Aaaack! Please be aware this Vaseline type concoction should never be used on light colored bags. It is not possible to spot check, because it creates unsightly dark stains in random sections of the leather. The same bag can be impervious to staining in one area, while another section or spot will stain. The older chevre leather is very susceptible, and you can destroy a precious bag in seconds! I’ve done it. :crybaby:
I realize this has been covered in the past on the Bal care thread, but can you please quickly list what we SHOULD use for light colored bags, esp Chevre?

Is there something else recommended for light color bags? And the inconsistent staining you've experienced, was it only on the goat leather, or on lamb and calf as well?

I just impulse bought an insane floral City that I'm really excited about, but the photos are suspiciously blurred, like the seller is going out of its way to hide the condition of the leather. From a few hints I can see, the leather looks pretty cracked/dry, but hard to tell for sure given deliberately crappy photos. I anticipate it will need conditioning, and I want to be mindful of the light and dark colors on the lambskin.

*edit* looks like @reovi already asked this question.

Yikes.. I'm glad I added the caveat to my post. I don't own any light bags, I guess Magenta would be the lightest so thankfully never tried it on anything lighter than purple.
I guess the leather has different absorption rates, throughout, making testing futile.. That's too bad..
Thanks for the warning. Sorry your knowledge came at the loss/damage of a precious bag.

I'm also curious to know what would be good for light colored bags. I have the LMB kit of cleaner, conditioner & shine but for some reason I never noticed much of a difference when I used it.

I haven't noticed much improvement with LMB either. I watch these leather bag/shoe reconditioning videos and they use some kind of initial surface cleaner, then a deep sudsing cleaning, scrub and conditioning with saddle cleaner (I think called Saphir), then wipe dry, lightly brush down (this part freaks me out, but I guess the bristles are soft), let dry overnight, and moisturize the next day.

Continuing my recent Death By Balenciaga Binge With a Vengeance To Atone For Lost Time, this lovely arrived today. Given my very long hiatus from keeping an eye on Balenciagas offerings, I'm suddenly finding so many things that are probably not new to anyone here, but to me are "I had no idea they made this, and don't know what it is, but where has this been all my life?"

So I'd love to introduce this, but I have no idea what it is. I know its a S/S 2013, and the color code is 4291 (NOT bleu mineral from that season, which is 4160). But it took my breath away. And as per usual, my camera insists on washing out the color. Impossible to capture. In the listing photo it looked almost like a metallic Ink (purpley-navy) but IRL it looks solidly metallic deep navy. Interestingly, the interior leather tag is a matt version of the color, with no metallic effect. By the looks of the outside, where there has been some wear, what's rubbed off is the deeper navy tone, leaving behind more raw metallic. So the metallic effect on the interior tag couldn't have just rubbed off, since it's the navy that rubs off, not the metallic. This is the first time I've seen signs of wear on the handles lightening them, rather than darkening them.

Bonus points to any one who knows what this is (calling guru @muchstuff).F9E5A09A-02FD-4F48-B5F8-57797DCD2089.jpeg1C1388A0-5768-443C-8B59-0AEB050C8096.jpeg3866463B-DB8A-4CCB-B5F8-66376F417A52.jpeg
