For anyone who's been following the saga of my Fontelie, I'm pleased to report that the repaired bag arrived home yesterday and looks good as new. I'm pleased with the service I received - it certainly was much faster than Hermes would have been. Plus, they sent me one of their perfumes as a gift/recompense for the trouble, which was a nice gesture. Interestingly, the repaired bag arrived in a lovely gift box. When I originally purchased it, it didn't come in a box, just a dustbag. Now I'm wondering if it was on oversight that they originally shipped it to me without the box. But regardless, I have a box now, lol.
I’m happy for you!
Wear it in good health!
P.S.: I think bag gift boxes are given upon request.

From what I know (having studied the St Clair line as a fan), all the St Clair bags are completely hand stitched, using a very specific technique (angle stitch) that Ramesh worked years to revive. So yes, its bound to be different visually from the Diane, which is mostly machine stitched.
Also, the St Clair pochette is cut from a single piece of leather & moulded into shape, which is quite cool, I feel.
How did you determine that the Diane bags are not hand stitched?

How did you determine that the Diane bags are not hand stitched?
By asking one of the SA’s if it’s entirely saddle stitched. I asked, and was told that it is not… except for a couple of stitches. I was told that the Saint Clair is all saddle stitched. You can email them, but remember not to ask for hand stitched, ask for saddle stitch instead. I still think the Diane is beautifully made, Birkins and Kellys are not completely saddle stitched either.

I asked the staff at the Joseph Duclos store and was told that the Diane is machine stitched except for handles and a couple of other areas. A friend who does some leatherwork confirmed that the Diane is very well made, but not entirely hand made. I have nothing against machine stitching, its the quality of the make thats important, and the fact that each bag is made by individual artisans not on industrial scale. ( I do have a Diane which I like very much).
The Saint Clair to me is unusual because it is 100% hand stitched and uses different techniques - angle stitch, saddle stitch, and moulding of the leather.

I have a question for Diane L20/26 owners. While wearing your bag crossbody, is the top handle cumbersome when opening the flap? I recently tried on a Moynat Gabrielle PM and found it awkward to open because the top handle bumped up against me. I don’t have that issue with the Fontélie because of the top handle placement. Thank you for any experiences you can provide.:flowers:

I wear the Diane cross body and the top handle doesn't bother me at all. The strap is adjustable so you can make it longer so that it doesn’t sit so close to your waist. But who knows, maybe other people are bothered by it, I find it comfortable to wear and to open and close it.

I visited JD in Paris last week and it was fabulous, just as I suspected it would be. The leathers are unbelievable. I have never seen bags that are so well made and so beautiful. My friend who joined me was blown away too. The showroom is gorgeous, though not my taste, but it works as it really showcases the bags. The staff working that day were just lovely and really great at showing me tons of items and letting me take pictures. I didn't end of buying anything because I really want a double handle open top bag, so I am going to wait and hope new bags come out in the next year that will fit me a little better. I am attaching some pictures below.

Thanks for the pictures. I zoomed in on the alligator Saint-Clairs to see the price, only to see a faint outline of what appears to be "Prix sur demande" lol

What made you decide against the Lectoure tote, which is a double handle open top bag?

The tote was too big for me. It's a beauty, for sure, but it is just too large as I am petite. And the bags are not cheap, so I felt I needed to be very selective in my purchase decision. I didn't want to buy just because I was there if I wasn't feeling it. That all said, now I know the product first-hand and when a new bag comes along that fits my needs, I'll jump on it.

I don't know much about this brand but thought people might like to see the window display in Paris.
Oh...my....god!!! Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing - really great to see other colors than what's available on the website!

Does anyone know - when you buy a bag online, does it charge your credit/debit card right away, or do they wait to charge it upon shipping? I use an airline-associated credit card will and get an airline status boost if I spend $5k before the end of 2023. I really want a Diane bag and I really want my airline status at a certain level, so if they charge my card right away, it will kill two birds with one stone....
