I'm not a fan of Saffiano leather, though I do understand why people buy it for the functionality. I'm just not into it and can't bring myself to acquire anything made of it.

I like Saffiano leather for some styles. I think the more structured styles hold up very well with Saffiano and it wears extremely well. It resists scratches and general wear and tear. For slouchier, less structured styles, I prefer regular calfskin, lamb leather, or pebbled leather.

I agree that for certain structured bags it's okay, though I wouldn't pay premium. I have a Le Tanneur Nina and DKNY satchel that I use for travel or when I don't want to carry a higher end piece. I like the durability of saffiano, but there's a luxe and lusciousness it's just not able to achieve.

I appreciated my saffiano wristlet/wallet after spilling barbecue sauce all over it. Even though it was a muted pink color, the red sauce just washed off with a little dish detergent. Not many light colored leathers do that. I prefer it over patent after my white bag turned yellow from age.

But when it comes to scratches, I'm not sure its easy to disguise or get away with it as weathered or distressed leather.

I love saffiano leather and LV's epi coated leather. I live in Seattle where rain is constant and I am the mother of a messy child so the durability and weatherproof nature of saffiano is major. I also like how it resists scratches and wear. The hardware on saffiano items tends to age faster than the coated leather in my experience.

^^ +1

I love saffiano leather as it works for my lifestyle- I often travel on packed buses to work and whatnot so my bags often get bumped around or wet from rain, but the saffiano leather holds up very well for me :)
It's interesting to read other peoples' opinions on it. I agree it isn't the most elegant, but it all depends on what you do daily tbh.

When I buy leather bags, I want to feel and smell the wonderful leather - whether it be smooth, grainy or pebbled leathers. Suffice it to say, I don't get that high when I touch saffiano (btw, does it have leather smell?). Durability is not a factor, it is what makes me happy. :smile1: Sad to say, saffiano does not make me happy.
My wallet doesn't have a smell, so I'd go with no...?

Interesting...I mostly agree but personally I've never seen Saffiano used for slouchier styles (wouldn't be a fan anyway).

I had a bag in Saffiano leather and sold it because it was too much like vinyl and did not have a great leather smell. It also never softened up at all. It was extremely practical when it came to not showing any wear but for all the other reasons I decided it was not for me.

I agree with MSD Bags when I buy a leather bag I want to feel and smell the leather and durability is not that important to me either. I tried it and did not like it at all. I am back to calf skin or pebbled leather more my type of leather for a bag.
