Yes. I’ve noticed several EU brands are more popular outside of the EU. Moynat found popularity in Asia a few years ago and now their happy place is the Middle East.
The French aren’t into H either. They like their no name, mom and pop brands. I don’t blame them. When in the EU and UK, I take public transportation like many of the locals. Lux bags and subways tend not to mix well.
Most people who buy lux brands in the EU are not EU citizens.![]()
I think most of the lux brands in Europe are definitely bought by EU citizens. Even in the extreme case of Paris visited by 44M tourists per year, 25M are JUST French from other regions, Europeans combined are almost 90%. In other cities even more so. Probably Americans and Asians do spend more on average, but not to such extremes.
It´s just the intentional strategy of the brand, quite obvious they never even bothered to attract French. JD ads are in English. 60% of customers being American and all that without any physical presence in US, it just shows how effective those paid promotions are (this thread being one them, once again).
Another interesting point, JD is not calling themselves a heritage brand, so people who compare JD to Moynat and other revival brands should note how the owner puts it: "our very young — or very old — start-up".
Also this sentence is amusing, since so many were duped by 1754 ads (including me at first
