Well she likely ends up being the victim because Janet picked up what she saw her parents do. With Janet's mother, Katherine she has stayed with Joe despite his constant cheating on her and the fact that her kids were abused (verbally and physically by him) . With Janet's father, Joe it is known he was abusive towards the Jackson kids (verbally and physically) as well as it being known he would constantly cheat on Katherine which in one case has resulted in him having a child with a mistress (Joe has a daughter/Janet has a half-sister that is a few years younger than her named Joh'Vonnie). Janet stays in these relationship long-term like Katherine has but with her 4 serious relationship she ended up either dating or marrying someone that has had tendencies of her father Joe.
It's been said that a girl's first love is her father. Building a solid foundation on morals and whats a healthy relationship begins at home.
Playing devil's advocate, it's easy to blame Joe for problems his children who are now middle-aged adults have faced. Didn't Janet herself say she despite Joe's behavior she didn't think her father was abusive? Joe has children like Marlon who allegedly got it the worst from Joe and Rebbie who have both sustained long relationships. I believe Marlon has been married to his wife for over 40 years and so was Rebbie to her husband until his death.
Janet in San Antonio, Texas...Janet has a show there tonight but has been there the last few days.

Wasn't trying to necessarily blame Katherine or Joe but looking at their relationship it could be a factor of their children's outlook/outcomes in relationships. The Jackson kids were seeing what their parents did and even as adults probably subconsciously didn't realize they were repeating a cycle. 4 of the Jackson brothers cheated on their spouses or long-time girlfriends (Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, and Randy). Then with La Toya and Janet they have both been in abusive relationships. It is public knowledge that though Marlon and his wife have remained married but at one time they were separated and almost divorced back in the 80s. Rebbie is the only one that actually stayed married without separating and 1 of the 2 siblings that didn't get divorced. So I was just trying to say what Janet (and her siblings) experienced/witnessed in their childhood still remained in the back of their mind even though they are all adults I mean both Michael (when he was alive) and Janet have even said that. Michael and Janet both also as adults (other siblings could have as well but I don't remember them acknowledging it) admitted to having depression and anxiety as adults caused by things that happened in their childhood. Michael told his story of depression & anxiety with songs on his album HIStory while Janet told her story of depression and anxiety on with songs on her album The Velvet Rope.
At the end of the day Joe definitely did a number on his kids. Janet has called her relationship with Joe strained where she can go a long time without even seeing/talking to him. While Janet has said Joe's behavior towards her wasn't abusive compared to what she knows her siblings got because she was the youngest...she has admitted that Joe had spanked her when she was naked when she was getting out of the shower at a time when she was younger than 8 and that is something that stands out in her mind regarding her childhood and Joe. Also Janet said before just a few years ago back in 2011 what she was going to do different if she ever became a parent compared to how Joe treated her and her siblings. She said if she ever had a child she would show her child a lot of attention, a lot of love, and spend a lot time with the child. She would also constantly tell the child she loves them so they would know and wouldn't have to wonder or guess if she loves them because she felt with Joe she had to wonder if he loved her. Essentially she wants to be the parent Joe never was to the her/her siblings but I think she wants to be the parent Katherine was to Janet and her siblings.
From start to 6:30 in the video below she mentions what I talked about above about her relationship with Joe and how if she ever became a parent she wanted to be different than how Joe treated her and her siblings.

It is one of Janet's lesser known singles/music videos but the "Twenty Foreplay" music video has always been one of my favorites music videos by Janet. It is both Dorothy Dandridge inspired and cinematicatlly beautiful. Good to see that the song is finally being performed on the State Of The World tour (she hasn't performed it live prior to the current tour) and also saw that the music video is serving as the visuals playing in the background while the song is being sang.

True, but I meant being covered from head to toe. I guess we shall see if it's really a smear campaign.
