If what @YGR says about shipping agents not paying state tax is true, then potentially every US person who bought remotely is at risk. This could be a TON of money that JD kept for themselves and would be at risk if they ended up paying @YGR for what she paid them in good faith. Can you imagine what would happen if every US customer who ordered online was in the same situation?
No wonder JD isn’t being cooperative. Though it will kill their online business model for US customers if this info got out…

Oh it’ll never get out, says every foolish CEO ever in the internet era 😂

ETA: my comment was meant to be a general one and not specific to the readers of this thread, although IMO @YGR would be well within the zone of reasonableness to amplify the current state of affairs. :flowers:

To clarify: I personally don't think that JD 'kept' sales state taxes paid by the customers... Probably JD remitted all taxes, custom duties to DHL so DHL can pay it accordingly.... yet JD had no idea (just my opinion) that DHL can not be used as a paying agent... $$ are somewhere in the black hole
this is just my educated guess (or uneducated)
JD total non-cooperation is hard to explain or understand

Even if JD expected the shipping agents to pay the state tax and this did not happen, then this is an issue between JD and the shipping agent. Not the buyer. I still think this would explain why JD isn’t cooperating with @YGR. It’s too much money for them to potentially lose.

it is clear for me that at this point that JD is not totally aware of US business laws and related practices... based on my painful communication with them, they truly believed that after they can find DHL receipts from my shipment (July 2023) they will be able to proof that my CA State Sales taxes are paid....
here we are: 2023 DHL receipts are found and they proved nothing, problem remains open since March...
wishes circle it is

thank you.... amplifying crossed my mind ...but how.... JD Instagram and FB page is controlled by JD, therefore all unpleasant comments could be erased or hidden
i don't have contact information of the superior person in charge
i feel that i have no leverage here.... if they don't want to cooperate (as they are not) there is nothing much i can do
i keep emailing them but they ignore it
i call them but they handed up
The only thing i can do is pay State sales tax back to the State (as i should) to clear my name

@Vlad and @Megs -

All of the recent posts on this thread about @YGR 's very valid customer service issues are really disturbing. I am obviously a fan of the house and can't help but think that there is a serious disconnect here between the "French way" of doing things (JD is not part of a conglomerate) and what's being discussed here, which I understood would be a supportive platform for the JD brand.

Any insight into other avenues for help solving the issues? Or a reach out to Latifa or whoever is ultimately in charge?

(And NFN, IME August is absolutely the _worst_ time for getting anyone to do anything in France - but the black eye is not going to go away.)

I’m not on Linked In, but I took a screenshot of some of the information available to non-members; perhaps one of the 14 employees not including those who’ve already proven useless could help you sort this out. HTH :flowers:

Did you purchase online with a credit card? If so, have you considered disputing $515 charge with your credit card? Nothing focuses the mind of vendors and snaps them into action quite like a charge back. The floodgates of documents and proof will open. That's the only way they can counter your charge back dispute. You will either get your credit back, or you'll have evidence to present to the state of CA.

thank you! I tried that too. Amex said that they only dispute charges which are less than 60 days old. This transaction is from July 2023. I escalated it with Amex and they said that these are their new rules and there is nothing can be done.
1st time I heard from state of CA (via official hard copy letter mailed to my address) was March 2024. I immediately informed JD and they said not to worry about it because all sales taxes are already paid. and you all know the rest

Wow. Amex website says 120 days, though that still wouldn't help you. I'm so sorry.
