They may not be fully in charge of the production but I fully believe they have total control of which bag will come to the customer’s hand. And from what I’ve heard in this thread(albeit some negative comments without trust-worthy receipts), I fully believe in their quality. And shouldn’t we all be focus on design and quality of the bags instead of whether they are outsourcing or not ? Technology brands such as Apple still have others make their devices so if the product is splendid and the production is humanly ethical, why should we care about how they make their bags ?

Morning peeps ❤️ Indeed to me, I don't have issues with outsourced production as long as finished product quality is of a particular standard commensurate to their prices and meets my personal quality expectations. Because I work in the fashion industry, I've visited brand (in-house) ateliers as well as independent ateliers that are contracted by brands. I have even seen big brand bags alongside other brands being produced by an independent atelier, which did shock me because some of those bags belong to really big premium labels -- I signed an NDA and can't name them but I assure you, I still get shocked when I see labels like them outsourcing. Only because You'd think a big, storied brand like them would never outsource. But their problem isn't production. It is the lack of quality control of outsourced production.

They are in control of production. Further, every bag goes through stringent quality control sometimes by Ramesh and sometimes by the lead artisan. Employing craftspeople to sew bags is not "outsourcing" control. Final approvals are in house, and the house controls whom they use to stitch their bags.
This! This is the reason I buy JD bags. I have bought them solely because of Ramesh Nair -- he gets very involved with the artisans that their maison works with -- I've seen this from his time at Moynat and was actually able to also talk to the artisans he worked with during Moynat days. He seems extremely involved in the production process and I remember listening to him explaining to us about how the JD Saint-Clair was made. Initially actually I wanted the Diane, but after finding how how bloody painstaking it was to put the Saint-Clair together (my jaw literally dropped lol), I was super convinced I needed (haha need not want, take note) the Saint-Clair. And funnily that is my most used bag today ❤️ Also the artisan there made me try the angle stitch (believe me, I tried harrrd lol) and my goodness the thread seems to entangle every other stitch lol. It was NOT easy.

When it comes to premium designer bags that cost above €3,000 I become a snob about quality (but in saying that, I love good bags no matter their price point 😃). I've had to return a Hermes sellier kelly in the past for an "overpulled" stitch which caused the leather to tear (in the soufflot area). I didn't initially see it when I was presented the bag but when I came home and took the bag out again, I saw the tear and the potential problem it could cause over time. Hermes' head of leather at the time came out to meet me because of it, apologizing profusely for the problem, and offered me another bag as a result of it.

In the end, it's what makes brands like Hermes and JD worth the money -- it doesn't matter to me if they indeed outsource production but it matters to me how well they manage quality control. And what they do if their products fall short of customers' quality expectations. Hermes is incredible with their after-sales service and JD, I've had no issues so far ❤️ Already have 4 of their products (3 bags, 1 beautiful bandouliere), am planning on getting a 4th bag soon, and by the way, no one seems to mention this but their perfumes are sooooo good! I love the Lectoure and the Eau de Manufacture ❤️❤️

Happy weekend, peeps!!

I don't know, I attended the trunk show and visited their shop in Paris, touched and tried on over 15 bags and was literally shocked at the level of quality as it was beyond anything I had seen in the past, including H. However they manufacture, and whoever they use, must be the best of the best as those bags are not only made to last, they are perfection. How can you do that level of work if you are not a master at your craft? It appears to me the oversight is just fine. I am not an expert in any of these areas, but I have looked at, and own, many luxury bags, so I feel I have a pretty good eye for quality and JD seems to have it down. Just my humble opinion.
I concur with you re: JD ❤️❤️ Back at the Ramesh Nair-led Moynat, I saw this exact quality too. It was impressive -- those vanity boxes blew me away! And I still kick myself today for not buying one of his stone vanity bags 💔

I visited Moynat just a few weeks ago to check out their Gaby bags (they kept pushing the M canvas collection to me initially 💀), and the quality is no longer the same. I did a "forensic" inspection lol (the SA was kind enough to let me do it lol). It's strange how all that changed after Nair's departure, but I guess it does show that Nair is really the common denominator for why quality was (and is) so high between these houses. Doesn't matter if atelier was in-house or outsourced. Because if Moynat was using in-house this whole time, why did the quality decline after Nair's exodus? Knightly's first collection was meh design-wise, but the quality of the bags was definitely worlds apart from Nair's Moynat -- I checked out the bags. So, what changed?

