I’m not sure but I think sometimes you have to pay extra charges as an importer (to the US) and it’s random, even when you paid taxes online at the store when you buy it. I have read this has happened to people on sites like Farfetch, VC etc. But… I’m not really sure. It usually happens above $2,500 and it’s not DHL or FedEx but the government that charges that fee. But who knows… it’s very confusing. Maybe someone here knows more about it.
Thank you, it is good to know. Currently i'm only trying to resolve CA state sales tax charges which i was properly charged with by JD but State is unable to validate remittance of the taxes from JD back to the State.

I went to the website because of the post above about a Diane L26 and it seems that JD has some sort of, I don't know what to call it, vetting process perhaps? when buying a Diane L26 in Heritage Leather.

Because it says it's Available, but then the button doesn't say Add to Cart. It says this:

Screenshot 2024-08-16 at 18.56.15.png

And then when you click on it there's like an onboarding process? Like what?

Screenshot 2024-08-16 at 18.55.49.png

And then you fill it up with your contact details, and then it asks you what color you're interested in, and then I reached this page:

So, uhm, maybe they have experienced a lot of returns from online purchases because the leather scratches a lot? I don't know. :confused1:

Because some bags have Add to Cart or Pre-order, like this:

Or maybe just feigning, trying to up the exclusivity factor.

What happens after you give DHL your SSN? Do you get an invoice to pay a tax fee? Or do they send you a form in the mail?
My process was interestingly different than what someone else posted - after I gave them my SSN and supporting tax documentation (I gave them a copy of my IRS e-file authorization form that had my full SSN on it), I got an email response from DHL of "Thank you for the information. Your shipment has been submitted for US Customs clearance. There is no information required. The process can take 1-3 business days to complete. Once complete, the shipment will be scheduled for delivery the next business day."

The next day I got another email from DHL saying "Please be advised that your shipment has made entry and is pending release from U.S. Customs. This process can take 2-3 business days to complete. I do apologize for the delay you have experienced and any inconvenience it has caused you. I will continue to monitor your shipment for updates and clearance processing completion and provide you with an update no later than [DATE] by 5pm PST if I see your shipment has cleared U.S. Customs or is with the courier, I will close your file with no further updates." The bag arrived 3 days later.

They also included this link as to "why do we need your tax ID?" in the email.

could be. like LV's Capucines strategy
For what it's worth, I get the same thing, and I was logged into my account. So at least it doesn't matter if you're an established customer or not.

But I guess you can snap it up on Vestaire now! Was wondering when the first Diane would make its way to one of those sites (or maybe it's not the first, it's just the first one I've seen).

Hello again.
My CA state sales tax issue still has not been resolved. As of now, JD is still unable to validate if Sales State tax (paid by the customer (myself) was remitted back to the State or not. In addition, the amount of CA state sales tax I was charged by JD was about $100 higher. Proper rate should have been 7.75% for my zip code in CA.
I'm requesting state sales tax refund from JD, so I can pay it to the State myself and clear my name. JD is ignoring my requests. I was able to get in touch via phone with one admin person, but she said that all is closed in France and all upper management are gone for holidays and there is nothing she can do to resolve it. I'm speechless ...

Wow, @YGR! I had been wondering what had transpired since you last posted about this. It's totally unacceptable!

I'm out of ideas for you other than 1) hopefully when the JD people come back from their holidays they will resolve this for you and 2) an IG post about your horiffic experiences might be worthwhile...

Yeah, August is really a bad month to deal with Paris. I learned my lesson a few years ago when I visited in the middle of August. As someone who likes good food, it was so hard to find a decent place to eat because all of the restaurants and bakeries I wanted to try were closed because of holidays. I can imagine it's the same with office people.

JD also outsources some of their admin work to other companies, and I guess with your case even if they're there, employees of JD (who are unfortunately on holidays) should have the final say when it comes to money matters.

thank you! one would think that $500 refund of my paid CA sales taxes is much better choice vs negative publicity... yet, JD is just ignoring me

thank you! unfortunately all this mess started back in March 24, it should have never gotten to this point .... i was communicating with JD all the time but they kept saying that i should not worry about it. I would guess that 6 months time frame is enough time to resolve it...apparently not ...

JD must have accountants who can check JD's records/filings of whether the sales tax was remitted back to the State!

Your best bet and, I think, now the only option, is to go public with this via their social media account; doesn't matter if they're all on holiday (I find it impossible to believe that not one person is available to sort this....it beggars belief that JD think that no problems will ever arise which need an appropriately qualified person on hand to deal with it at any given time), it needs resolving immediately.

What a dog's dinner! And what an extremely poor advertisement for their customer service i.e. there is no will to solve the problem. A very poorly managed company. Effectively, mis-managed.

Thank you for your support. I agree with your conclusion.... the admin person who was trying to help me is with JD for about 2 weeks or 2 months, and the person who i was dealing with prior, just left on vacation in the middle of the open issue without informing her brand new staff on what is going on.... Plus inability to provide any workpapers/support related to CA State Sales tax (governmental entity) is simply shocking....There are certainly issues with internal controls, speaking from accounting/auditing perspective ... and very unfortunately I'm in the middle of all this mess.
