Is anyone else shopping out of fear/stress of prices increasing?

Enough is enough…
If the brands keep increasing their already enormous prices it’s because they know their loyal customers will continue to buy their bags whatever the cost.
Personally, even if I still love them, I have decided to stay away from them.
There are far less expensive good quality brands everywhere to keep me satisfied.
As Mcaldwell said in the previous post, Ferragamo is one of them.

price increase happens—this is to be expected especially during this year.

just a few thoughts, don’t shoot me:

1. with commodities/raw material going up, those who are in the business of manufacturing goods, whether it’s luxury or every day staples, have to adjust their prices to keep the profit they are used to, as well as paying their suppliers and human capital. The buck is always passed to the consumer.

2. for the companies that still charge $398 for a bag now when it charged $398 for that bag two years ago, probably made the adjustment via quality and not the price. Eg they gave you a bag made for x that would cost $298 and passes it off as $398. It could be the process in which they dye their leather, the thickness or texture/finish, or even the piece of the hide (it’s like sashimi in a way I would imagine if I ate sushi beyond California roll and spicy tuna of the sorts). So the price has increased you just aren’t aware of it.

3. Anytime I speak to someone who grew up outside of US I’m instantly humbled. Here if the car is getting old, we can just go out and get another one (well maybe not as easy now but you know what I mean). Almost anywhere else in the world? You’d repair it. The abundance of goods we have in of itself is a luxury.

now that’s not to say I’m for hiking of prices all willynilly for no reason and I’m happy to continue to pay through the nose.

but I understand this time is a bit different and its why I’m all for supporting small businesses so there’s disruption and competition is always good for the consumer aka me.

Agree that this is the time to perhaps find other options if designer prices are out of your
realm of "value" which many of us are sensing & seeing.
For all the loyal customers (old as well as new) & for the "huge profits" made prior to Covid
now is the time to keep your pricing where it should be to show appreciation for the
continued business. Quality, workmanship has been declining but in spite of that, buying
continues
There are many small businesses that given the opportunity will cultivate clients that
have taste, style & know what quality is without sky high pricing, JMO

I understand the desire to purchase things because you don't want to miss out on the low price. I hate saving for something and then seeing a big price jump, that feels really unfair. But for the most part, my "Pandemic shopping" has been limited to jewelry and a few cardigans. I'm not going in to an office where clothes matter so much, and we aren't going out like we used to. If anything, I think I am buying way less. I've completely abandoned bags right now. I have a decent collection (a range of styles for pretty much every kind of need), and I'm not using any of them, but I do put jewelry on every day.

Happy New Year friends! When I originally started this thread- I think it was Chanel’s first increase of 2021 and now I think it just had its fourth. Going into 2022, I hear that there will be yet another increase. I purchased my last Chanel bag in July and I think that is it for me. I just cannot deal with their insane increases.

I have made other lux purchases this year and switched it up to jewelry for the most part. Cartier and VCA have had some increases but nothing insane.

The handbag market is definitely making more increases and with the lines at almost all boutiques, I am seeing just as many folks waiting in lines with no decrease. So even with these increases, people are shopping.

Thank you for sharing all your thoughts and keep posting! It’s been a relief especially during these past couple of years!

I hope 2022 brings you all your lux shopping with good health and prosperity:heart:

This year will also be my last year buy Chanel. Their prices for classic flaps especially just doesn't make sense with the quality they're pushing them out in. It's unfortunate but at least i can close my handbag chapter and start on jewelry and watches!

I have been kind of bad the last year and a half with luxury purchases. I need to cool it though, we are about to buy another house, so I want to scrape some extra cash together for that.

I wasn’t so much buying due to the possible price increases, I think I was doing it because we had extra cash around due to not traveling much.

For me, I kick myself when I look back at something that I really wanted to buy, leave it in my cart for a while and then it sells out OR the prices have gone up since I wanted to buy it when I finally decide to buy it. I can't justify buying a new Chanel anymore, but for the price of one new Chanel, I can still buy several Louis! lol. If it's not breaking your bank and it makes you happy, then go for it!

I have seen prices go up, even in the secondary market. But with patience, good values in the secondary market can be found, so I'm waiting for some overpriced new pieces (I'm talking to you: Gucci, Christofle and Bottega Veneta) to reach the resale market.