I think when it comes to design houses, key people who work within them become the label's BIGGEST assets. Ramesh was Moynat's biggest asset, and his departure saw an almost immediate quality and design decline in product. Today, Nair is Duclos' biggest asset. My bag purchases from both houses reflect that -- quality unparalleled. I have no regrets buying Nair's bags 😍

To me, apart from design details, it's really the quality of a bag, how well it is put together, and its potential longevity and growth with me over time, are really what make the bag worth its price. But hey, that's my criteria ❤️

Ok, here's another question for any of you who have a JD bag in Heritage leather---especially a color other than black or the chestnut. My fauve barenia pieces from Hermes are now very dark brown and I'm guessing that the black just has patina changes but doesn't change color. Correct?

But if you have another color, how has it changed over time? I'm considering a bag in a brighter colored heritage leather but not sure what happens to the blue, red, or green, or even the ardoise, over time and would like to know before ordering.

Thanks in advance!
Hi. I can share with you brand new chestnut with a 21 year old Fauve barenia. I own also Ebene barenia, but that one is the best wat to describe that one is chocolatey brown, so it’s not easy to see the patina unless I compare it to an ebene faubourg (significantly newer..maybe 2 years old).

As a long time bag lover and owner of too many bags from various fashion houses, I want to say I am so excited with my jd pieces. I don’t resell the pieces I’ve purchased and so far have kept every bag I’ve purchased. I’ve custom ordered a strap with a second one on the way and it’s absolutely stunning. I love the styles of the Dianes. The customer service has been outstanding as well. I am also a long time Hermes client and I was definitely more excited about my Dianes arriving than my boutique fresh box Kelly, probably because I was dreaming of the elusive barenia in a birkin or Kelly. I am a really a big fan of full grain leather, especially ones that are durable enough to withstand a bit of rain. It rains too often here. I literally check the weather before I use any box leather bags. I would be happy to share comparison pictures of the Diane with anyone that is interested.

may I ask what was customized with the strap you ordered? was it only the length or a completely different type of strap (e.g. canvas)?

wow that is beautiful!!!😍😍

that's an odd statement about a brand started in 2021... don't you find?
judging by promotional samples at trunk shows also seems strange... a bit like judging McDonalds food by how it looks in the ads :coolio:
I clearly wrote I had also visited their flagship store in Paris and tried on bags there too. Bags that were for sale, not trunk show
bags, though they were all the same worldwide. Quality travels well. My experience with them is seeing their bags multiple times and having followed them from the very beginning. So no, it's not a bit like judging a french fry ad.

Hi all JD lovers. I feel like we need to start a new thread for lovers of this brand only. No negative comments, no attacking the brand. Just honest talk about the bags, design and Ramesh. And that would include issues too, nobody is saying this brand is perfect. I am thinking about this as this thread has a tendency to totally stress me out when people come in here just to attack. I don't usually mind negative comments but these feel like an attempt to sully the JD reputation for nefarious reasons.

I was actually thinking the same.

I do believe you need to ask an admin if you can start a new thread as they would then archive this one.
If you do it without admin ok they could juat merge the two or close the new one.

Totally with you re stress… actually I feel thats the objective of the attacks, to plant doubts about non-issues that are never raised for any other brand. And when challenged, to pivot & start a new attack on another non-issue.
There’s a similarity in tone that makes me wonder if these are avatars of the same person ???
Any new thread would just attract them there as well. Personally I have decided to ignore & not give oxygen to negativity.

My parting thoughts on this before I am HOPEFULLY posting my L30 next week...

it is just as important to read dissent as it is to read supportive posts. If I were new to the brand I would be suspicious if everything I read online was "puppies and rainbows", to this end, it is always BUYER BEWARE, do your homework and decide if something is for you.
With JD a client can request and book a virtual appointment where they can ask to view almost anything and everything about the bags. The associates are empowered and willing to share any information about the process and are proud to show off the bags, accessories, and perfume.

I too am in love with Eau De Manufacture - i ordered a bottle to be sent with my L30. In my opinion, this fragrance beats all the TF's in the category of smoke and leather.
