I think one of JD's problems is lack of bags available to purchase in general. I understand that by being mostly handmade and of superlative quality it is difficult to have more ready made stock without more craftspeople to make them, and also it helps their cash flow to have orders in advance as well. Because it is such a newer luxury brand, it does take a rather large leap of faith to just pre-order.Agreed but like what I said to another dear member, how can they grow their reputation if they are not selling enough bags to keep them afloat? I see their partnership with Farfetch as just a way to funnel more customers into the brand.
When I look at this thread, the purchases revealed seem very few and far between. And when I look at their tagged page on instagram, plus anything related to JD on TikTok, all I see are mostly people trying on bags at the store, or events held at the store. There are very few JD pics and videos "in the wild", so to speak. They had two trunk shows in the US and all I saw from that was one video from the Carlyle hotel.
So I welcome this partnership, because they're on their third (fourth?) year and personally I think the brand's momentum is not where I expect it to be, considering the beauty and quality of the bags.
(I'm also glad for their €7M funding. That should help with another store, preferably in Asia)
It really helped me to visit their boutique in Paris to see the quality in person.
However, I couldn't make up my mind while there and now I'm just on the fence about buying one of their bags... because I'm not keen on what they have in stock right now and am not ready to pre-order. At least if I ordered something that they already had in stock I could return if I did not like it enough to keep it. BTW, I'm US based.
