I have not insured mine but will give some thought to it - like you're thinking.....yes, it is bolted on but there is a possiblity (slim) of it being lost/stolen. I was in Vegas for the past week and had to take it off to travel. Leaving IA, I set off the security alarms. It wasn't bad being frisked in the IA airport as there was no-one behind us in line :) but there was NO WAY I was chancing that experience leaving Vegas with about 500 people behind me.

i dont have any of my jewelry insured.

i probably should.. i have 2 love bracelets, 2 love rings, love screw earrings and the screw necklace... i dont have a house so not even sure how you would get it insured.

Okay, since we're on this subject. Want to get your opinions... if your jewelry is in a safe and used for only special occasions, would you insure it? Or only insure the pieces that stay in your jewelry box and get worn all the time. I have some of my fine jewelry in the safe and some of it in my jewelry box. It's like I want to be protected but on the other hand, I don't want to pay tons on insurance either. What do you guys think?

Yes, if I had a Love Bracelet, I would insure it. I like to sleep well at night and know that all my cherished items are insured. Even though I do end up paying a chunk of money to insure everything (I actually just insured my Chanel flap purse, lol), it gives me piece of mind, and makes it easier to enjoy wearing everything when I don't have to worry about losing things or having them stolen.

I have my stuff insured through USAA and they are wonderful. We live in NYC, so we don't have a house or a car, but somehow they agreed to let us get a jewelry policy through them (started it with my engagement ring but have gradually been adding other items to the policy, ie watch, purse, etc). If you have either a house or car policy, though, I think you can usually add jewelry onto it pretty easily with most insurance companies. Also, I think some ladies mentioned an insurance company called CHUBB, that is specifically for jewelry, so separate from a homeowner's policy (I don't have any experience with them, so I can't comment).

I would insure, because you never know if someone will break into your home or rob you at gunpoint. Those kinds of events happen EVERYWHERE so you can never be too careful.

If you have a small fire safe that is not securely BOLTED to your baseboards, thieves can and have taken the safe with them so they can attempt to open it at their leisure. An acquaintance of mine loves to tell the story of when he saw these two guys throwing a safe down the street, hoping to crack it open.

You can't have a jeweler rider with renter's insurance? I'm sure you can...

I insure anything over the 2500 limits of my homeowners insurance.

Really, it's all about risk tolerance. I live in an area where there are wildfires, so I don't trust anything in my house to save things. I keep some items in a safe deposit box for that reason. The rider will cover for anything....damage, lost stones, etc. I feel better having it.

Wanted to get everyone's thoughts and opinions on getting insurance for your jewelry pieces. Do you get insurance for your valuable jewelry? If so, which pieces do you normally insure? DH and I have been trying to decide whether or not to get my e-ring and wedding bands insured. Called our homeowners insurance and those would have to be scheduled out separately (like a separate insurance policy) due to their value. Unfortunately, it is a bit pricey. There is also an option to increase our blanket jewelry policy. That is less pricey than the insurance would be for my e-ring/wedding bands, but we still can't decide if it's worth doing. The only really valuable piece I have right now aside from my e-ring/wedding bands is the ring my mom bought for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I am planning on adding some expensive additions from VCA and Tiffany to my collection in the upcoming year. Just don't have them yet. What do you guys think? How do you decide on whether to insure jewelry or not? Is there a certain value the piece must go over in order to warrant getting insurance?

Here is my jewelry collection so far without my e-ring/wedding bands:

Can't wait to get my VCA and Tiffany stuff ;)

Do you guys think any of this needs to be insured?

I think you should insure your expensive stuff. It is costly, but think of how devastating it would be if you were to lose it or if it were stolen. For me, I think I would insure anything over $2K, but I don't know what the normal rule of thumb is. All I have insured right now is my ER, but I'm going to add my Love bracelet this week.

I have all of my jewelry insured. If you can't easily afford to drop the same amount of money to replace it right away, you should definitely insure it. All of my things are insured through Chubb. If you own branded and specialty items make sure they are listed on your policy as such. You will pay a higher premium through Chubb but they cut you a check in the event of a loss, as opposed to replacing through their own jeweler.

My fiance's family has a policy just for the family's jewelry and they added my engagement ring before he gave it to me. I'm pretty sure they had to get a separate policy from their homeowners due to how much needed to be insured.

I would definitely insure your e-ring and anything else of value. You can choose whether or not to file a claim for the small stuff, but if you ever had a big break-in or something else terrible happen then you could just file one claim and have everything taken care of.
