I was just wondering what kind if commission do Chanel SA receive?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

are you sure? That's a lot of money for working as an SA.

Yes. Million Dollar club means they sold more than a Million in sales after returns. annually
Women's shoes too.

These positions are very hard to come by and those that take it seriously as a career , do well.
Very well.

When I was there I was ranked #4 in the store but it is a very competitive environment and there is a lot of backstabbing among associates (not all). I earned every cent I made though. There were weeks I had a great paycheck (my largest was $3000+) but there were weeks that because of returns and slow sales my paycheck was $80. I responded to texts and emails at all hours, and went in on my days off. That was before I got married and the reason I left. I knew I couldn't have a family and take care of my clients at the same time. Also each department has its own commission rate. RTW was 6% as well if I remember correctly :-)

so are you saying your salary was only commission? no base salary? so how much would make monthly rougly a sales associate at saks in New York for example? what is your realistic guess? thanks!

I<3Coco, from what you stated, it's tough to be an SA!!!

My Neiman SA is really nice and she responds to texts on days that she's off too! And I can totally imagine the backstabbing!

I sort of guess there will be back stabbing. Not everyone wants to play nice in the sandbox
But that is a very very stressful environment to be an SA. That means u r really working 24/7. If u take a day off u potentially lose a sale !?!?

So can I ask is ur SA nice to everyone? Or u feel more hurried and sometimes she might push a sale on u?? Because the pressure the SA put herself under to be in the million dollar club?

It is really only commission...they call it a draw system but that's because you have to make a certain amount of sales each week to make your commission. I for example I had to sell at least $5000 each week to make my commission which doesn't seem like a lot but I worked there before the last price increase. With the system we were on it also meant you really weren't making money unless you got over that...you also have taxes and insurance etc. On a good month after taxes I could bring home $4000. There were also months with returns I could bring home $400. NYC is such a different store but I would imagine if they were good $5000+ a month. However the competitive environment is brutal.

Possibly. When I was there I was lucky enough to have a manager I could call that would ring things up for me or put names on the reserve list, but yes you can lose sales by being off. SA's are supposed to develop a relationship with you so you shop with them. Some get very territorial though and can make it uncomfortable for clients if they shop with someone else, which isn't how it should be.

Very interesting! How fast would you receive commission after a sale? If someone buys something but returns it in 2 weeks would your next paycheck see the loss? Also, do they detail what the commission is for or the loss from commission? I always feel terrible returning anything but it unfortunately has happened.

At Saks we got paid every week but the paychecks were always a week behind in terms of the commission so for instance, if I had a great week this week I would get that paycheck next week. Make sense? And if there is a return it comes off of the commission for the week it is returned. So say someone has sold $5000 one week and has a $5000 return that same week...They are at zero which in the draw system means that they are at a deficit of $400. This means that the next week in addition to the $5000 they normally have to sell for the week, they also have to sell an additional $5000 to get out of a deficit. Here's the thing though. I always told my clients NEVER feel bad about returning something if it doesn't work for you. Everyone who signs up for the job knows what they're getting into. You're either made for it or you're not and returns go with the territory. Now if you have a relationship or respect the SA that you're returning the item on and are going to buy something else, even if it's a lipgloss the polite thing is to let them sell it to you (unless they are completely rude about the return). A great SA is never going to make you feel guilty and is never going to pressure you into a sale, NOR will they breathe down your neck the entire time you're in the store. Desperation is not an attractive quality in an SA....attentiveness is. The thing to remember about commission is that it is EARNED...those who backstab and are dishonest, and not helpful to their clients--it all comes around. When I worked there especially with Chanel, I always made sure that bags were packaged as perfectly as I could get them, and tried to throw in some perfume samples when I could. When someone is paying the prices they do for Chanel, they expect great customer service and the great SAs will give it to them :)

Sounds like you were the type of SA I would love to have now!

Awww thanks! I just got out of it 2 years ago because I was getting married and couldn't take working 24/7 anymore. I loved my clients though and it was hard for me to leave them, but I don't miss the drama of the other SAs. Now I have an SA friend there that keeps my Chanel obsession fueled :-)
