How To work for Louis Vuitton...

One of my co-workers used to work for LV and hated it. He also said that he felt ostracized for being the youngest SA there, he was 26 at the time.

I work for a higher end store and while we have applications, we request that applicants bring in a resume. First and foremost, if you do not have enough experience to make a one page resume, you probably don't have enough experience to work in our store. For scheduling purposes, we prefer someone who is finished with their college education. We also prefer paper resumes because it gives a clue as to someone's writing skills... as a SA, you have to draft notes for your client list all the time.

First impressions count in retail... applicants that come in shorts or flip flops and lazily ask if we're hiring don't receive as warm of a reception as someone that is first to say "Hi" and become incredibly personable within seconds. Likewise, I know we look for someone that comes across as a good employee-- not a customer that wants the discount! At my last company, I told this one girl to not even bother bringing back her application because after talking to her about hiring, she shopped around and trashed the fitting room by leaving 10 or so dresses on the floor! It's like, if you can't hang up your own mess, how competent will you be dealing with others?!

^^ I hate customers like that! I have never worked high-end retail, but did management at a huge youth-oriented clothing chain. What I hated most were the rude parents that asked for apps for their kids. Ummm.... how about you let them ask?

At any rate... I posted this about 2 years ago--an ad from our local paper--and I haven't seen them run any since, but I think the candidate requirements probably still are applicable. I wouldn't mind a summer job with LV, but I don't think our shops are hiring.

OMG. The best is when parents call to follow-up on their offspring's apps! :roflmfao: Like seriously?!

I remember this one lady, she was so so so rude and just awful anyways (we are not Nordstrom, we don't take used merchandise back and she obviously wore these velvet pants for Holiday parties and then tried to return them by blaming our seamstress claiming that the pants were too short 3 months later...) and she would just turn to her son at random moments and say, "You need to work here. They'll hire you." and then turn to us and basically demand we give the kid a job. She wasn't THAT good of a client and how rude was it to imply that we would hire someone unqualified?

Hello everyone!

So, it's about that time to get a job. I've been thinking of places I would like to work and I realized that if I worked in a place I loved, I would love work! That's what led me to Louis Vuitton. I could totally see myself working there. I love working with people, I love the products, and I love the atmosphere. Perfect. Problem is, I've been searching for two days online trying to figure out how I can apply or submit a resume, and I haven't come up with much. Their HR site has listings for management positions, and I'm beginning to think that they fill sales positions before they even list them on the site.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Anyone been through this that can point me in any direction? I live in downtown Chicago, so I have roughly three LV's to choose from. Any help is MUCH appreciated! Thanks in advance, you guys are the best!

First, do you have extensive retail experience? With about 3-5 years in luxury retail (* Burberry, Ralph Lauren, NM, Chanel)? Can you speak more than one language?

When I've looked at their HR page, that seems to be their standard for SAs. If you think that you meet or exceed their qualifications then I would print my resume and cover letter and bring it in person, with a friendly demeanor. They'll file it until they have an opening and I would also see about having your resume on file regardless with HR.

I agree. I think that you would have to have the ULTIMATE experience in retail in order to be considered

I do speak more than one language, although I don't know how beneficial my second language is. I lived in Canada for thirteen years, so I have basic knowledge of French, and I speak Arabic fluently. That is of course after English, which is my mother tongue.

As for retail experience, I worked at Apple for a while, which I know is a little bit different, but it's still expensive computers and stuff being sold. I have tons of work experience, I was the billing manager for a doctor's office and a dental assistant for another. I also managed a Coldstone Creamery. I know none of it really applies, but I have a really diverse history of employment and I'm hoping that helps me a little.

I completely forgot there was one in water tower! That gives me roughly 4 boutiques I can apply to.

Any more advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Maybe you should start by calling the 866 number to inquire, or ask @ Nordstrom, since they usually have better personalities.

Also, it might be beneficial to apply to other luxury stores such as Coach, Nordstrom, Neiman, Saks, Bloomies, Burberry, etc. in hopes to get a job @ LV in a few years!

You could be our fav. SA!

My friends work at LV, and I always tell them that if they need anyone, I would totally work there. They told me that they don't ever "hire" anyone. Which means they don't just take applications and call you for an interview. They're really selective. It's also not as glamorous as you think it is. It's a lot of standing around and waiting.

I say go for it, call and ask to speak to a manager and inquire about any openings and how to apply. You speak 3 languages that is great!!!!! Also apply to Prada and Hermes, shoot Gucci too. Tell us where you work or pm and I will drive up and visit. I use to live in the Chi. Take care.

my friends aunt works at the one in KOP mall, i applied, but no luck

when i picked up an application i asked if i needed luxury retail experience, she said no, but i think that was the reason i wasn't hired. i had no experience, except for my love of LV, I'm even majoring in fashion design.....no help either.
