Hi all! Sorry if there's already a thread about this but I'm really curious about how people feel about Saffiano leather? Love it or hate it? Especially since it seems like most leather Prada or MK bags are made with it.

Personally, I always didn't like it until I got a MK wallet made out of Saffiano leather—and I realized that it really was very durable and easy to clean. It seems stronger and less prone to scratches than grainy leather, and really smooth leather (my favourite). However, I still think that Saffiano leather trades on...elegance...for functionality. I still would only considering buying a bag made of Saffiano leather if (in the future) I wanted a briefcase/handbag for work. Some of my friends claim to really like the look, while I don't, so I wanted to know if I was literally the only person who's not a fan of this trend?
Usually when I think about leather, I think about softness and gentle at touch. Saffiano leather does not transmit me those feelings. also, the bags in Saffiano leather look quite plastic-hy and rigid to me. I think it very much depends on a person's taste ...

I do not hate the Saffiano leather, but I do not like it because it look super perfect very structured almost remind me of a face over done botox...lol I like a soft leather handbag it's more like natural that's why I owed the MMK Hamilton Satchel in soft leather and I like it a lot.

It all depends on the bag!

certain bags look best when they are structured- thats when i think saffiano leather is such a great invention!

There are also certain bags, especially those that are designed to be soft and smooshy- and thats when saffiano leather does not fit

Personally I don't love it because I prefer softer, more flexible leather. I have a wallet in saffiano leather and don't much like the texture and stiffness. I do admire the Prada bags from afar though. :)

I think some are nice and others look cheap. I have a Ferragamo Saffiano and never had any issues with it

However, I only think its approiate to carry a Saffiano in Spring or Summer due to the look and thin style of leather.

I don't hate it but I don't like it as much as soft supple leather. I do think a saffiano wallet would be very practical. I bought a Prada deerskin wallet. I loved the beautiful soft leather. It's still in one piece after a couple of years of daily use but it does show wear. The same style wallet in saffiano leather would probably be in better condition today but I got what I wanted.

I only have 1 Saffiano bag - Fendi 2Jours, a compact wallet n card case from Prada. Saffiano doesn't have that Lux look or feel. That's the reason most of my bags are not Saffiano. But they do look good for structured bag.

I might consider buying another Saffiano as traveling bag, Or when I have toddlers in future. But it must not be very expensive as I don't foresee myself loving it for long term use.

I actually like Saffiano. I have one Prada in Saffiano and it's so low maintenance. Doesn't scratch and is somehow waterproof - meaning it can take some sprinkle but not really drenching rain. I don't mind the wrinkles on it. That's probably caused by how much my bag endures with all the stuff I bring.[emoji16] The only problem with Saffiano is that because of its stiff nature, the stitchings show a lot of stress. I noticed some stitches on my Prada handles have busted the leather around it. Not so noticeable but open closer look, one can see it. My local Prada would repair it but they'll have to send it to Hong Kong then to Italy and it would take almost 9 months.

I also have an MK in Saffiano. I think it's the Cynthia one. It feels somewhat flimsier than Prada's, but I like it. I only got this style because it doesn't have the Michael Kors logo anywhere outside the bag and I can remove the MK key chain.

I love it on my Prada bags. They look beautifully tailored and structured.

But, except for those 3 bags, I don't really want it on any other bags. I like diversity in my bags. And my favorite leather is a supple saddle like leather. I can deal with pebbled leather and have a couple. But nothing is like a rich, high quality, non Saffiano, non pebbled, non textured leather.

Agreed! I love Lambskin n Goat hide too! Feel so luxurious.

I'm not fond of saffiano leather.
I think it often cheapens the bag's look & resembles vinyl.
Water/scratches on saffiano = disaster, whereas nvt or similar gains attractive & soft character marks.
Just my thoughts.

The problem with Saffiano is that it is a corrected grain leather so they can use low quality leather and then stamp the leather with the print to hide any marks that would otherwise be visible in the hide.

I agree with both posts. I had a crease on my MK saffiano bag and it was could not be corrected. The paint eventually bubbled and peeled at the creases. Even the salesperson and the cobbler says that the crease will not disappear. I think its great for wallets and SLGs but as a bag or tote its not as durable as some salespersons claim. All things gets scuffs or scratches but at least with leather you can buff and polish them out. I still have several saffiano SLGs but I use them for traveling so if they get lost or damaged I fine with it.

I think that some brands produces good ones but most look like painted plastic or cardboard.
