How to clean Tiffany's silver or other silver jewelry?

I took a few of my silver pieces in recently. I was charged $15 for my necklace, $10 for my bracelet and $5 for my ring. They looked great when I picked them up (about an hour later) BUT within a few days they looked just like they did when I brought them in for cleaning. I think I will pick up a cloth next time I am in there (probably this weekend)

^^ Thanks for the info beljwl! [PS - I see you everywhere in the PF so its good to get advice from a familiar user ]

My dad warned me of that when I asked him to take me to Tiffanys for a cleaning, so he gave me his old cloth to use at first. I definitely think the cloth will have more lasting effects at a better price.

i think the only way to make it look like new is to get it cleaned at tiffany. i have a silver polishing cloth i got there, but i find it is good for my neclace but the earings are too delicate.

Hehe, I have a thread like this too.
Anyways, I heard the polishing cloth works great!
My dad let me use his silver polishing cloth and my jewelry looks AMAZING now!
Other PFers have told me that your jewelry does come out looking like new if you send it to Tiffany's, but the shine doesn't last that long. IMO, you can get a lot more for your money if you just buy the cloth and do the job yourself.
Hope that helped!

the cloth is the best bet, i use it for all of my silver! i find that the cleaning cream is a bit messy. but to really get it shining and new looking (and to get rid of all the black) take it in. personally, i think its a rip off, but it is the best way to have it looking like new!

How funny, I have my Tiffany Peretti Bean necklace soaking in lemon juice right now. I hate it. My Tiffany's jewelry is all so tarnished, I just want to get rid of it. My mistake was buying so much of it. I think that having Tiffany's clean or repair anything is a rip off. Being a former employee, I feel confident saying that.

I don't know if you can get this outside of the UK but I always use 'Goddard's, long term silver pad foaming silver polish' and it is fabulous! I would not dream of using anything else!

It looks a horrible pink colour, like the old fashioned lifebouy soap, but it instantly removes tarnish and gives a wonderful gleam to your silver.

You use the pad that comes with it and lather it up with some warm water, then just 'shampoo' your item, rinse, dry, lightly polish with a cloth and hey presto....like new! :yahoo:

I just stumbled onto something. In an attempt to clean my T&Co. 10 year old jewelry, I used a combination of water, salt, & baking soda. I laid the pieces in a glass bowl lined with aluminum foil. Then I poured boiling water over the jewelry, then I added the salt & baking soda. You can actually see the tarnish disappearing. I'm not recommending this, but for impatient people like me who need instant gratification, this concoction definitely did the job.

I personally dont wear sterling silver, but my daughter has quite a few bracelets and necklaces by Tiffany. She takes it there to get it cleaned. In fact she gets it cleaned at the one in SCP every month when shes in CA. They buff out all the little surface scratches for free for her.
