True, but I guess I'm not that surprised. From my communication with someone from JD it sounded like that the black hardware is quite limited (and expensive to produce) and we know they wanted to use it solely for exotics.
It makes sense. at double the price, it seems logical to go all the way and ask for exotic skin since its being custom made anyway.

I did see JD bags in person, yes. Well made and fully hand stitched, which is a huge plus. However, I wouldn´t say they are in the same league as the mentioned brands and the prices are way too unreasonable, especially given the emptiness of the heritage, like it was already mentioned here by others. You can literally get bespoke bags from the top artisans made out of top leathers, obviously in better quality for the same or only slightly higher prices.

Yes, I know this youtuber. After she posted that interview at Joseph Duclos all my doubts she´s not doing the promotion for free were gone. Her portrayal of the brand (appeared out of nowhere) is so over the top positive and not a single "shady" aspect about it is mentioned, although she would normally deride any other brand for being creative about the heritage or too active on IG or not transparent about the sourcing or for leathers not being LWG certified etc... Also I know she deletes critical comments about Joseph Duclos under her videos. Don´t ask me how... I unsubscribed, there were also other things I found ridiculous in her "recommendations".
I was in Paris in October and visited the boutique. I purchased the Diane bag and I find the quality absolutely fabulous, and on par with Hermes (a brand I love as well). The leather quality, craftsmanship and aesthetic are right up my alley. I was interested in buying JD but not committed when I went to the boutique. But once I saw the bags, especially the Diane, touched them and felt the quality, I was sold. Hermes remains my favorite brand, but I am a big fan of JD. I took my Diane out last night in Los Angeles and got a compliments on how gorgeous the bag is and wanting to know what brand it was. Also, I think JD is well respected because right after I purchased my bag, I went to a couple of other luxury stores in Paris ( Moynat and Messika) and of course had my JD shopping bag with me. And at each store, the S.A. I worked with commented on JD being a niche luxury brand with excellent quality. At Moynat, the SA wanted to know how I even heard about it. Needless to say, I am a fan. Love the quality and can't wait to return to purchase something else next time I am in Paris. The service was also wonderful. It truly felt like a luxury experience - certainly better than the service I got at Hermes.

I’m so glad you mentioned the brand recognition by other brands, because I had a similar experience in Delvaux. The SA noted that I liked niche brands, and that JD was going to be a competitor. He said they weren’t quite there yet, but the competition was fast approaching.

Just sharing some eye candy here from The Bag Hag’s stories. It features those St Clair bags with alligator nubuck that I’m in love with :hbeat:
I cant see the price clearly, pretty sure the label says “price on request” and in any case this requires planning & saving on my part. But yes, its a special bag and I have a special event coming up in 2024 so… Maybe…

Hi All,

It's been a very long while since I've got on Tpf

I have got my St Clair Mini Clutch in March. Due to some issue with the clasp, I needed to send it back to fix and it was returned around 2 weeks after. Since then, I have been using the bag quite often so just to share hows the condition for half a year usage.

I don't baby the bag, the most used up part is where I grap the flap and leave quite some marks on there. Other than that I think the bag is holding up very well.20231201_202011.jpg20231201_202004.jpg20231201_202045.jpg

So just a little more about the bag:

Things inside: I am a small bag girl, so it could fit everything I need: A card holder, a bastia, pack of tissue, lip balm and hand sanitizer (can squeeze my phone in but will be tight).

Strap: I used it as crossbody and with the shortest setting is sitting just above my hip (163cm), I think is good. Only thing may need to pay attention is that the strap will be sticking out at the bottom of the bag, so after a while of usage, it is curving in. Also due to sticking out, I think it make the bag style not that "clean" but if you are on taller side, this will not affect you, since this only happen to the shortest setting.

Clasp: The clasp is easy to open and close so it was very easy to get things out with one hand. But this also mean I am harsh to it since I will not be looking at the bag when I get things in and out, I just slide the things in and out along the bag body hence left a lot of scratches on the area under the flap.

