Influencers and Hermes

Hey, I’m right there with ya! :ghi5: (although considering the way the medical industry has changed over the last decade or so, Dentistry is actually preferable to go into now, but that‘s another topic :shrugs:)

I never had the patience for YT videos (maybe it’s a generational thing? A few years ago my SA suggested that I should make some, to which I exclaimed, “WHY would I want to do THAT???”). Many seem to be made by people who think they know something, having been a client for a year, or five years, but tbh they don’t know very much (and what they do know, they probably got from the fabulous people here:yw:). Having essentially the same information, they have nothing substantial to provide, so eventually it’s unsustainable (hence, the clickbait). I have the opposite problem: great ideas, no time to work on them. Fortunately I am surrounded by very supportive and patient people. Moreover, whatever I do, I do because I genuinely enjoy it (mostly because of the many amazing people and friendships I’ve made over the years through collecting), so there’s no pressure to churn out content: a lot of what I do, I would do for myself, anyway, so why not share it?**

I think that if you have good content, there will always be a place for you. And as someone mentioned above, people do much better when they are just themselves (I don’t take any of this - or myself - seriously, and I personally prefer those who keep these things in perspective). There are great people, too, some of whom have been mentioned here (I’ve known MaiTai for many years and she’s a fabulous lady :hbeat: ).

** The answer to why not is, of course, the people who have used my material without credit, including one oft-mentioned person who has plagiarized my work numerous times.
I agree with you, and we are lucky to have you here! So glad you do what you do, and always enjoy your posts, articles and color info!! MaiTai was always lovely to watch - she has such style and grace. And buying things from her shop over the years has always been a pleasure, and she’s so lovely to work with. How nice to be long time friends with her. :flowers:

I very recently signed into Instagram just to keeping up with new trends, and to have a look at different H bags color combination.
I find myself now following the big brands official accounts, very few LV and H lovers’ accounts and mostly vintage jewelry reseller  which is a total new world to me!
The H influencers I saw were almost nauseating for me, it was just a constant showing off of new things with no real use of it.
Not to mention Mr Coste instagram, I may be the minority but the only thing I enjoy about his account are the flower arrangements.
I’d like to see ordinary people enjoying their Hermes on a daily basis, no matter their job or income, rather than looking at people all dressed in costly “uniform” (is it all Oran sandals-Cartier love bangle-VCA bracelet combo right now?), botoxed gone wrong and lip injections faces who just show off their acquisition but are not dissimilar to serial hoarders, it is just more costly.
Sorry for the rant

I’m not a huge fan of his IG account either, but the one thing I will say about Mr Coste is that at the very least he occasionally does work the floor at Fbg. When I was there with my husband last year, he was with the SAs and management when the doors opened first thing in the morning to greet the clients with appointments. He was helping the couple in the room next to me, going back and forth to get boxes, and he did stop and chat with everyone who wanted to meet him.

I think people who go into detail about a new (or old!) piece that they totally love and are thrilled with is more interesting and often much more informative than someone who just got a whole bunch of items (this is actually a great reminder for me to go more in depth about older pieces which I love and use all the time).

As a (very side!!!) side note, their flower arrangements are indeed fabulous and I believe they use a company called Chauvin (chauvinparis.com).

I stopped following these people---> Dressing up in the most expensive patek watch, in a stack of full pave love bangles, Panthere rings, and leather goods all in exotic crocodile, plus dress in full logo head to toe. I dont understand how they think that's fashionable. People nowadays equate wealthy=fashionable. And like you mentioned, "Hello Doc, gone wrong" plastic faces lol

AS for Mr Coste, i actually like his sense of humor. He has some funny videos.

This is so spot on. It seems that some luxury fashion followers equate stacks of diamond Cartier, vca and bulgari bangles and rings etc, along with head to toe Chanel or H Rtw and croc bags to be the epitome of fashion. This is not fashion. These people are walking billboards for the brands. They have no identity or ability to distinguish their fashion from others. Often they are fashion victims.

I will add that one of my favorite influencers is bycamelia. I love her unique style and she doesn’t go crazy with the brands in photos. When you see her profile, you see her not the brands. When I see other profiles and you know who I’m talking about, all I see is the brands. I’ve seen enough Himalayans and pave Cartier and vca and bulgari and Patek to last me a lifetime. No thanks.

I will add that most often the profiles that do this seem like they’re just mimicking the other luxury profiles or posting what they think the wealthy ought to exude or how they live. But reality is most wealthy aren’t wearing stacks of diamond jewelry and Rtw from the fashion houses. They often look very ordinary especially in the US. Just take a look at Jennifer gates, Nikki Hilton, Jessica Springsteen or Georgina Bloomberg’s profiles on ig.

So, Bryanboy gets a Kellydole Picto around the 17th of July

IMG_5425.jpg

Goes to Ibiza in August and has his luggage stolen, including the Kellydole Picto he just unboxed a month earlier

IMG_5421.jpg

Goes to Paris fashion week, has lunch with Michael Coste

IMG_5429.jpg

Gets a new Kellydole Picto in dark blue with croc back pocket, an even rarer bag compared to his stolen one (regular Kellydole Pictos usually have the epsom detachable back pocket)

Fascinating. :D

Maybe I need to have one of my bags "stolen" at an airport before my next visit to Paris :graucho:

It's kinda like how Tamara got robbed and everyone knew about it. She then got replacement bags left and right since then. It's horrible what happened to them, but I am sure they mentioned that to the SA too.

"ohhhhh I was robbed and all my bags are gone" story.

Came across a fun (old) shopping vlog from Jaime Xie with 4 QB offers in one trip.

I love her. Shes the real VIP. Not trying hard like the rest of them on instagram. They offered her top tier colors in desirability. She and her family probably spends 6 figures each time on a regualr Hermes visit.

I have watched her videos and feel like she is too deadpan for me. I have to fast forward through her videos. There’s no facial expressions or excitement. I’m not saying I want to hear squeals but she’s just so emotionless and I don’t know that her style is all that unique? She’s like every other influencer out there. Nothing really standout.

I love her too! She has a really nice style, I love her showing how she picks her outfits and her confidence. I also love how she isn’t over the top with anything, it’s all in her stride. Just “yeah that’s cute” “nah I’m not so into that”. I don’t feel like she’s putting on an act for viewers. Jamie fan club right here!!

Most of them are just incredibly annoying. The loud squeals or misleading clickbait video titles or very annoying surprised face video shots are like nails on chalkboard.

You are hard to please!
