How many carats is the average engagement ring?

I agree that it really depends on the area you live in. I live in a suburb of Houston and almost everyone I know has a 2 carat center stone. They have not upgraded that was their original size. I am the only one i know who has upgraded. My first was 1.5 emerald cut, second was a 2.75 princess and third and final is 5.1 radiant
Swanky, the latest upgrade is a VERY new purchase. It is actually in transit to me right now. i will try to post pics this weekend
It is definitely regional. Bigger in metropolitan cities. However, I know a lot of people who bought bigger rings than they could afford. A friend's brother took out a 20K loan to finance a 2 carat ring. Another example: a relative sports a 2C ring but had to refinance the house just to pay the bills $$

To each her own. I love my "hearts on fire" one carat ring (from Sam's Club, no less). There are many rings I have stared at on others, but very satisfied with mine.
Our extra funds are going into future college savings for our kids

Here is a pic I took when I was selling an agenda, so my ring is not centered on my finger. I have a 1 carat solitaire engagement ring, 2 carat eternity anniversary band and I still wear my original wedding ring too....it's not fancy but it is very sentimental to me. I had a 1/2 carat solitaire until a year ago when we upgraded. I do not want to go bigger, I love the 1 carat size.
Thanks! And I agree, quality is much better than quantity. I had a choice between the 2.1ct- D, VS1 or a 3ct. F, SI1 for about the same price. I'm glad I chose the smaller one
I've heard of SI1 being referred to as "frozen spit." I don't think I have ever seen one to give an opinion.
LOL, I've never heard of that.. Actually, both diamonds were gorgeous & SI1 is still pretty high on the clarity chart. Frankly, I couldn't tell a ton of difference in the 2. The one I got has a slighter better cut than the other one had which gave it just a little more sparkle factor. I have a size 5 finger & actually thought the smaller one looked better on too.
