I am... Materialistic!?!

I have been called that too by my HR Director. We were out for dinner and I have my bag (a LV epi bag) and all of a sudden she turned to a fellow HR manager, saying "(My name) is the kind of girl you should never marry. Going after designer stuff."

*Gasp* How dare anyone open their mouth and say that!

I'm admittedly materialistic, and I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I like nice things. So what?

My boyfriend likes video games, I like bags. He likes to have beers with the guys... I like to shop with the girls. The amount he spends on video games and drinks and pub food probably equates to my shopping habits....

I think that it's none of anyone's business how you spend your money if you're responsible in every other aspect of your life.

I think anyone who takes pleasure from owning material things is materialistic... so yeah, of course we all are. But who cares? Life is too short for us not to do what makes us happy, especially if our actions are not hurting anyone else.

You know, I don’t think being called materialistic is all that bad :shrugs:

don’t sweat the small stuff, as others said, being called cheap would be worse. Personally I have always liked nice homes, cars, clothes and accessories, they are all material things… even little kids writing long letters to Santa are asking for a lot of material things.. the important thing is to cultivate other aspects in one’s life and to work hard to achieve one’s dreams. In your sister’s case she worked hard at asking your parents for a new LV :lawl:

I agree! This is so me! I enjoy interior decorating, nice cars, etc too... Being surrounded by nice things makes me happy and enjoy life. It doesn't mean that we don't also enjoy other things like time spent with family and friends. I love eating too... I guess I'm a glut then lol...

If you can afford it and not collecting debt, you can and shall continue to do as you please with your money. She has no right to judge you. She is yor sister, hopefully she'll come around cuz nothing is thicker than blood :)

You collect and care about your clothes and Designer labels and material things so whats wrong with that? Everyone has different material items they are interested in and collect like boats, cars and jewelry and why are they not called materialistic too? I don't think there is anything wrong with that statement because at least at some level "I am a Material Girl".

Brush it off and don't stress about it if you can. I'd hate to lose a good relationship with my sister over some LV accessories. She may be a bit jealous or perhaps just concerned about you. I don't know for sure. If your relationship with her is positive with the exception of this incident, I don't think it's worth creating any hostility over. :hugs:

Really good advice.

It doesn't matter what happens, it matters what you do next.
