I think this is the same thing JD is confused about. JD keeps providing import tax information, but never paid the CA sales tax that they charged @YGR when CA requires sales tax to be paid.
JD have all copies of the State letters, State representative is copied on all emails communications.... the whole discussion is about state sales tax.... i have clarified to JD multiple times (emails and phone calls) that custom duties are outside of scope

I really don’t know how they’re so confused on this, especially when you’ve explained it to them multiple times. I’m second-hand exasperated with them from your posts.

Thank You!
yes, it's like talking to the brick wall.... and one would think for $514.45 JD would issue a refund and deal with the issue internally.... but no, they are refusing to refund, not cooperating, and simply totally incompetent as far as business practices goes in the US....

Just spoke with the State of CA, they check their records against paperwork provided by JD today and as expected, issue is not addressed/resolved. State person even involved her supervisor in the conversation in order to be totally sure.
What i also just learned from the State just now that it is illegal for a business to use DHL, Fedex, etc... as a paying agent for the State Sales Taxes....these couriers can only be used as a paying agent to Federal Government for the custom duties.
Basically JD business in the US appears to be not all kosher from state sales tax
JD mentioned few times that they subcontract DHL to pay sales taxes yet it is illegal in the US

The fact they are dropping the ball in their own sponsored thread is kinda comical. I feel really bad for @YGR though. What a stressful situation…

It's comical, ironic, but also telling. There's been more than enough time to fix a US state sales tax situation to show this community that they are serious about their brand, can operate well in the various countries they market themselves in, and provide (basic!) customer service.

Agreed. I think many in this thread have considered JD bags, but this is completely off-putting. I was really hoping for JD’s success, but to take so much of @YGR’s time and cause such stress, their mountain to climb is that much greater.

Completely agreed. Gives this more of a "fly by night" operations feel instead of a luxury experience.

Wow, just wow. It would have been better if they spent some of the marketing/trunk show budget on hiring professionals who can guide JD through the various state tax laws and get them set up properly. I'm so sorry you're still having to deal with this when you've already paid JD for everything and it's on them to make the State of California whole.

I can only add my voice to the chorus lamenting this exceptionally poor service. I am so, so sorry you are still having to deal with what seems to be a pretty straightforward problem. It appears that Duclos is completely uninformed about their responsibilities, and completely unwilling to pursue even a modicum of education on the subject. Not a company I’d chose to do business with even if a free trip to Paris to select a bag of your choosing and a groveling public apology were proffered. And of course the taxes, and any penalties were paid by the company.

thank you! totally agree.... it would be beneficial for JD to learn and implement US business rules for US based customers.

I wonder if anyone else who ordered a bag last year from the US and had it delivered via DHL has had the same issue as @YGR with JD not paying state taxes and getting a bill for that the following year.
?????

And @Megs, do you have any ability to intervene on @YGR's behalf? It seemed as if you had some sort of connection (or ability to connect) with them, if I remember correctly!

Exactly. This is so telling about the JD brand at this point.

And to think I was close to pulling the trigger on a Sac Saint-Clair.

I feel terrible for YGR, but am thankful the story was shared. With so many options for handbags out there, why would anyone consider JD after this?

I’m catching up on this thread today and I am so disappointed to hear of your never ending ordeal @YGR ! It is completely unacceptable. I hope someone will be able to intervene on your behalf to finally get this resolved soon. We’re all rooting for you!!

Hello again!
I was just thinking.... since DHL, Fedex, etc (any couriers) can only be used as a paying agent for US customs duties and no other taxes, where did all customers' State sales taxes $$ amounts charged by JD go? JD clearly stated via email that they are using DHL for all custom duties, State Sales taxes, etc... My understanding that it's their business practice (not just my specific case).

Statement that mail couriers can not be a paying agents (except for US custom duties) was confirmed by the Sate of CA and DHL independently.. DHL told me that they are never involved in anything outside of US custom duties and State of CA said it is illegal practice for mail couriers to pay/remit state sales tax, couriers should only pay US custom duties

I'm sure i'm not the only customer who was charged with State Sales tax by JD payment system when my order was placed. I also understand that US States sales tax law are different depending on each State (different %, some States do not have State Sales Tax, some do not)...

It appears that state sales taxes paid by customers are in some black hole now because they never were remitted back to the State...

I don't think my situation is special as far as how JD handles State sales tax payment ( not payment in reality).
The 'special' was that my JD bag was flagged by the US custom in Long Beach (who knows why... could be random, could be $$ threshold) and reported to the State of CA (to insure that I pay my state sales taxes) based on my shipping address.
