It’s time to decide. I guess this means the pricey bags on my wishlist take precedence. The accumulative price increase on those bags could fund a lesser price bag on my list.

I’m scared. I’ve been playing it purse-safe for a few years. I’m finally spending some serious $$$$$ on something I’ve been eyeing for over a year. It’s like meeting someone that you’ve put on a pedestal, for the first time. You hope they meet your (reasonable) expectations.

I wasn't in store - only been in contact with them remotely. I ordered the Diane messenger in Chataigner a few weeks ago and had also been in touch with JD about the costs of a custom bag. I passed on the custom bag for now as I want to wait to see how much I like the Diane messenger in Chataigner, and JD let me know about the upcoming price increase.

I will ask if there are any new options in the pipeline or anticipated price increase. @allanrvj @crocodilemonkey

I am so excited for you! I do hope you like it - I love mine. That said, I own several bags - different colors, shapes and for different moments (dinner, walking pups, work, shopping, etc). I think it is hard to have one bag that meets all needs. However, every bag brings me joy and subtly pulls together my outfits and needs. What I love about my L20 is that it serves as a pop of color, total security when walking around and makes me feel polished no matter what I am wearing. Pls enjoy yours - it is extremely sturdy.

That approach and rough pricing structure is similar to how Moynat did custom orders when Ramesh was there.

It made sense to me - if a client wants a configuration that is not a production item, they are typically willing to pay (and wait) for it. And, the upcharge is a built-in hedge against being overloaded with "one-off" pieces designed by clients rather than the maison.

You hit the nail on the head with this explanation!
personally, I think 30% surcharge for a custom colour & HW is a great deal, knowing that for a small house like JD the artisans will literally be cutting each piece individually by hand when it is a special order. A larger house like Hermes will have the volumes to do a small run of colour specific orders. Or if they do make your SO as a separate item they will charge 2 or 3 times the original price, not +30%. I have gone that route with H when I was younger and more impressionable so yes the JD offer on specific colours and HW is very reasonable.
and like @bagnut1 said, its also helpful to weed out those clients who only want SO and end up clogging JD production lines so that the flow of regular off the shelf bags is held up.

Thank you for the heads up! I’ll definitely ask about the PI. My appointment was rescheduled to Monday the 15th. The lovely SA sent me a few size comparison photos in the meantime.

I‘m leaning strongly towards your same bag - the Diane Messenger in Chestnut. I was hoping to have more time to think, but I guess I’ll have to make a decision! A 5-10% increase would add approx $250-$500 to the Diane Messenger. This would bump the total (with taxes & duties) from $5891 to over $6k. Even though it’s “only” a few hundred dollars increase, there’s something about hitting that $6k threshold!

Hi All,

It's been a very long while since I've got on Tpf

I have got my St Clair Mini Clutch in March. Due to some issue with the clasp, I needed to send it back to fix and it was returned around 2 weeks after. Since then, I have been using the bag quite often so just to share hows the condition for half a year usage.

I don't baby the bag, the most used up part is where I grap the flap and leave quite some marks on there. Other than that I think the bag is holding up very well.View attachment 5903881View attachment 5903882View attachment 5903883

And yet another story about a defected bag sent back to JD for immediate repair...
Thank you so much for sharing the story and the pictures! This is exactly the model and color I almost ordered online until finding out more about the brand. Very glad I didn´t. I like its simple minimalist design and a big plus that this model is saddle stitched, but are people seriously comparing these loose messy stitches to Hermes?

Hello all! Reporting back!

The SA would not confirm certain details about forthcoming products, but here’s an idea of what we can look forward to:
- confirmed price increase for January 31, no specific prices can be shared yet but they will be going up
- new bags will be coming in March/April
- there will be 2 new sizes of the Diane: 1 size smaller than the Diane L20, and 1 size larger than the Diane L26 (she did not share exact dimensions of new sizes)
- there will be new leathers and colors, but she could not confirm which new colors/leathers are coming for which bags. All of the new colors and leathers will be at the new increased prices.

The virtual appointment was very lovely and the SA took plenty of time to show all the options available. I’m now debating between the Diane Messenger in Ardoise (heritage leather) or Occitan Blue (tempo leather), OR a special order of black leather (exact leather tbd) with rose gold hardware. Decisions, decisions!
