I am totally phobic about public (or even other people's private) bathrooms! If I absolutely HAVE to use any bathroom other then my own, I NEVER put my handbag on the floor or any other surface!! I think it's a good idea, if the bathroom has paper towels, to take some into the stall with you, (a nice bunch of them) and use that to put between the floor and your handbag! :p (I HATE those bathrooms that have dryers, paper towels are best!) I do this wherever I am. When I get a manicure and there is no chair close by on which to place my handbag, I use an actual TOWEL (the manicurists have plenty to loan you) to put on the floor to protect my handbag. In a restaurant I have even taken a cloth napkin (if I need to put my handbag on the floor). But that is a rare instance, since I (9 times out of 10) keep my handbag on my lap. You should always try to keep your handbag where you can SEE it and FEEL it, otherwise someone could walk off with it! Maybe it's a good idea to bring a huge plastic baggy with you in case you need to protect your bag from surfaces:) You could fold that up in your bag and then discard it! I agree with Krazee4Coach, I NEVER put my bag in a shopping cart!

I saw a study like that on the news a while ago, and it is shocking. I have never ever put a bag on the floor, shopping carts, etc. but not because I was aware of all the germs, but because I am afraid of theft. I keep a cardboard box under my desk just to place my bag there.

Hey Maria, that is great idea, I've taken to putting my wallet in my desk drawer & leaving my bag out (huge edith bowler) :yahoo:but still don't like the idea of my girl sitting out all day - I'll be headed to the file room to look for a box on Monday thanks !;)

Wow I've gotten allot of great ideas that I'm going to instill. I've swiped the bottom of my bags with sterile wipes. My Calf Hair Valentino never saw the floor so she's good. As a whole because of work, my purses stay in the car for the most part. It's when I have to use the loo on the road where I run into issues. Beanie I concur about PT, bathrooms for me tend to be one person stalls (so you have a locked door). I take lots of paper towels and line the sink, I then put my bag on those.

After reading this article, I'm now going to be even more concientious.:yucky:

Gosh - I am a germ phobe but a weird one where I don't think about it sometimes. No bags ever on a bathroom floor but I one time set my python Betty on a public restroom counter (at a hotel at a wedding reception) and didn't see the water underneath! Maybe I wasn't exactly sober but what a dumb thing for me to do. Luckily there wasn't any damage - go figure? Has anyone seen that email about the expose of hotel drinking glasses?? It is horrifically bad. Maids were spotted at several hotels (with a hidden camera) squirting those glasses that you think are sterilized with some greenish liquid and simply wiping them dry - and not just the glasses with the paper lids still on them but obviously USED ones. YECH!!! That taught me a lesson about taking cleanliness for granted.

Who is putting their handbag on the PUBLIC BATHROOM FLOOR?!!!! That is SOOO discusting! I cant even imagine!

I'm pretty anal about where I set my bags. If it's a counter or surface I check to make sure it's not wet or dirty first and I'll do a quick brush off with my hand before I set the bag down...it's alot easier to wash my hand than it is to wash my handbag!

The other day I had to go into the court house and I had my Beloved Pale Rose City  with me. I had to send it thru an xray scanner and I about cried when I had to set it on the conveyer! I seriously let out a little whine as I tried to find the cleanest spot somewhere between the wet spot and the dingy areas. How does that thing get wet anyway?:confused1:

Great article susieserb! (or, as I know you, susie-erb... damn dyslexia LOL)

Yeah, I never put my handbag on the floor of a public toilet either - if there's no hook, I do one of those awkward shuffles, hook the bag over my shoulder and pee at a really weird angle to keep the bag balanced on my shoulder while reaching for the toilet paper :p

It's like when you go into a public toilet that is really filthy - if I can't hold it, I wipe it all down with toilet paper, line the seat with toilet paper and then pee while barely touching the seat (one of these days, my thigh muscles are going to give out) - thank goodness I've never had to do this with a paddington on my shoulder; surely I'd overbalance and go crashing into the stall next to me! how embarrassing!

BTW, this reminds me of an article I read about hotel rooms - apparenty, you're better off touching the inside of the toilet bowl with your bare hands (because they get cleaned so often, with bleach) than the remote control, which has been handled by every single guest in that room since the hotel was built! They did one of those swipe tests and the germs from the remote grew the lid off the petrie dish UGH

How many hooks come in that box? For the life of me I can't discern this. I'd love to have a hook for each purse i.e. nestled in a side pocket.

Does anybody know?

Edited, oops I know! Gulp two to a package. This seems high for plastic hooks. BTW Walgreens carries TV stuff like this. I'm going to check them out.

You know, I was just thinking about this issue the other day.

I took out my Silverado for her first real occasion - a work Christmas dinner - and I had to go to the ladies' room. Thankfully there was a hook on the back of the door but it still bothered me that she was resting on the door itself!

I was all over that bag like the mum of a newborn, all night. There was a spare seat next to me and that's where she sat. But people kept coming over to chat - once, she was unceremoniously plonked on to the tabletop (I was freaking out about the crumbs she would have been sitting on) and the next time someone came within inches of actually sitting on her! I stopped them just in time and nursed her on my lap.

There were also waiters squeezing past and I was terrified that something would be spilt on her. At one stage a waiter dropped a (used :yucky:) knife and it wedged between my back and the chair. My back was smeared with someone's risotto but I was just glad it didn't hit the bag!

Anyway, I was exhausted and stressed afterwards as I gently cuddled her up in her dustbag again. And it occurred to me that there are so many scary situations out there that we and our bags must face every day!

I bought purse hooks from www.silverhooks.com (the fold-up mirror version). They are a little pricier than some but I like the built-in mirror and the fact that they close with a magnet. The girls in my family are getting these for Christmas.

COB^ Dining out with our bags can be a challenge. Just tonight I had the same dilemma. I had a hook for the back of my chair but it was a windsor so the hook kept sliding down when a person jostled the bag (like a waiter doing his job). I found an empty seat in a corner, by our table, that was able to house the thing. I'm terrified a liquid will spill into or on the purse, groan....or worse yet butter smeared on it's side.

Hi there
I just got my long-awaited Betty...
I would like to clean the leather a bit but don't know why.
What can you do to remove stains? Please, bear in mind that it'd be impossible to get apple conditioner, LMB or whateveriscalled or Mulberry cleaner... Before Lescoy told me not to, I tried a wet baby towel in an invisible patch of leather and it didn't seem to cause any damage ...
Thanks in advance:tup:

Congrats! I'm so glad you found your Betty, I know how much you wanted one :flowers:

I wouldn't try and clean Betty leather myself, I'd be too worried about doing damage :push:
I would try and get it cleaned professionally either via Chloe or by Loving my Bags. There are lots of threads about Loving my Bags services on the b-bag section - I'm sure if you send your bag off to Barbara and she will work her magic

Thanks, Balchfen... I am in love with my betty:heart:... I believe is the same as your chocolate... As you know, my obsession with betties began when I was overbid on a beautiful small betty on ebay...
YOu are right, I won't do anything myself ... besides, the bag is in good condition, only a couple of whitiesh spots and some darkening in the handles... I may ring the Chloe dealer in Madrid, but I guess the bag would have to be sent over to Italy and it'd take ages for her to be back... :confused1:
Have a great week and thank you again for your reply!
