Scarves How to Wear a 90cm Carre/Silk Twill Casually?

Now you have the chou-chou strand. As you can see, you have two “wings” or scarf points floating around up there.

Step 4: Arrange these “wings” as you like. Maybe you want to keep them as is. Maybe you want to pull them so they “wrap” around the scarf length. Either works.

Here’s your chou-chou knot, ready to tie.

Step 5: Tie around your neck. There are many ways to do this (see chou-chou alternatives below). Here, I wrapped the ends around my neck to the front, then did a little knot underneath the chou-chou. That way I didn’t have ends hanging around anywhere.

These step by step instructions are amazing! Thanks for taking the time to write such a helpful, detailed post. Bookmarked!!!

I am a fan of your magnets trick and I have just received some from ebay last week :-)) Thank you !!

Thank you, lyseiki! I can't claim credit for the magnets trick... I learned about it from MaiTai's blog. But it certainly does work nicely, doesn't it?:smile1:

Yesterday I used two sets of magnets to wear my Circus scarf with a Breton striped top and one of MaiTai's shawl rings instead of a knot at the shoulder, just to make it a bit less bulky. It worked perfectly... the scarf didn't budge!

P.S. For anyone who isn't familiar with the scarf, there is a ton of gold & silver metallic paint on it. Here are two close-ups. Isn't the expression on the lion's face too sweet for words?;)

I also love the magnet trick too! I should try that because my scarf always end up in a mess as soon as I step out of the house :p
lyseiki8 and Elaine, can you please post or PM me which seller did you get your magnets from? Thanks!

Hello Lovers of the Challenging 90cm silks!

I've been over at the Fall 2014 thread, where I was showing off some new-to-me knots that have me over the moon about 90cm twills again. For a long, long time, I haven't worn them, so I understand how challenging they can feel. A good knot is a gem. I was asked to give some tutorials, and a scarf suggested I post it here.

I have five knots in total to share over the next couple of weeks (it takes time to do the photography!). I'm starting with the simplest, which also has the most variants. You really can't do this scarf knot wrong. And if you can, then just start over again and it will come out different.

Le Knot Chou-chou (image 1)

Step 1: Lay out scarf like a diagonal, face side down.

Step 2: Take two opposite ends (doesn’t matter which ones). Do a simple half knot.

Step 3: Pull these knot ends in the direction of the other (non-knotted) ends of the scarf.

Arabesques:flowers:Thank you so much for taking these pictures. It is very time consuming to take selfies. I must try this knot out!! :flowers:

Scarfies - I have been trying to upload new pics for days and keep getting a pop-up box that says Upload Fail - this is not a valid image file. Anybody else? I get the same message whether I'm on my phone or iPad. I'm taking pics with my iPhone6S like I always have? I'm so confused?? :confused1:

Are they too big? I've yet to get the phone, but I understand it has a bigger picture file.

Arabesques - thank you so much for posting instructions! :worthy::worthy::worthy:
This knot looks so awesome on you! I must admit - I tried but I end up looking like I have a clown ruffle around my neck. :nogood::nogood: What am I doing wrong? I will persevere and keep trying though. The variants on your blog are also stunning. Thank you so much for contributing your beautiful knots to this thread. :smooch:

This is Grand Manege, by Henri d'Origny, which I've had since about 1990. I'm pretty sure I bought it at the Hermès boutique in Chicago.

I'm dressed super casually today: black tee, denim skirt, black knee socks & flats. The scarf turned a boring "meh" look into an "outfit" without looking too overly-styled.

P.S. I used a pair of magnets to keep the knot over to one side without slipping:p

Magnet queens - love the side tails. Kind of like a side pony with hair but yours are with silks. I love all the sharing and experimenting we have been doing on this thread! If my phone cooperates, I might have a little something to share later this afternoon. ;)

I've been getting that message off & on for days, MYH. Then I wait a few hours, try again, and this time it lets me upload.

It makes no difference what size the file is; I've tried all sorts of file sizes. I don't think it's us. I think tPF is experiencing an "issue.":p

Me too, MYH! Thank you so much for starting this thread... I'm learning so much!

Just try posting in a few hours. It's not your images, I'm sure. Can't wait to see your photos!:smile1:

Team silk - I've come up with another one I rather like but it's hard to follow in Arabesques footsteps!

This one is definitely for cooler temps. There's quite a lot of fabric around the neck and feels like a cozy turtleneck. But not suffocating! I don't like tight things around my neck. I can see this knot worn with a cashmere sweater or filling in a neckline of a button down shirt for work. It also comes out a little different each time. If I had to name it I would call it the cowl. If you all think it's a good one, I will try to post instructions. Here it is with three different scarves.
