Honesty please...is the J12 past its prime?

aww, Im so sorry to see this happened to your watch! I would say you have to go to the boutique and see what they can do. The problem is the part that chipped off is what is housing the internal mechanisms of your watch, and that will have to be replaced, which I am sure will cost you. Hope all goes well!
Thank you I'm absolutely heart broken, I adore my J12. The springs on the bracelet seem to be loose & it fell off my wrist Hoping I can have it fixed x

Honestly I really liked the J12, but I found the design often copied by other watch makers and I always thought the ceramic links looked 'plastic'. So I always liked the look of it, but not really love it. Plus if you add diamonds to it, not only does it look odd with the diamonds/plastic look, but it would also look gaudy.

On the other hand, the Dior VIII sang to me as soon as I saw it (thanks to @averagejoe I am looking at you mister I constantly drool over your VIII whenever you post pics of it). I love the detail of the VIII in comparison to the J12 and it still looks sophisticated if you choose to have diamonds with it. Plus the links of the VIII and the bezel is unique to any other watch I have ever seen.

But alas, I still haven't purchased one because I am still on the Rolex/Cartier/Patek Phillipe/ Jaeger Le Coutre/ Audemars Piguet, etc., etc. bandwagon (well my dad is and I borrow his watches all the time :graucho: and well yeah I love his watches) so I never really saw the need to buy a watch for myself, and I don't want to be judged by a bone fide watch snob aka my dad.

The only watch that I did purchase for myself is my trusty Citizen watch I have worn consistently for the past 6 years on a daily basis.

This is just my opinion but yeah it seems like everyone else here loves it though  Buy whatever sings to you as its your money and not mine!

OHHH I forgot about the Dior VIII. It is absolutely magnificent in person!!! I had wanted a two tone in the smallest size, but they didn't make it =(

If you love it and it fits your personal style, then buy it. You seem to have been lusting over it for 8 years which tells me you REALLY want it. If resale is an issue, then a Rolex is the better option.
I purchased a Rolex 8 years ago instead...and though I do love it and wear it every day, I still want a J12 LOL!

Although it's not my favourite or staple, I think it's a great fashion piece to have..
I've had the white one for a few years now and wear it often enough.
It holds up so well though! Mine has taken a beating and some and it's still looking perfectly fine.

I used to like the J12 a lot, however I think it's now totally outdated... A SA told me that each year, they sell a lot of unsold J12 to their employees at a low price.

Same, but I don't regret. My Datejust II is a true timepiece, J12 is a fashion watch. :hrmm:
