New member here! Just wanted to report that I took the plunge and purchased a Diane messenger bag in Châtaigner online two days ago. Was a bit trepidatious about the whole purchase since I'm essentially buying the bag without having seen it in person, but the photos and feedback here helped seal the deal for me!

For the record, this is my first luxury bag purchase. I wanted something extremely high-quality, of French or Italian origin, with a vegetable tanned leather that would patina over time. When I started out, I really liked the Celine 16 in black, Moynat Gabrielle in black or cannelle, and the Hermes Constance in brown. Then I came across the Diane and saw the messenger bag version and couldn't stop thinking about it - it was everything I liked about those other bags (design, unique clasp, quality leather) wrapped up in one bag.

Will update with the whole process/pictures once I receive it!

You may as well start at the top model of an excellent brand ;)

And welcome to tPF!

Joseph Duclos’ return policy on non-customized and unaltered bags is excellent. After I bought a Fontélie, I purchased a second bag that didn’t woo me in person. I sent it back to them without issue and got a refund within the week.
Your view of the company tells me you shouldn’t purchase from them at this time. If you feel they are snowing people, the trust is not there. Hopefully, in time, JD will prove themself trustworthy in your eyes and you can purchase without concerns.:drinks:
You're right. I would like to see more of a track record. Many companies come and go.

I bought the L20 in green. It was a very tough choice between the green and red bag. Decided green was more low key for NYC - and I don’t have any green bags. Obssessed!!! These bags are sexy!! Strong and feminine at the same time. Definitely not the last JD bag.

I had seen the JD online last spring. Saw them in person when they showed at the Carlyle Hotel in October. Loved the Diane messenger (slightly bigger than my Bolide 27) but decided to wait a bit. Then decided that I wanted the L20 instead for my first JD bag. I realized I appreciated having a top handle option on my crossbody bags. A friend was in Paris over December and picked the bag up for me. Throughout the months, conversed with both an SA (Alex) and the store manager (Latifah). They were absolutely patient and lovely. Many many Whatsapp messages were exchanged between Oct and December. Extremely responsive and so kind!! So I highly recommend JD for beauty, quality and service!!

FWIW they are not going anywhere. They have recently partnered with Farfetch to provide bespoke bags to private clients. I am a private client and got video clips and pictures of my Concierge's training with the Duclos reps at the Paris location. Where you used to only be able to order custom bags from JD direct now private clients can order through their concierge and Farfetch which gives clients all the perks plus perhaps more "peace of mind" of the process.

It appears Farfetch has gone private. Coupang, the Amazon of S. Korea, is attempting to acquire the company.
I’m curious about JD’s possible retail space (?) planned in Japan?

What is a private client? Does this mean you only work with Farfetch concierges for your custom bag needs? What are the perks? Do they include updates on the creation of your custom bags?👜🙂

I'm curious too about how one becomes a private client. Looking at the Farfetch website does not give any information about either JD or being a private client, best I could tell...

I saw that, too. Maybe it’s through private conversations with a JD rep.
Personally, I was never a huge fan of Farfetch and I’m a little disappointed the “Amazon of S.Korea” is reportedly buying the company. I fear creating a tier-system for smaller and bespoke companies (through Farfetch) will lessen the attention all customers deserve — the wealthy to the person who saved all year for a bag. I’m afraid this kind of tier system might grow into what we’ve seen happen to Chanel boutiques and the snobbery/offerings at H.
For some reason, though it’s not very profitable, I love stand-alone small ateliers, like JD, with craftsmanship that rivals the best of the big brands. There’s something a little special about those bags. Big profits don’t happen overnight (unless a company comes out with a new It Bag). Immediate financial gratification leads so many to big money companies.
