Is the Hermes "Birkin" worth the money and the wait? Is it obtainable?

QF, when you said high end stores, did you mean well known resellers like fashionphile and Madison Avenue? Thank you.

QF, correct me if I am wrong, but I interpreted the comment to mean when she is shopping at other high end stores and sees another customer with a Hermes bag, it often turns out to be fake upon closer inspection.

Yes, that's what I mean. In, say, Neiman Marcus or Barneys, I see a LOT of "good" fakes. Sometimes I can't tell until a bag is sitting on the counter or on a chair. And I'm sure sometimes I am still wrong!

I don't think there are any rules you have to follow or minimum purchase levels required to be offered a birkin (or a kelly, for that matter). I don't think you have to be on any lists either. I got my first B recently, and it was my dream bag--b30 in graphite ostrich :love::love:. It was actually my very first purchase from an H boutique (I bought my lindy from H.com)! And it wasn't even my local store--I was offered it by an SA I had met when I was in NY visiting friends a few months ago, who I kept in touch with. I'd been offered some bags from my local store, but no Bs or Ks, even though I asked about them often. It was probably due to some combination of my local store not getting as many bags in sizes I am interested in (according to my SA here, I could pick any 40 I wanted), luck, and perhaps not connecting as much with the SA here even though I have had a lot of interaction with him. I realize that I am incredibly lucky to have been offered my dream birdie as my first B, but hopefully my story also goes to show that it's possible to have that happen to anyone, even without plonking down money on other items

I got my first Birkin in 2015 from my local Hermes store.
Before that i had never purchased anything from my local store as im travelling all the time and prefer to buy lux items while travelling.
I was on a waiting list, and had to wait 14 months. I got the color/size i wanted. Im on the list for another one now, its been 1 year, so im hoping i get the call soon :D

No waitlist that I know of in Vienna, Austria. If they have what you seek, they will likely show you. Especially if they know you´re a local, but it's not mandatory. B, K, L, Vic, Plume, Evy... I´ve seen them all displayed inside, except for Bolides (wonder why?).

Maybe the boutique here is not playing hard to get or coy because, right around the corner, there´s a number of reputable resellers whose window displays always have one or several B, K, L et al, so they're not really king of the turf ;-)

I'm new to Hermes and I'm very overwhelmed with all this info. Can someone give me some info? I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere. How much exactly is a bag like a black Togo birkin in 30 with gh? And what is this thing being "offered"? Do I have to spend a certain amount to be able to purchase it?! Thank you in advance!

I have never bought an item from Hermes and I was offered one after being on the list for over a year for an Etain, 30/35 with Palladium hardware. passed on it since it had gold hardware, waiting for my dream bag, Eutope in gold would be dreamy....Black in either hardware, will continue to wait patiently.

There's a few times that I contemplated buying from resellers or second hand. In the end I always decide to just wait for that unlikely phone call from the boutique
Problem is that I am really lazy and therefore can't be bothered to learn all the details to verifiy the authenticity of a bag. (Neither do I think I'll ever able to either) I don't like the idea of paying S$ 10k mark up and then still having that lingering doubts of whether I just spent $25k on a super/hyper fake

Very few people outside Hermes corporation know how to authenticate a Hermes bag. There are very reputable companies do that for a small fee.

Considering my first birkin as a graduation present for us. But I have many questions.... is there still a waitlist? I'm not picky and want a classic common color like either black or tan or olive, non-croc. Can I walk in and just buy one nowadays? Is the cheapest one still over $10k? Should I be wary of buying a used one since it seems like not many people can distinguish between a real and fake bag? If I were to go the used route... which site is reputable??? So overwhelming!

TIA for any one who can help a girl :)

There are great authenticators for Hermès, the premier one being Bababebi at bababebi.com.

Thank you! It seems the birkin ranges from $9-12k for non-crocs /limited editions. Is there still a waiting list at the stores??
