Influencers and Hermes

Edit to add: Does anyone have any cool new Hermes YouTubers/IG influencers they'd like to share with the group (regardless of their background)? I'm getting into scarves lately - would love to see more scarf styling videos.
I dont watch anyone on YT, but I follow scarflookbook on IG  She goes through different colors, what works and what doesn't for her closet, different ways to tie, etc.

The whole thing with Ms Faubourg makes me extremely sad. I have been following her through the Pandemic. She had a niche that NO one else was doing. She showed the behind the scenes at FHS. Maybe new products that wasn’t available in the US or online. Even just a little picture of FHS in the morning before the customers arrive or photos of new decorations make most of us happy. I was excited and always looked forward to her posts. Like many of you, I noticed a change last year.

It wasn’t about Hermes anymore, but her account started to shift toward HER and the need to be a prominent face of FHS (like Michael Coste). There was more dance videos inside FHS, and less contents about Hermes and the store itself. She should have continued to show more Hermes products, and the store. Instead of dance videos, maybe a quick interviews with other SAs would have been fun. Give us that fantasy and accessibility that we don’t often get to see. I would have loved to watch that. Imagine a weekly chat with diff SA from diff department. What’s new? What’s next? What’s exciting?

I saw a missed opportunity, and I quickly lost interest. People were kissing up to her regardless of what she posts and that may got to her head. She didn’t have a vision for her brand and kept doing what she thought was good contents because people were eating it up. No one was telling her to stop, and everyone were encouraging the dance videos. She then started to dip her toes in the influencing world and befriended many many “D list” influencers. We all saw those cringy meet and greet at FHS. On one hand, we have Michael Coste who welcomes celebrities and the socialites. Don’t get me wrong, he loves the attentions too but he is very careful about what he shares. There was still an illusion and mysterious aspect when it comes to his page. On the other, Melissa opened the flood gate to all, such as Erica and Mitch and whoever else. Sure, SA should be able to welcome their friends, but if these friends exploits the experience, it cheapens the fantasy for everyone else.
Can you imagine how cool it would have been if Melissa does it Gossip Girl style? Never show her face , and just be a mysterious fairy at FHS like she did at the beginning of the pandemic.

As a TikTok “microinfluencer” married to something worse than a low specialty doctor, a *gasp* DENTIST, this thread has me in stitches.

Hahaha and don’t let them find out i’m a nurse in my 20s that buys Hermès. They’ll have a stroke trying to figure that out!

I must be one of the only people in this thread that can actually separate the Hermès content from an influencer’s personal life. I usually just watch to see the bait, the bags, and hear the story of how they got it. Digging into their personal life and watching their pockets is just too much! Why are people getting so stressed about other people they don’t even know in real life? Lol

Personally my favorite influencers/micro-influencers at the moment are: hermes bonbon/insta, haya glamazon/YT, Tiwadidthat/YT & insta, thehermesclub/insta, jacira isabel/YT & insta.

Jacira is a favorite of mine and Tiwadidthat cracks me up.

@justaregularwhitegirl you were actually one of the people I had in mind with my above post. Love your content on TT. Every time I've gotten a QB since you got your Birkin, I joke in my head "I won capitalism!" Always thought you should merch that

I really enjoy your content! You're one of the few I consistently check-in with on tiktok. That diamond pigeon charm is now consistently in the back of my mind. I love small animal charms and food charms. Are you familiar with Mociun? They have some of the most beautiful charms I've ever seen.

I love your TikToks! We live in the same city and perhaps I hadn't looking in the right places for local luxury-adjacent content, but yours was the first I've found that I've really enjoyed. Definitely here for your "lifestyle" content and not just the H - you and your husband crack me up!

Thank you! I love their stuff but I try not to look too much because the prices are wild!

Agree. I had memory-holed them until the pigeon.
(Diamond encrusted pizza + diamond pigeon charm + Catbird rat charm with diamonds for eyes = NYC charm trifecta)

I guess to keep things on topic, there was an interesting article in Rolling Stone recently about one of the first people who started what we now see as influencing, "She Invented Being an Influencer — And Was Vilified for It." There seems to something to how certain people react to others who weren't given permission through what are perceived as traditional channels to have power, which is what influence is ultimately a form of. Who they need to be given permission by is an interesting question and I'm sure varies depending on who you ask, although I have my ideas.

Hermes, as long as it is a status symbol, I'm sure will remain caught up in this. I'd be interested to see how influencers level the brand recognition of say, Chanel, LV, or Dior, versus Hermes and what they means for who they are trying to advertise to and why.

Hey, I’m right there with ya! :ghi5: (although considering the way the medical industry has changed over the last decade or so, Dentistry is actually preferable to go into now, but that‘s another topic :shrugs:)

I never had the patience for YT videos (maybe it’s a generational thing? A few years ago my SA suggested that I should make some, to which I exclaimed, “WHY would I want to do THAT???”). Many seem to be made by people who think they know something, having been a client for a year, or five years, but tbh they don’t know very much (and what they do know, they probably got from the fabulous people here:yw:). Having essentially the same information, they have nothing substantial to provide, so eventually it’s unsustainable (hence, the clickbait). I have the opposite problem: great ideas, no time to work on them. Fortunately I am surrounded by very supportive and patient people. Moreover, whatever I do, I do because I genuinely enjoy it (mostly because of the many amazing people and friendships I’ve made over the years through collecting), so there’s no pressure to churn out content: a lot of what I do, I would do for myself, anyway, so why not share it?**

I think that if you have good content, there will always be a place for you. And as someone mentioned above, people do much better when they are just themselves (I don’t take any of this - or myself - seriously, and I personally prefer those who keep these things in perspective). There are great people, too, some of whom have been mentioned here (I’ve known MaiTai for many years and she’s a fabulous lady :hbeat: ).

** The answer to why not is, of course, the people who have used my material without credit, including one oft-mentioned person who has plagiarized my work numerous times.
