Is it worth the time to fly all the way to Paris for first Hermes?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

They will send it to your home as long as you placed an order there. But it's true they will declare the actual value and you will be charged GST on the bag.

I thought there was another tPF'er who said that she had to fly there to get her bag? Wait, or is this only for SO's?

The thought of flying to Paris for shopping sounds so fun. I'd totally do something like that..Love your passion! But, as others have said, it probably would not be worth it for the sales alone since most of those things you want won't likely be on sale....I think the experience will be fun and memorable though- and will definitely make a good story to tell.

I think you get higher chances of scoring a Birkin in Paris if you do not have VERY specific choices, so it's good if it is your first Birkin. (As you have more, you tend to be left with less options because you may get offered what you already have...)
Also bear in mind that even if you do get offered a Birkin, it may not necessarily be what you want in terms of leather, colour, size....If you DO get what you want though, the feeling is priceless!
I'd say the holiday alone there is FABULOUS...So, go go GO...!!!

Hi,

Based on my experience last summer the H Sale is worth to go.. off course the classic items are not on sale but seasonal items such as Hermes scarves and belt, shoes are on sale up to 40%. I scored 4 silk scarves (145 euro each after 40% off).

Another thing to consider is the summer sale in Paris. Paris is the best place to go for summer sale.

Anyway good luck with your BIRKIN hunting.. as I myself is still hunting for one.

I am back being a happy woman!

Not only did I score my Birkin, I also bought a lot of H stuff from the sales.

My friend, who flew over after knowing that I have scored a Birkin, also scored a Birkin!

My Birkin 35 Prune Clemence and my friend's 40 Black Clemence.

The very crowded sales venue -I queue about 2 hours

I was supposed to travel with a friend. However she suddenly fell ill so we cancel our flight. But my heart was in Paris and had paid for the hotel stay already. Thus, 5 hours before the flight, I rebooked the ticket. I was all alone on the trip to Paris. Immediately after touching down, I went to the sales venue with my big big luggage. After that I went to FSH and was shown a Birkins immediately. The next day I went to the sales venue again, this time the stock was very limited. The next morning I went to the airport to pick up my "ill but recovered" friend. She purposely flew over after she knew that I have managed to get a Birkin. When we went to FSH on Friday morning when the shop just opened, there was no Birkin at all. We met a friend too. We decide to come back to FSH at 2p.m after Chanel shopping, we still saw the friend there who was waiting in FSH all the while. She waited for about 4.5 hours. When we return at 2p.m there is still no sight of Birkin, we shop around in the shop, then we ask the Salesperson from the Jewellery department, he then brought us 2 Birkins 40 - gold & black to choose from. I think the shipment just arrived. When we went to the cashier, we saw the friend looking at Prune 35 Clemence, another customer looking at Black 35.

From my recent experience, I think it would be easier to score in the afternoon. I did went to George V, but I guess they are much smaller and the SA told me confidently they will not be receiving any Birkin for the rest of the day.

Overall, I am glad that I did went to Paris for a very very fruitful trip. It will remain a memorable trip for me as I gotten my first H and Birkins in Paris.

Thank you for all those who have encouraged me, I may not be able to make it without your encouragement.

Thus the answer to "Is it worth the time to fly all the way to Paris for first Hermes?" is definitely a "YES"!
