I have a policy through Jeweler's Mutual. In the past, I had a rider on my homeowner's insurance, but when we moved into our current house (in a hurricane/flood zone), it was actually a better policy and price if I used a jewelry-only insurer. I would never go without insurance on all my pricier pieces. What if something happened to them?!

That seems like a very high yearly premium to insure your e-ring. I have a policy through JM and I pay about $200 or so per year on my policy. I have my engagement ring, my wedding band and my diamond earrings on that policy. I will have to go home and see what all it covers, but I think your quote seems pricy.

Did you declare the amount you paid or the amount being appraised?

I'd contact Nationwide. I have my e-ring insured through them along with my car and apartment. They will probably give you a multiple policy discount.

Well, I called them and they said the value is too high for them to insure for a single jewelry piece, which is surprising.....they insure house but not a ring??? I mean there are many many people who's rings cost more than 100K, WTH??

WOW, that sounds high!! I insure mine through our rental insurance and it is either $80 or $160 yearly. I had the ring appraised and took the appraisal to them and they added it to our current policy. The appraised value was a bit higher than what we paid.

That's bizarre that they said the value was too high to insure. My agent seemed very surprised at the value of my ring, but then she went on to tell me about someone who had a $20,000+ ring that was stolen and their insurance covered the value. So I know they will insure in the $20,000's there.

i insure my ring through my homeowner's insurance. for a second i contemplated NOT doing it, but i would be devasted if something happened to it. i'm ok with paying for a peace of mind.

They take into account the risk of it as well, not just the value. The risk of a house getting burnt down a far lower than, touch wood, a person losing their ring (lost, stolen, mugged etc). I'm sure some insurer will insure it, try Chubb, but the insurance on such an expensive ring would be a fair bit, but it is definitely worth it just for that peace of mind alone!

But your house doesn't get lost down a sink, or stolen easily etc.

I think your options for high end jewelry is only Chubb or Firemans Fund. Have Fireman's Fund & am very happy with it. (These are the only 2 companies that would insure our home.) They both offer the ability to buy unlimited riders for jewelry, art, etc.

Our's is the about the same ($160ish for the year). DF has State Farm for his auto and homeowner's (well renter's for us) insurance and my e-ring is under that policy and wedding band will be as well. State Farm is great because my e-ring is branded and it is insured for the amount that we paid for. I am not sure if it is a cash-out policy or will replace with same branded item policy.

I'm with Met Life - I pay a nominal amount for a Jewelry Blanket added on to my homeonwers - it covers up to 1K, for any piece of jewelry, anywhere in the world when it is in my possession.
For my nice jewelry, I have it on a separate rider, and each piece is individually insured. I've been told I can save a fair piece if I go with a jewelry insurance company for the separate rider.

I just got mine recently, and I was wondering if I should add it to our homeowners policy. I'd be devastated if it got lost, but how could it, it's bolted on! :D

Do you insure yours if you wear it all the time?
