I don't think there are any rules you have to follow or minimum purchase levels required to be offered a birkin (or a kelly, for that matter). I don't think you have to be on any lists either. I got my first B recently, and it was my dream bag--b30 in graphite ostrich

. It was actually my very first purchase from an H boutique (I bought my lindy from H.com)! And it wasn't even my local store--I was offered it by an SA I had met when I was in NY visiting friends a few months ago, who I kept in touch with. I'd been offered some bags from my local store, but no Bs or Ks, even though I asked about them often. It was probably due to some combination of my local store not getting as many bags in sizes I am interested in (according to my SA here, I could pick any 40 I wanted), luck, and perhaps not connecting as much with the SA here even though I have had a lot of interaction with him. I realize that I am incredibly lucky to have been offered my dream birdie as my first B, but hopefully my story also goes to show that it's possible to have that happen to anyone, even without plonking down money on other items
