Yes! You are brave. I always thought dip dyes couldn't be hand washed. Mine is stiff and I thought the hems were ruined from having gone through the drier at the event. Thanks for this info!
Momasaurus don't worry about washing. Mine were so stiff you could feel the dye, especially the blue. I washed them in fairly lukewarm water with baby shampoo and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed some more. The water had just a hint of color, I expected a lot more, so don't worry. I rolled them in a towel first and squeezed out the water, then while they were still wet I stretched and stretched the hems. I think they shrunk the threads that make up the hem when they dried them, and to soften them up a bit more I put them in the dryer on fluff with a fabric softener sheet. I ironed them while still slightly damp and they came out great. Give it a try.

This was an older 140cm silk crape scarf probably form the 90's. The scarf was in a pepto bismo pink and I had it dyed blue. The color came out very rich, the photo shows it lighter then it is, and I like it much better. But the scarf did not come back perfect, there were several spots the size of a quarter with very dark blue dye deposit. I washed it but the spots were permanent and did not come out.

Have washed every sort of hs, to me, the secret is to leave it in the water very long, don't get distracted on the phone ! Put it in the water, then get it out !

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I wash all my scarves except the dipdyes! Have even done the pouring boiling water over color runs technique. (That works, by the way.)

Wait, what? They left these blobs on your scarf? I guess we signed something that gave them permission, right? I hope you can enjoy the scarf anyway. The transformation is amazing!

Yes we signed a long legalize document that absolves them of everything. I still like the color the scarf turned out and now I don't have to worry about the first stain.

I didn't notice the spots at first -- looked like shadows. I hope it doesn't detract from you enjoying the scarf. I bet they become less noticeable when it is folded and worn.

My Hermesmatic-ed scarves do have the dip-dye softness. They are sort of floofy. They could use a pressing, I suppose, but I think I'm gonna keep 'em floofy! Wear will probably flatten them down a bit.

Mine did not come back stiff (with either pink or purple dye) but it did come back with puckered hems. I'll try rewashing and ironing!

Almost had to call out the cavalry but my NYC dip dyes have finally arrived and I'm very happy with the new looks. I apologize..no before shots. I wasn't reaching for any of these scarves in their previous lives but I'm pretty sure they will see the light of day now!

Going clockwise: Carre Kantha (was white/brown/orange, dyed blue), Les Chevaux Se Rendent au Depart (gavroche; was yellow/gold and dyed blue), In the Pocket (was pale celadon, dyed blue), and Cirque Molier (was white/pale blue, dyed hot pink).
