Something I don't understand is if the system records all transactions, why cannot the SA pull up the sale when something is returned without a recept and verify the sale and price. I would think one of the reasons for taking personal information for the sale would be to verify the sale if needed. I know other stores do this. When I shop at Talbots the SA can pull up transactions from my name, so even if something turns out not to be on the receipt they can verify it.

-purchases. not transactions. can only be pulled up via computer by a sales associate, etc IF during or after depending what state you're in, the cashier takes down your info during the purchase. sometimes sliding that card will bring up your record anyways if used often enough and prior to that your information was entered.
even then they can only see where, when and how much. they do not serve as receipts because to return something for money back it has to be returned in the method paid. since the computer doesn't show that, they cannot use that as a receipt and put xxx back into the visa-MasterCard-Amex-so forth. if it was paid with cash, same thing unfortunately. only the original receipts show method of payment. not even gift receipts show this that's why original receipts are so important if you want to return/exchange

I don't necessary agree with the letter and I obviously wouldn't care to get one but I know if I got banned I would want to know why. if the person or company's reasoning is sound, I guess I'm banned? if it's unsound and they're not willing to admit they're wrong, I would still be banned? and if by some chance they actually were willing to admit their err (if they're actually wrong) then okay.
Whenever it comes to something where it's a matter of them losing money when they ban you I say don't sweat it. just imho

13000 is the highest i've seen. usually they average around $5000-10,000~

i cant figure out how return equals reseller. in other stores (target) it means theft. ie:when i returned many things after a baby shower and before gift receipts (10 yrs ago), i was banned from returning anything to target for 2 years. i had ID but at that point they had no way of keeping record. so if i am returning, i am still getting a merch. credit only so i am still again buying things at your store...not selling
i'm not banned. it just stated that i can't return w/out receipts anymore. which is fine because i only return w/out receipts when neccessary. and it's only been 3 times. two items were gifts and the other items the SA remembered me purchasing.
i don't think i even had 13000 in all of my bags totalled much less in coach alone. oh well..
yes italiahaircolor- i've scaled back ALOT. i returned anything that was unused and sat there for months, and i sold alot and traded alot. but i definately didn't return everything i owned!
yeah. the letter says they'd like to hear from me to figure things out. i'm gonna call them monday morning.$13000?! No way! I would be demanding proof from Coach about that amount.
i've actually found receipts for all but 2 things i returned so i'm gonna fax it to them too!
