I'm sorry to hear that!

May I ask how do you insure your jewelry? Do you need receipts and pictures?

If you don't have receipts anymore, take your jewellery to a good jeweller who can appraise it for you,and make a detailed valuation certificate for you that encompasses a description and current value.Pics are also invaluable too..........in case it happens any of your items are never seen again, that some could be re-made for you if they cannot be sourced through the trade anymore.

Thank you for the info! I don't have giant rock or things like that, but little bit adds up. :smile1:

My house insurance covers a lum sum of amount on jewelries. I have much more than what is covered. I'm considering buying additional insurance and my agent told me it's 1.30 for every $100. Is it worthy to do? Do you gals buy insurance on your jewelry?

i definitely do. especially my ering which has a high appraised value.

basically anything that's valued at $1,000 or more i have a separate policy for and if it's lost or stolen, they replace it at its full appraisal value and/or what i paid for it, not what it's worth if jewelry depreciates (which can happen, believe it or not). this way, i don't pay a deductible on these pieces either.

something to look into if you have individual pieces that are worth several thousand.

I think your amount is a little high compared to mine. Mine is about 1.18/100, with no questions asked and no conditions. If I report it lost or stolen then they will give me the amount insured. I do have to get the items appraised by an approved gemtologist. Have you tried asking from other insurers? I think that it is a very good idea to insure the expensive pieces that you wear most often.

Mine is 1.00/100

But when I needed to claim on my ER, they did not just give me a check for the appraised amount. As they explained it to me, that is the "most" they would pay for an exact match. If it is less, than they will only pay the actual amount.
Also, if you do not re-appraise based on inflation, etc., and an exact replacement is more, you top out at the appraised value

i also actually lost my original wedding set a year and a half after we were married (almost 15 years ago). thank goodness we had a rider on our policy (although at the time, we were using allstate and now have merged everything over with state farm), because they cut me a check for the amount of the ring, which was wonderful. it was so stressful and so depressing that having an easy process with the adjuster was a breeze.

thank goodness i was able to replace it with something equivalent, because at the time, i was still in school and my husband wasn't earning the salary he makes now.

Anyone in the UK advise which is a good company for jewellery insurance? In particular for an engagement ring (it was valued at just over £7k in 2007). What sort of price should I be looking to pay a year? Thanks :smile1:

have you looked into lloyds of london? i believe they're pretty well known and reputable.

I know this is an old post, but alot of the replies are people with homeowners insurance or rental insurance and have been getting riders to insure their jewelry. But I don't have either.. so I can't really use that. I know Chubb and Jewelers Mutual was mentioned but do they cover items only based on appraisal? I currently have a Tiffany ring, so I know if we have it appraised it will probably not be covered enough so that it is equal to buying an equivalent at Tiffanys again. I was reading through Jewelers Mutual's policy and basically there was this statement that made me not want to do business with them: “Covered property” that “we” have paid for or replaced will become “our” property. I'm not sure what that statement really means... is this a common thing amoung all policies?

Now I got my upgrade ring, I'm considering buying insurance for it. It costs me about $1800/year through Jewelers Mutual. That's about $150/months, and that's quite expensive.

Do you have insurance for your E-ring, in that case from who? Are there any other insurance company who's policy is as good as Jewelers Mutual?

Thanks!

Yes, I insure mine through State Farm, which is our carrier for car and home insurance as well. Are you insuring for actual replacement value or for was it was appraised for?

Jewelers Mutual for only Jewelry. It has better policy so I heard (they let you pick the jeweler you want to use in case of loss.) I have a home owners insurance and auto insurance through Nationwide.

Am I supposed to declare the actual amount I paid for or the appraisal amount? Jewelers Mutual requires me to send the appraisal, but value is much higher than what I paid.
