ok thank you.. please refresh your questions regarding this bag.... thank you....

Thanks Doc..

I am considering of buying this vintage rough box for USD 3 k.
I noted there are some water marks at the front of the bag and scratches all over the bag.

My questions :
If I follow your method of buffing the bag using Blackrock for 6 to 7 times, resting the bag for a few days in between,

What would the effect be to the bag?
Would the water stains and scratch marks be lighten or blended into the leather?

Is the bag still worth buying in this case?

Thanks for your advice .

Hi Doc

Hope all is well with you!

Would greatly appreciate your advice on the condition of a preowned Kelly before I make the purchase. The Kelly was made in 1993, oW stamped, was told a Vache Natural. The condition seems good overall except the base of the handle where it is connected to the ring, I suspect there being a small cut/rip (photo attached showing). Does it look like a small cut/rip to you? I am not sure. Is it something I should be worried about? Is it fixable?

Also, there are pen marks and I suspect white paint on the interior of the bag. Can these be removed and how? The corners are also a bit scruffy, how would I buff them up? The only thing that I have on hand is a Saphir Renovateur. What else would I need for this leather?

The reseller is offering it at USD 4K. Does it sound like a reasonable offer given the condition? Should I go for it?

Thanks much!!

Doc's Answer> that would be way too much product and would make a mess of things.

What would the effect be to the bag?
Doc's Answer> too sticky
Would the water stains and scratch marks be lighten or blended into the leather?
Doc's Answer> Water blisters on box calf don't disappear with conditioning , they tend to stay
Scratches can often be make to look better...

Is the bag still worth buying in this case?
Doc's Answer> I would be better able to advise you by being able to view photos. does the bag otherwise look good? is it sturdy? restoration can be fun and rewarding.... Show me more and ill be happy to try and help.

Thanks for your advice .

Doc Answer> might be vache natural I cant say for sure with your photos,, what does the Hermes Paris Stamp look like? That does look like a tear on the handle base pad. it may not cause problems right away or it could...I cant say from the photos...if the leather is very dry I would be concerned. It maybe fixable but it will be away along time with Hermes craftsman....

Also, there are pen marks and I suspect white paint on the interior of the bag. Can these be removed and how?
Doc answer> those marks maybe removable however then you might have areas without color and those would need an exact color touch up ,save that for a professional...

The corners are also a bit scruffy, how would I buff them up? The only thing that I have on hand is a Saphir Renovateur. What else would I need for this leather?

Doc answer> when an unfinished leather gets stains they do tend to stay...
Scruffy? meaning worn? you wont fix worn away corners on an unfinished leather bag with polish or buffing youlll generally need to embrace the character that the bag develops . I would not use saphir renovant on vache natural, I would use lexol ph cleaning wipes, or Luxury Again handbag spa kit for unfinished leathers or blackrock leather n rich

doc's Answer, seems like it; yes

Thanks much!!

Its shiny. It looks kinda shiny now because of the sun light.
it can be polished but it wont have that bright clear glassy shine coating as you see on shiny croc when new.
it could be sprayed with a upper shiny spray but it will wear off quickly and if put on too heavy it will scale and sheet off.
I would say if you would be happy with a pretty glossy sheen then hand polish and hand buffing could get you there...with the correct products and techniques....not shoe polish mind you.
I hope this helps?

Hi Doc

Please see the photos attached.
Thanks for your views.

Hi there,
those scratches will remain, but the scratches can be made to look better with conditioning eventually the bag will have other scratches and they will blend back into the bags patina and then become less noticeable, a luxury Again Restoring Spa kit for vintage box Calf would work beautifully on a bag like this...As would saphir renovanture

Hi ,
great job getting the tarnish lifted off!
you have a cool Her bag there, its going to develop a deeper color as you proceed with conditioning..the marks are going to stay now and may become more noticeable if you use certain types of conditioners which are oily or greasy. I would use lexol PH wipes or a Luxury Again Spa Kit for Unfinished Leathers which has a special deep cleaner in it and a non greasy conditioner.

Hi doc,

Thanks so much. You don't know how much I appreciate this advice as a newbie. And I do adore my humble Herbag. No, actually, we all do!

Continue to get better.

Best, LC

Thanks for the reply Doc.

Attaching more photos. The leather sure is VN. Does the leather look dry to you? The tear on the handle base pad does seem obvious from these 2 photos. Is it severe?

Thanks for the time!
