on one corner isn't quite perfect. I've never noticed and it still looks new.

I think your piece is fine; enjoy it.

Does yours have big stitching holes at sides or bottom? Can you post a picture of it? Just want to see how stitching holes look like after 10 years wear and tear? Thanks.
