How many bags are too many bags?

Same here .
Strangely enough, after 15 years of collecting bags, I'm mostly bored . So I'm about to radically downsize the collection . I am not missing anything and I am happy about more space in my bag closet
I find it absolutely relieving !
I will always have a cool bag that suits my needs
And one thing I've learned for sure: I don't like having too many bags, quite the opposite
It's amazing what phases you go through in life ...
But I still love bags and will definitely buy one again in the future
Very well articulated ! I feel the same after just 6 years of collecting and going through phases with styles and brands..

It is a very expensive and addictive hobby.. i think there is no magic number as long as all bags get used.
I have couple of classic flaps in my wishlist and after that i will be on planet “Peace”

My sister has twigged I’m collecting bags-to be fair I bought my niece one and so far 4 for my sisters birthday next March…

But she copied my dad into an email stating I have “hundreds!” And have a wishlist.
I have 14 and a wishlist.

More than I need , but I love them, and not excessive .

I’m tempted to buy her about 10 for her birthday-she can’t give them back!

She’s Poison, told me not to buy her or her family Christmas presents so that she wouldn’t have to buy me one!

And my dad is occupied looking after my mum who has dementia -I keep going to help, he won’t be thinking about Xmas presents.

I’m going to stay at home with my cats on Xmas day…probably end up buying a bag as my Xmas present to me..

But my close girlfriend is going away from the end of October-I’ve given her already her Xmas and birthday presents, but I won’t see her after Wednesday -we had a cry last week, but she needs a break..

I seem to have bought presents for everyone but won’t get any back…could have gone towards the kitten.

I’ll show my niece the leather biker during Xmas holidays , if she likes it she can have it now, why wait until June(her birthday) when she can wear it now…if she doesn’t I’m not sure what I’ll give her, this year not ready to part with a bag…

The fact I’ve just read this whole thread after buying a new bag and having another on order probably means I’m worried I have too many and am spending too much! I’m reassured by my fellow TPF members thoughts and collections. I tend to buy new and not sell. I have passed a couple of bags to my mother and sister.

I have 21 good bags, 2 everyday contemporary back packs for commuting and 3 evening bags I’ve kept just for my teenage DDs to use.

The 21:
11 Mulberry - 4 larger totes or hobos, 3 satchels, 1 mini backpack and 3 evening bags.
6 Coach - 2 totes, 1 satchel, 1 hobo, 2 evening bags.
2 Kate Spade Nylon crossbodys I use for holidays and dog walking.
1 Loewe straw bag for holidays.

I’ve never been in debit and they are stored/displayed nicely in my closet so I can see and enjoy looking at them but behind doors so it’s just for me. I keep a spreadsheet of wears and costs as it’s all part of my hobby. I guess it’s an expensive hobby but one I enjoy.

I keep a spreadsheet as well, and it is indeed my hobby. It is good to keep a list to see what is being utilized. I have a small room acting as my walk in closet. I am running out of room so this is putting a halt on bag purchases. I sell what no longer works for me. Trying to go for classic designs that stand the test of time, but also holding onto 2000's bags because I am curious to see what the market will bring. Fendi baguette bags and Dior saddle bags have returned so it is worth the gamble. (and I am NOT a gambler).

I have 2 designer bags (Celine belt bag nano and LV alma bb) + 1 polene and 1 evening vintage bag (plus a MK that I only use for going to the gym or running errands), plus a black empreinte pochette metis on the way
I would also love to add a designer evening bag for date nights (debating between Chanel WOC and Lady Dior Pouch)

After that, I think I am settled and don’t strictly need any other handbags because I have all of the occasions covered with those 6 (4 of which, designer)

I believe more than 5/6 designer bags is too much for me, as I don’t want to have a very expensive collection that I have to panic about every time I travel. Plus, I would rather invest that money in some very cool travels or for actual investments, like property

Also, I don’t want to complicate my life. 5/6 expensive bags is more than enough (4 would be the minimalistic number for me)

I have about 20 bags and I think that is too much. I have been toying around with this idea about what is a good number of bags. But I have toying around with this idea with jewelry amount, book amount, etc. I have been putting numbers on myself on my collections or it will get out of control. I think the amount should be with your current lifestyle.

I have 32 handbags currently mostly classics from Hermes, chanel , LV and Dior.
I think for my lifestyle 32 is a bit high but I find it hard to sell as I love them all ! I won’t buy many more but shop more in my closet

Atm 15 is my maximum number as I don’t have much storage space, and veer towards similar colours and styles, so would end up doubling up

if I had 32…

Currently at 14, as I returned a travel bag I didn’t need..am Possibly gifting one as a birthday present next week IF my friend will accept it(she’s always buying chicken for my cats)..

This will leave me with a space or even 2..

I have a day out planned in April, where I’ll Definitely buy a bag..I’ve seen another I like..but also have my Wishlist..don’t want to go above 15..so something will have to give..

I can’t bring myself to sell any either…so either the Wishlist will have to wait, or I’ll gift one to my niece for her birthday in June to create a 3rd space..

Where do you store yours?xx

I can’t bring myself to sell any…
After 40, I started to downsize and sell off the so called “IT” bags, and upgrade to more practical timeless bags. Currently, down to 17 not counting work bags and keepalls.
…I think I’d regret them-I find gifting easier to live with..

17 isn’t far off my maximum

my personal cut off is 10 high end bags. I may add if I find additional work totes.
I’d Love to only have 10, but I’d have to re home 5- if 5 wore out over time or my niece purloined them and they weren’t replaced I could do it, but atm 15 is my comfort number-although I’d like to drop to 12….

Selling was hard, but gifting wasn’t an option. I don’t have many family or friends in my circle that love handbag like myself. It’s definitely my love and passion, not theirs.

I regret selling one bag, and that was my Speedy Bandoulière 35 in monogram canvas. The others, I’m happy I did. They no longer fit my lifestyle. Now in my 40’s, I won’t purchase a bag if I can’t see myself carrying it at 65.
