I don't think it's tacky, per se. What it IS is ubiquitous ... and that's why I don't care for it. I prefer things everybody and their mama doesn't have.
exactly!! I just bought the Emilie Wallet yesterday Empreinte (black). I would never purchase any LV SLG/bag in DE or monogram. Everyone and their sister has one. saturated market…Not to mention with so many fake accessories out there these two have lost their appeal.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. It’s a very personal preference I guess. I used to be a huge LV lover back in the day, moved on and got really into Hermes. But lately I love the monogram again. It’s obviously very recognizable but also very lightweight, classic and yet it’s fun. I love the argument that there’s so many fakes out there… yeah so? I couldn’t really care less about other peoples fakes nor their opinion on my style preferences. And I wished more people could free themselves from the constant comparison with strangers. Must be exhausting.

Hello,

I am currently ready to purchase a new purse (the speedy b 25 and neonoe are the top contenders), but I am concerned that anything that is very obviously LV is too tacky/loud/cheap looking. I also have bags in epi and empreinte and don’t like these leathers.

I am a university professor and I’m concerned that mono or DE is unprofessional for work. Any thoughts? Anyone staying away from mono?

TBH I do think it’s pretty *plus* as a fellow academic (emerita) I can say it is definitely the only bag most of my colleagues could ever pick out as designer, which sometimes made me feel weird even though my NF was amping my cheapest bags.

That said, the NF GM was the best work bag I’ve ever had and was great for toting a laptop, grading, tons of books, a stapler, lunch, and a bottle of water, probably more. I used mine for easily 15 years, loading it up like crazy and my back suffered more than the bag. One of the side straps got caught on something and snapped a few years ago so I took it in and had all the leather replaced, good as new.

It sounds like the bags you’re considering are much smaller, so I don’t know if you are looking for a workhorse or have to carry scads of books, files, etc. I’d get an Evelyne over a Noe and would imagine you’d have to carry a tote in addition to a Speedy. I have a Speedy 40 (?), whatever the biggest one was, and could get a MacBook Pro in it on days when I didn’t need to bring anything else to lectures.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. For as long as you keep the rest of your outfit clean and classy, you will look professional. Just be confident wearing it.

I remember one of the best professors I had in college who always brought this huge mono Neverfull with her in every class to carry her laptop. She’s always in a crisp white shirt, always looks so put together, and I’d always think she’s one of the smartest and classiest woman ever.

’t

LOL I hope this was me. If not, I hope students thought I was chic with my giant Mon Monogram NF.

100% about how you feel, 0% about LV the brand changing in any way. The logos have always been a huge feature in the brand; it's been hyped for decades and particularly since the Marc Jacobs era; yes it's popular and seen widely--all are status quo. Just your interest has flagged, which is fine, but the thread title is off-base. (Evidently you're having a moment, since you say the same about Chanel.)

Plenty of nice things out there. Have fun.

I would somewhat agree that LV isn’t what it used to be, but not because of what you’ve said in your post. That just sounds like you’ve gone off the brand. The logo/monogram hasn’t changed at all.

Personally, I feel like the brand has taken a much different direction in the last couple of years, and that isn’t for me. I will continue to enjoy my own collection and I will be open to any other items they may produce in the future that are more in keeping with my style.

I love LV. I have several of the bags. I'm starting to feel like they look tacky. Tired of the LV logos, tired of the hype, tired of everyone and everyone wearing them.
I will not ever purchase another LV bag. I think it's time I look for more neutral and lovely designer.

Luckily nobody is forcing anyone to buy it. :flowers:

But I can't help it but wonder why does it bother you what other people wear or not wear..?

My thoughts precisely. I’ve read quite a few posts here over the years by people who are overly concerned with exclusivity. Of course that’s the nature of “luxury”, not everyone has it (or wants to have it, even) but I cannot understand why seeing other people with the same bag is off-putting for so many people. It seems a bit obnoxious to me.

Totally. Also its very elitist. Which I find way more off-putting than any Logo print.
