Thank you.... i'll provide this link to the State
apparently JD responded just now stating that DHL handles their taxes and duties (which doesn't make sense to me). Also JD wrote that will get back to me by tomorrow with the solution.
My hopes are not too high.... this saga has been going on since March 24
You're welcome.....the main thing is that the State can see that you've done, and are doing, everything you can to assist.

DHL may be involved in some way if they are completing and issuing customs forms, for example, based on info they receive from JD about the item, but I see no other reason especially as all taxes and duties are collected by JD at the time of payment.

Interesting that JD have just now responded......let's hope it'll be resolved very shortly, it's been a huge worry for you and I hope that if you buy from JD again that they'll give you a generous goodwill discount in recognition of the shambles the tax side of things has been and the stress it's been for you.

Saga continues and it is getting 'darker'
JD said that DHL is responsible for paying dues and taxes (which doesn't make sense to me for DHL to be involve with state sale taxes). JD contacted French DHL but there told to contact US DHL. US DHL told JD that their records only goes back 3 month. This order was from July 2023. After that JD says that DHL account manager in France, might have older records but her and her assistance are on holiday for the whole months. JD asked how i'd like to proceed. I requested JD issue me a refund for tax portion of my order, so i can remit taxes to the State on my own and be sure it is done correctly. After i sent that email, i got out of office reply that JD person i was communicating with is out on vacation from 8/10 - mid of Sept.
meanwhile, interest is being accrued on outstanding state sales tax; my name is in the state database for unpaid taxes; plus JD (their accounting system) overcharged me (by appr $100.00) on state sale tax... correct rate should have been 7.75% ... I did notice it a year ago but didn't question at the time since it is very hard to communicate via emails... and what's up phone number listed on JD site is never being picked up (i tried using it).
any advise/suggestions?

UGH!!!! This is totally unacceptable (as you know...).
I would phone the store in Paris (is this the number you have been phoning?---+33 1 88 40 29 15)---this is apparently the store---and ask for someone in customer service or the store manager---and go from there. If this is the number you are phoning---I'd still keep trying---maybe phoning first thing in the morning Paris time ?

Also, looping in the public relations people as @bagnut1 suggested is a great idea!

Thank you! calls to France cost me like $3 per min from my cell and i don't have land line... 33 6 99 75 43 36 is their WhatsApp # which allows for free call but of course, they don't respond.... i'll be buying a calling card... i'm so very disappointed with this experience

This is truly awful.

Does JD have FB as well as IG? If they do, and you have either of those, I think it's best to get on there and raise your complaint....if a lot of people see the accounts, JD will act very quickly, I am sure. I don't believe the the two people who can help are both on holiday at the same time!

If it was me I'd be asking JD for a full refund, as a gesture of goodwill, and there should then be no taxes to pay! The goodwill they would get from you would be beneficial to them and, equally importantly, would ensure that they thoroughly learn the tax process and how to remit it etc, and stop this unacceptable situation ever happening again.

Totally agree with this---and also tag @thebaghag here and even perhaps Ramesh (who has his own IG).

I'm considering bringing it all online (IG, FB)....trying to think of the best polite way to explain it, English is my 3rd language...

thank you very much! another group member gave it to me.... I'll call her tomorrow
oh boy... I can't believe what i got myself into
Oh gosh! I am also in California, purchased in Dec 2023 -- hope this doesn't happen to me!

Curious, did you give DHL your social security number as part of the release of your shipment? I did, and was hoping that meant that they were tracking state taxes had been paid prior to releasing the shipment.