Shape: I did had some concern with how the shape will be holding up, since it is being molded into shape, which I think it may get deformed very easily after a while of use. However, so far nothing has happend (but the humid weather has yet to come). I am not a clutch girl but the feeling of grabbing the bag is good, since the bottom is curved.

Overall I am satisfy with the quality and design of the bag, but it may be pricey given the brand is new. Especially I just looked up at the latest price which has gone up by 20%.

Thank you. I think there have been quite a few people on this thread asking what fits inside the SC mini clutch.

Thank you!
Very helpful.
Is yours the Marronnier color?
Yes it is.

It is brown with reddish colour. Just a picture to compare with Ebene Barenia.

Thank you. I think there have been quite a few people on this thread asking what fits inside the SC mini clutch.
Sorry took me so long to give a review, needed to control myself on the internet since was busy and tpf always got me addicted, so need to cut it off for a while.

Let me get out a few other small bags and do few comparison this weekend.

Thanks for the detailed pictures and honest review. Appears to have been built with wider spacing pricking irons compared with the Diane. Or maybe it's just greater thread thickness. Either way, it's a neat look, for sure. Hoping to get a chance to see in person sometime.
From what I know (having studied the St Clair line as a fan), all the St Clair bags are completely hand stitched, using a very specific technique (angle stitch) that Ramesh worked years to revive. So yes, its bound to be different visually from the Diane, which is mostly machine stitched.
Also, the St Clair pochette is cut from a single piece of leather & moulded into shape, which is quite cool, I feel.

For anyone who's been following the saga of my Fontelie, I'm pleased to report that the repaired bag arrived home yesterday and looks good as new. I'm pleased with the service I received - it certainly was much faster than Hermes would have been. Plus, they sent me one of their perfumes as a gift/recompense for the trouble, which was a nice gesture. Interestingly, the repaired bag arrived in a lovely gift box. When I originally purchased it, it didn't come in a box, just a dustbag. Now I'm wondering if it was on oversight that they originally shipped it to me without the box. But regardless, I have a box now, lol.

Hi,

Comparison with Celine Classic Small, this is the closest bag I have in similar shape and size. For H bag, I only have a Halzan similar in size but as the shape is so different, so may not be the best.

Compartments:
SC only has two slim sleeves, one inside and one outside. I found the external one is useful to put my travel pass, internal one not much of a use, that could fit ~2 cards. I always bring my card holder, so I have only used it for some receipt.
CB has 3 compartments which I can organize my things better. Although with little that I carry, having compartments seems not necessary but to me is different. The bag is small, so everthing have their own space. If there is no compartments, when I take one thing out, others will roll out of its place, when I need to put the item back in, that means I may need to re-organize my bag. So CB is better in a way that it is divided in 3 sections.

Size and Capacity: Size wise, CB is taller and deeper, but I could only fit an extra foundation in and not much else. As for the width, CB and SC looks similar, but with the structure, CB could not fit a phone(not counting flip phone) while SC can.

Weight: SC is lighter since it used fewer leather parts.

Strap: SC can be used as crossbody or long shoulder bag. CB only long or short shoulder bag. Personally I think wearing crossbody or long shoulder bag will leave more marks to your bag since the bag get bang against other people or things more often. While short shoulder bag, it will be protected by your arm. So my CB is actually in better shape than my SC although I had the CB for more than 6Y while the SC only for 6M.
Comfortability, the SC's strap is definitely more comfortable since it doesnt have the metal clasp. But I think CB design wise on the change in length is better than SC, since SC is only using a buckle which is nothing special.

So just a little thought on them, hope is useful for anyone considering the SC clutch.

Really? I would guess the Diane is handstitched from the pictures online. But I agree the vibe of both lines is very different, for a variety of reasons.

That's very cool. Reminds me of the original Delvaux Cool Box which did the same...until they changed the base into a separate piece (booo!).
