It started with this bag. Even though I don't carry her anymore, I still love her dearly

I remember her. I loved her a lot too. I remembered scoring her after bonus was paid out many years ago. But I took her for granted in the presence of more handsome and eligible trophies as I outgrew her. Until 2 years ago, I would keep her company on some weekends. She had aged terribly with age spots and discolorations.
Not to make any excuses... I had to abandon her in Salvation Army after I got pregnant and had to downsize my collection to make space for diaper bags and baby stuff... Feel a little nostalgic as I see her likeness ... she was so pretty and perky then... :crybaby:

it was started when i'm looking for a vintage louis vuitton. i loved when it's honey patina and i can't get that fast with a new one.
so i submitted on ebay and that's how it all started...
EBAY is the cause of my bag addiction :p

Oh gosh...now you'll all know my age when I tell you my story...When I was 15, the liz claiborne handled satchel came out, you know the ones that had the bumpy logo all over it? I had the pink one - I think I still have it. It was $75 and i still remember saving forever for it! Then I had to "upgrade" to a Dooney and Bourke all weather leather draw string shoulder bag - I was sooo proud of that bag, I still have it, now i think it's considered vintage...the obsession has skyrocketed from there.

Needanotherbag, we must be twins! I also had that Liz Claiborne satchel with the logo on it when I was a HS freshman. At that time, fake Gucci was big at my high school, but even then I preferred real LC (and being different from everyone else) to fake Gucci. My 1st real designer bag was a Gucci shoulder bag I got on a senior trip to Europe (my friends had moved on to fake LV speedies), however my 2nd designer bag was the Dooney & Bourke all weather leather drawstring shoulder bag in black that I got right before I started college!

I discovered Coach after college. I still love Coach, but I bought 1-2 Coach bags per year for 8 years! I hardly branched out at all until I bought my first LV in June 2004. Now my collection includes (besides Coach & LV) Marc Jacobs, Kooba, Botkier, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu. I love this forum, although it's been bad for my wallet!

I'm 25 now and my designer bag addiction started by when I got my first designer bag for my 20th birthday from my bf. His one friend is addicted to designer bags and he was trying to figure out what he should get me and she suggested a designer bag. So I got my first Prada hobo from him 5 years ago and ever since then, I wouldn't buy anything but designers.

When I was a teenager I was very insecure about my body, but I still loved shopping SO I bought bags instead of clothes because they didn't have to "fit". I could just buy whatever bag I liked and not worry about the size or shape. And now though Im over my teens and love shopping clothes, Im still a total bagho. :D

Mine started in high school, when all my friends and classmates started to tell me that I was overprotective of my bags and bought new ones all the time. And I was one of the only lil high schoolers to carry a real LV at my school. People apparently thought I was crazy. And then I realized that I was...

i have no real explanation for mine :shrugs:

my addiction only REALLY started about a year ago. before that i loved Guess bags. i got my very first designer bag -- a Dior -- and very first Louis Vuitton, two years ago, and after that i occasionally bought more Dior, some Burberry, Gucci, Fendi and Louis Vuitton. after i bought an LV Denim Neo-Speedy last Thanksgiving i was suddenly obsessed with bags, and i started buying more and more, which is how i ended up with more bags than i ever need/use :shame:!

I was just wondering if how other's bag addiction got started?

well for me, for the designer bags, it got started last december after my boyfriend's sister-in-law asked to sniff the hype leather bag that I just bought and then, went on to brag to me about her LV bag and wallet.. after that, I got so pissed off, bought my LV, a Ferragamo, and since then, I haven't stopped buying designer bags (have 18 now since January of this year) just to tell her that she ain''t better than me.. but the more bags I buy, the more I realize I really like the bags and I am no longer buying them just to be better than her.. so I guess, that's kind off a redemption for me.. coz it is really me, although of course, she got me started...

now, let's hear your stories...

I've had a handbag fetish since I was 12. I'd save up my allowance and then get a new handbag :shame: As for designer bags my first was a cute little prada bag, then the Mc speedy(its jessica's fault) caught my eye and that got me into louis vuitton.

I've always loved fashion, clothes and shoes especially, but didn't really get into bags that much. Sure, I had the Liz Claiborne triangle logo bag in high school/college (oh so cool in grey and black) and then my first D&B (all weather leather) a few years into my working years but I didn't really obsess too much. A bag was a bag - no big deal.

Then I got into nylon Prada and that's when the momentum started and I realized, wow, a really great bag makes an outfit (duh!)!!

Now it's hopeless. You guys corrupted me into LV and just recently my first Chloe. And I couldn't be happier. :wlae:

I blame my grandparents on my dad's side. They got me my first purse when I was about 10/11 years old. Since then, the obsession has grown and grown. Though I would say it really started growing about 3 years ago-the beginning of my freshman year of high school.

My designer obsession is still in the baby stages- and I blame this forum. :D

I have always enjoyed having many bags. It's only been since I got in my 40's that I started buying better bags. Before that time, I usually bought from JC Penney's or maybe Liz Clairbourne.

Then, after my kids were grown, I was able to afford more. I started into the Dooney and Bourke and Coach bags. I bought them for several years and then I found this board from the QVC Forum and the rest is history.

Now, I have been buying designer bags new and used and I'm always on the hunt for me. I think about them daily now. It's a passion now and I really enjoy it. I don't have any grandkids yet and it's probably a good thing because I'm spending my money on bags now.

Neat thread.

I think mine started when I walked in the Louis Vuitton store here in Chicago. I was literally hooked after that. I instantly went back to the store 3 days later and bought another LV purse. I never really had a bag addiction until now. Before I would buy a Coach purse here and there...but nothing more than that.

Now I am buying $2K purses like every two weeks.... Im SERIOUSLY addicted.

I lost some weight a couple of months ago and decided to buy a designer bag as a reward. I live in Japan where designer bags are everywhere, I never really cared for them, thought it would crazy to spend so much $$$ on a bag.
So I purchased a copy of "Brand Joy" (a popular brand name item magazine in Japan) to find a bag I like. I was thinking Chanel or LV but then I saw the "IT" bags and fell instantly in love. To be honest, 3 months ago I didn't know what "Paddington" or "Balenciaga" was:rolleyes:
My first purchase was a Balenciaga City in Pale rose; within 3 weeks I bought a creme Chole Paddington. I think the second purchase has a lot to do with this web site. I came on this site to have my City authenticated and have been here ever since. Under the influence of my fellow TPF members, I'm now spending every waking moment of my life planning my bag purchases:push:
