Agreed but like what I said to another dear member, how can they grow their reputation if they are not selling enough bags to keep them afloat? I see their partnership with Farfetch as just a way to funnel more customers into the brand.

When I look at this thread, the purchases revealed seem very few and far between. And when I look at their tagged page on instagram, plus anything related to JD on TikTok, all I see are mostly people trying on bags at the store, or events held at the store. There are very few JD pics and videos "in the wild", so to speak. They had two trunk shows in the US and all I saw from that was one video from the Carlyle hotel.

So I welcome this partnership, because they're on their third (fourth?) year and personally I think the brand's momentum is not where I expect it to be, considering the beauty and quality of the bags.

(I'm also glad for their €7M funding. That should help with another store, preferably in Asia)
I think one of JD's problems is lack of bags available to purchase in general. I understand that by being mostly handmade and of superlative quality it is difficult to have more ready made stock without more craftspeople to make them, and also it helps their cash flow to have orders in advance as well. Because it is such a newer luxury brand, it does take a rather large leap of faith to just pre-order.
It really helped me to visit their boutique in Paris to see the quality in person.
However, I couldn't make up my mind while there and now I'm just on the fence about buying one of their bags... because I'm not keen on what they have in stock right now and am not ready to pre-order. At least if I ordered something that they already had in stock I could return if I did not like it enough to keep it. BTW, I'm US based.

It is also highly likely that their primary client is not posting fashion on social media. I am not active on social, I don't flaunt what I buy nor feel the need to post it online.
My FF concierge has been ordering JD bags for private clients, both regular stock bags and special order; he says that it is due to this popularity that FF is expanding the offerings with JD

I have a few Hermes, Chanel, Dior and Loro Piana bags. I am in the process of selling my Chanels and LPs. I love Dior RTW, but buy their bags too as I like my SA a lot. (He also helped me pick my green JD bag). The reason why I bought JD (and will buy more) is that it is truly quality craftsmanship and leather. Without the social baggage of H and C.

Yes - it is expensive. But their overhead is minimal compared to above mentioned brands. So the cost is truly bag production- and less marketing or real estate. I do think their exit will most likely be via an acquisition-but I find their Diane and St Clair to be sturdy works of art.

What I like about Joseph Duclos is the quality and that I feel comfortable carrying the bag anywhere.

Sometimes I feel self conscious carrying a Birkin or a Kelly because of the stares I get (sometimes comments).

Back in the day not a lot of people recognized them and you could travel everywhere with them…but now everyone does, and know they are expensive etc. I still wear them but I have to think where I’m going etc. With JD I feel very comfortable and I don’t have to think about it. I also like Moynat because not a lot of people recognize the bags either.

Hello! On the advice of YouTuber Anesu and this thread, I emailed JD to inquire about upcoming trunk shows, specifically in the U.S. I was told that they are planning more shows for 2024 but no dates are set at this time.

In the meantime, I have a virtual appt scheduled for Jan 12. I requested to see all Diane models including Diane Messenger for a size comparison. I also expressed interest in learning more about the various leather options. (I’m really unsure about what type of leather I would prefer without seeing them in person.) I’m also planning to ask about preorders / ordering process. Happy to ask other questions on behalf of this group and will report back here after my appointment.

If you are in NYC, I believe their US press relationship team (?) may have a few bags in their offices. This is for show only, and not for purchase. (This is the team that organized the trunk show for JD at the Carlyle - so not sure what they are called.)

I’m bummed. This is from a photoshoot of a Fontélie prototype. 😭
Two positives — (1) we have the Fontélie, and (2) JD has some new leather colors coming soon.
I'm highly annoyed by this photo because before I bought my Fontelie, I specifically asked if they had any plans to release it in a blue color. If so, I wanted to wait to purchase until that release. They told me no.

I wish they had a boutique in NYC. I need to know how heavy a bag is and to see the capacity inside. I can’t really tell from the video clips that barely show the interior. Also, why are taxes and duties 1k?

Hi! I would reach out to them and ask if their PR NYC firm still has some of the bags for viewing. It would be worth the visit.

I do have the L20 - happy to show you if you ever want to meet up at Dior Soho or BG.

I had similar concerns. I had a bag in my shopping basket on their website because I wanted to see how much taxes/duties were. I entered my email and mailing address to get to that stage. The extra fees were too much for me to stomach, so I never went through with it. But on the plus side, a day or so later, a member of the JD staff reached out by email to ask if I had any questions about the bag. They offered to send pictures or videos, or even arrange a zoom meeting to review their collection.
Great customer service. I didn't bother to take them up on their offer, as I really need to see it in person.
