Joseph Duclos Thread

I started this thread because I absolutely love the Diane and hope to own one one day. To make clear, TPF did not ask me to start it or even discuss JD at any time.
Plus this thread was started by way before the JD partnership (used to be in the normal handbag sub forum for mixed brands). For all those that are skeptics ;)

I would also add that if there were some nefarious paid plot behind this thread, then surely the all-negative posts from the misinformed noob (who only “contributes” here) would be nixed.

In any case I am hopefully looking forward to the discussion returning to JD’s bags. Mine for example is getting a nice Valentines week outing. Pics shortly.

In my anticipation for a Saint-Clair in the near future, I made a paper model based on the measurements found on the JD website. I've tried the Saint-Clair messenger when I was in the boutique last Dec 2022, but silly me did not take a picture and of course I wasn't able to check if it fits my stuff, either, so I wanted to check if it does.

Powerbank, lactase pills, extra pillbox for vitamins, spare plastic bags, lip balm, AirPods. Plenty of room to fit more things. It's not even half full yet. Maybe I need to learn to put my phone and wallet in my bag.

It will be a great bag to have when I visit Japan because on top of these things, I'm also going to carry a pocket wifi, which is a bit bulky.

Brilliant, crafty, and well done!

Are you planning to use an insert?

Nice job with the mock-up !
Did you take the internal measurements of the bag when you made the model? Because there will the thicknesses of leather to account for.
But I believe its more roomy than it looks on the outside, so you should have enough space for all the things you listed.

Correct. Even with the leather thickness I think the interior space will be more than enough for my needs.

After WWII, Dior and later Chanel owed their businesses to the US market. With online these days, it's not unusual, same with the whole MIJ Fude (hand bundled brushes) phenomena. In fact, if JD are selling 20% domestically, that's still a well received brand in France, the US has a much bigger market even in numbers alone (Fr = approx 68M v US 332M )

The difference with Dior and Chanel is that JD had no physical presence in US. These 60% mean that Joseph Duclos is pretty much an international e-commerce startup and that Americans were massively targeted by their marketing campaigns on socials. That´s neither good nor bad, just a calculated business strategy JD chose.

Believe me I tried to ignore this thread. How else do you think I know this doesn´t work?
Looks like I´m not supposed to ignore it.

This thread is a paid promotion regardless of who created it and why, TPF is very transparent about this fact. How is this even debatable? And why is marketing strategy a "nefarious plot"?

This is exactly what I am looking forward actually. Maybe someone who bought the bag can explain what qualities make a machine sewn Diane from a startup brand 3 times as expensive as a machine sewn Celine 16 mini from a reputable heritage lux brand?
If someone has both bags, a comparison in pictures would be perfect. Because I honestly don´t know why.

I don't own a JD bag but I'm interested in learning more and so I follow this thread. You've made it abundantly clear that you dislike the brand and think there's some nefarious plotting, hoodwinking, rug pulling, shenanigans, and misinformation or basic marketing strategy (with which you seem to disagree), about the brand (and it's relationship with tPF) going on. I feel you've made your point clear, and your views seem to be strongly held. I'm not sure that anything anyone could say would convince you of the merits of JD and it's offerings....

I'm assuming that if you have a reasonably compact wallet or a few calvi/bastia type SLGs they would fit just fine, and that the back slip pocket won't fit a phone without stretching it a phone would have to be hand-held or be substituted for the battery pack.
Will you wear this as a crossbody or on your shoulder, and what do you think about that wide, flat strap; do you think it will be comfortable over a day's wearing? I didn't make it to the boutique on my recent trip so I'm still assessing and looking for info!

Then I haven´t made myself clear. Because I even admit the quality is good. Just not as good as many here believe and certainly not for that price tag.
But instead of constructive arguments about what justifies the value of the bags, I get such replies about my person instead. Could we please switch to discussing the bags and the brand and not myself?

I guess I’m wondering what is the value of talking about if something is overpriced or not? Value of bags is extremely subjective, even if you consider and want to dissect the materials used and labor involved. You may think a bag overpriced, but someone else may think it’s underpriced. Someone else may not even care at all and just accept whatever number is stated for the bag.

You can talk about the price being too high for your tastes, but the fact of the matter is that your opinion doesn’t do much other than control whether or not you buy something from that business. It’s a bit of a moot point in terms of discussion, especially if there’s enough people out there who think the price is not an issue. Only time will tell if it’s sustainable, right?

Or maybe I’m just salty about the housing market and realizing everything is out of my financial control anyway lol
