I don’t think it’s so much finding pleasure in “strong women failing” so much as seeing these people as actually human.

J. Lo presents herself in ways I think are over the top. Everything is perfection, so much money, so happy, look at meeeeee, over saturated in general. It becomes off-putting. And other celebs do this, too. So it makes people crave to see them brought back down to reality.

I think the difference between male and female celebs is that men seem to cruise along and not feel the need to up the ante the way women do. Women celebs seem to need to one up each other, and in doing so creates reasons for people to be turned off by them. It feel complicated to try to explain, and probably isn’t fair to women, but it is what it is. I mean, Billie Eilish recently took a swipe at Taylor Swift so it isn’t just non-celebs waiting for celeb downfall.

So when we see something go wrong, we collectively have a sigh of relief and a little chuckle because they’re human and prone to the same pitfalls and miseries as the rest of us. Only difference for celebs is the higher you climb, the farther you fall and that thud echoes a lot louder when they hit the ground.

People can be so mean, and take pleasure in seeing anyone fail, not just strong women. Celebrities, especially, all have their turn at going down hard. Taylor will have hers, too... they all do, it's just how we operate as a society --- lift people up and knock em' down and take pleasure in seeing them come down a few pegs. The younger, hotter, shinier thing is amazing, until it's past its prime. I see male celebs take hits too, especially as they age (Brad Pitt isn't a golden boy anymore, who under 30 even knows of George Clooney? Justin Timberlake can't sell tickets either, so it's not just done to women). JLo strikes me as someone who does not give up easily though, and will find a way back into something. She seems like a super hard worker and probably does have a lot of fans, but who aren't going to concerts for fun anymore -- like her they probably have kids and families and other priorities.

Nobody stays on top for ever but many people, not just celebs, forget that they encounter many of the same people on their way down that they passed on their climb up. People remember how you treated them and JLo has a rep for being really unpleasant to deal with.

I'm not really a fan of taylor swift...couldn't even recognize any of her songs but I do think she is a talented performer and song writer. The others you cited are also very talented. J Lo IMO is a mediocre actress, singer and dancer who has gained success from self-promotion and keeping herself in shape.

People need to know when to bow out gracefully or try something new.

The comments about the tour cancel were funny
"dozens of people affected"

 :coolio:  that is why I said it sounded like a friend of hers wrote this. most people are not even thinking about her let alone running around giddy that her tour fell apart. they just do not care anymore.

There was an article on Yahoo about people not willing to go to so many concerts anymore like they were just post Covid. Overwhelmingly, it was the high ticket prices that were cited. People just don't want to pay the huge money and often can't afford it in the current economy.

As far as Lopez, I don't take joy in her being taken down a notch and I honestly don't like all the hate she is getting (aren't we supposed to be nice to other women now?) but when you are all over bragging about your wonderful relationship, it's inevitable that you can't stay at that level forever. How many housewives have we seen making the big production out of renewing their vowels only to end up divorced a short while later?

Now with MM, I probably WOULD take some joy because I don't like what she did to the BRF and I think she is a grifter.

True enough, but I could say the same thing about Rob Lowe. He has made an entire career of his appearance and he keeps himself in shape. He's a hustler and he just won't stop. (Not in a bad way or anything). I can't say he has any massive acting talent or anything and every year on his anniversary, he is all over IG talking about his great marriage.

We're outliers I guess, we're at a live music event almost monthly! They are expensive for big names in big venues, but those aren't our faves anyhow.

I love Rob Lowe, excellent example of doing fun roles and not needing a huge production team working on his media around the clock.
Lots of examples of moving on gracefully, lots of big names had to ditch movies for tv.

^ I agree. I think she definitely should step back. Fortunately for her she has the means. Her starlight has been taking hits lately too. It seems someone’s PR has been working against JLo and not in a favorable light. Her kids will fly the nest soon to live their adult lives. Enjoy them. Time flies. And perhaps work on her relationship with Ben. I can see them working thru this IF THEY BOTH want to.
I think if both ppl want to try, they can make it work. I'm a romantic at heart, at least when it comes to other ppl. I just know that if this marriage fails, JLo will be very, very crushed.

Previously she talked about having a meltdown after her divorce from Marc Anthony.
