Yes the boutique is amazing, and seeing (and smelling!) the bags in person is essential to understanding what they are about.
So very true. I wasn't a JD fan until I went to their boutique and saw and held the bags in person. The corner saddle stitch technique used for the Saint-Clair impressed me the most. Hermès doesn't do that with any of their bags, as far as I know.

I’ve kept quiet until now, but I need to know what you “know” about Anesu “not doing the promotion for free”? What compensation has she received?
And what “shady” aspects should she have mentioned? “Shady” is a loaded term. Do you mean the 1754 inspiration date? Is there more factually substantiated “shade”?
And their address? They chose it because it’s 54? It “echoes” the year. Yes. But there are other reasons including the street’s history and neighboring shops.
By the way, 1754 is a nod to leather — the tanning — not bag-making. Joseph Duclos wasn’t a bag maker.
I thought the Diane reminded me of a Celine until I understood the extra strip of leather reinforced the flap and hardware placement. And it helps to keep the curved shape. Many brands reinforce their flaps. JD didn’t copy Celine.
I thought the bags were pricey — too pricey for a new brand. I don’t think that anymore. They’re hand-made. They’re bespoke (for those who are willing to wait). Even Peter Nitz occasionally has pre-made bags available on his site.
As for larger brands, like H—they’ve had their problems. Do you remember the stinky leather fiasco? Chipped Kelly hardware (the tip of the little knob turn-lock)?

As for your new posts — Delvaux is nice, but has been sold, resold, and sold again. They’re no longer a boutique brand. “And Chanel …” in the words of my 20-year-old daughter, “is Forever 21 with a pricetag.”

That’s it. I’ve written all I need to convey. Thank you for reading.

Completely bespoke is available.
Very well said and of course nothing but facts.

They don't have the same feel. I do see people taking leather sourcing aspect quite lightly, but I am a perfectionist and the leathers of my bags must also be flawless.
Saddle-stitching heavyweights and especially Hermes have first dibs on the best leathers in the world, they built and developed relations with top tanneries for decades, sometimes even centuries. And leathers do have technologies behind them which are kept secret and subject to intellectual property laws. So no, any tannery cannot simply produce a Barenia dupe and claim it's the same leather.
Another thing which these brands built for decades and centuries is the expertise in ultra high-end leather making, this also includes training craftsmen and perfecting their skills. Yes, in this thread there were suggestions that Joseph Duclos uses some Hermes- and Moynat-trained craftsmen. Hearsay or not, but even if true, by what magic they can make better quality bags at Joseph Duclos than literally 100% of Hermes- and Moynat-trained staff working for these brands as this YouTuber claims?
This is funny. My barenia Birkin and heritage Diane are identical in terms of leather quality and craftsmanship:doh:

It’s painfully obvious you are on a JD smear campaign, which is bizarre but do you. I hope someone is paying you well and this isn’t for fun.. sending some positivity your way.

Thank you so much for asking! I advise you to check what Joseph Duclos writes about themselves, it will answer many questions.

How can we know who is crafting their bags?
Joseph Duclos specifically mentions on their website they looked for people after "Compagnons de Devoir" apprenticeship. Someone also posted rumors about former Hermes and Moynat artisans, please note I am not "claiming" that.

How can we know they are not using Barenia or Novonappa (both trademarks of LWG certified Tanneries Haas)?
Again, the website has only one mention on non-exotic leathers - that JD commits to REACH.
Do you know what REACH is?
It´s a European law banning toxic chemicals in products and it´s mandatory for everyone in the EU.
So the only proud thing to say about the leathers is that they don´t break the law.:giggle:

I don´t really expect people to acknowledge they fell for promoted content on social media. Please continue to believe in the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of Joseph Duclos bags which is so superior to Hermes and anyone else on the planet, that a lady on Youtube cannot get tired to say so.
What are you even rambling on about now.. you’re really grasping at straws and making no sense. Joseph Duclos didn’t start their Instagram adverts until recently - long after the majority of us had made our first JD purchase. What difference does it make? The fact is JD offers top quality and wonderful craftsmanship - if it doesn’t please you just move along because nobody wants to listen to this.

And this poor lady on YouTube, at this point you are slandering her with zero proof to back up your accusations. Sounds familiar. I really hope she isn’t a forum member and has to read your lies about her.

Very interesting perspective. My only follow-up is what, in your opinion, makes JD not in the same league as the other brands we mentioned (putting aside the heritage aspect).

On the YouTuber, that is news to me. I had no idea, interesting if true.
You make valid points. Do you happen to have a video I can watch to educate myself further?

Such strong opinions on this thread lol. TY for defending both sides of the debate. #popcorn

Im just looking forward to visit their boutique and explore their products with my own eyes, hands and nose.
Sorry if you already stated this, but are you planning to visit the store any time soon? If so, I wonder if you could share photos of the St Clair with exotic skin in the flap. I’m curious how the soft flap feels in croco, is it as drapy as the nubuck in the regular collection ?

Tiny bit of correction: it’s alligator nubuck, not croc :flowers:
There's a video I posted on page 52 where the store manager is showing the grey Saint-Clair with alligator. Very short but it looks drapey when she opened the bag.

I'll be at the store in mid December. Do you want me to take any pictures for you? Happy to do so.

Thanks, @allanrvj ! Somehow I missed your post with the clip, and yes it does look drapey. Seriously tempting !!
And the shot of the artisan hand stitching the St Clair bag is amazing too.
@ParisBound, if you can get some nice photos that would be great, but please dont feel obliged. 🙏🙏

I confirmed I can customize the saint clair pouch with matte black hardware but it has an added additional cost, beyond the 20% for customization. I’m debating whether its worth it!
my reasoning would be: it's worth it because it's made exactly how I want it to be. in the future there may be others like this that look like mine, but I had mine first and it was made for me.
