How Many Coats Do You Own?

They really do accumulate when it's super cold for more than a third of the year!

I counted all the clothes in my wardrobe that I consider to be outerwear in my list. Excluded jackets that are part of suits, dedicated athletic gear & jacket-shaped layering pieces

I did a major coat clear out and only have three now. One for work, a slightly better one for nights out and a 'walk the dog' type of thing. I can honestly say it's much easier to get dressed and everything feels just perfect.

I just came back from 2 years living in Africa where I had 0 coats.... yikes! Before that I lived in the Northeast and coats were LIFE. As a student with basically a $1k annual wardrobe budget (that doesn't go far when you're 18 and have no wardrobe built up) I still managed to accumulate and use some 8 coats -- from memory -- all sorts of cheap and mid-range affairs:

- Purple pea coat, ???, $100
- Every color of rainbow pea coat, vintage, $40?
- Grey mid-length, Jacob, $150
- White North Face puffer, $200 gift from parents
- at least 3 weird vintage coats, $50-150, that I rarely wore
- black raincoat from Banana Republic for like $100

A couple years ago I received my first Burberry coat as a present -- it's amazing, knee-length, my "forever" coat. Unfortunately it's now a good 1.5 sizes smaller than I am after I lost my svelte college figure... yikes! Plus I now live where it rains but never snows and a wool coat is terribly impractical. So this gorgeous black wool trench is sitting in a closet in PA and I am back to cheap raincoats.

But most ladies on this forum have some 30 handbags and, blasphemy though it is to admit, I think I would much rather have 30 coats than 30 bags (though I think I may be on my way to both). There are weather conditions to consider! Plus -- with a coat, you don't have to fuss about moving things from one location to another... :)

Lots! I use them all, but I use the Dries and Barbours most often.

- Dries Van Noten navy wool funnel neck
- Prada black cashmere
- Prada black hooded duffle
- Miu Miu navy swing
- Tse beige cashmere
- Marni blue/black zip
- Marni green wool
- Marni black raw edge
- Barbour olive Beadnell
- Barbour Liddesdale
- various waterproof Patagonia jackets

Too many to count... I easily have over 40 if we are including leather jackets as coats. However, if only winter coats, then around 20. I didn't even realize how many I had until I looked. I live in a cold, wet climate, and apparently buy a lot of coats. The brands I usually buy are Burberry, Moncler, Mackage, Brunello Cucinelli, and Gucci. Although I try to buy the Cucinelli and Gucci on sale if I can.

I have around 20 - I also live in a 4 season climate - I want to purge more (I have purged 9!) but it is very hard! Mine consist of Barbour, Burberry (5 - this may be my problem area ;-)), Eddie Bauer long down; J Jill brown work/dress coat; Patagonia short down; denim, animal print velvet, etc.

I have so many that I have no place to store them in our apartment, and many have gone to storage. Living in a four seasons climate, they add up fast. I have at least 2 ankle length parkas, brown & black cashmere knee length dress coats, and various other trendier jackets/coats.

It's a little out of control

Huge Barbour fan here.
Just bought my first Moncler earlier this month.
Recently fell in love w/ Max Mara..bad addiction.

+1 MaxMara coats!!! Their clothes are usually too boxy for me, but their coats!!:hbeat:

After donating some older coats, my count is 7:
black Banana raincoat - must be at least 7 years old by now lol
random cotton short coat from anthropologie (back in the day when anthro clothes were better quality)
Jcrew cotton coat
Cole Haan black wool peacoat - everyday coat
BV wool coat - fall dressier coat
2 shearling coats - I don't do puffy coats so these are a great alternative for cold winters

I think I have like 3-5 winter coats (between dressier and outside play type jackets). I barely wear the ones I have though just because I hate wearing them. haha
