Dear docride

I have a question about evergrain leather. It is so buttery but can show scratches easily. Also, the country I live in always has rain. I wonder whether I can use Hermes saddle balm to buff off the scratches and at the same time condition the bag (to make it more usable in rainy days)? Thanks much in advance.

hi there,
no you wont want to use hermes balm it will make a mess on that leather

try Luxury Again Weather & Stain Shield kit it will condition and protect and also with a buff bring p the shine and help blend in the scratches

good luck,doc

Dear Docride, thx a million for your reply. I guess I would get the Lexol ph wipes to clean it for the time being(as I can find it locally) and wait for the shipment of Luxury Again Spa kit, which takes about 2 weeks.

Can I start my Luxury Again Spa Kit procedure as soon as I get it? or wait til the next maintenance time (in about 4 to 6 months) since I had recently done my B&O treatment? I live in the tropical so it's hot and humid here.
If the Spa Kit is done do I need another layer from Luxury Again Weather & Stain Shield kit?

Many thanks again, I feel so blessed to have your advice on my exploration of vintage bags. again I hope you a speedy recovery :hugs:

Hi, if you live in a wet climate use the weather and stain shield kit and save the spa kit for another time or another bag.
All the best doc

Hi Doc and all,

I recently joined the forum, but I have visited in the past. This is the most unbelievable thread. Doc, you have such a wealth of knowledge - my hat is off to you! I am so impressed that under your instruction, so many others have rescued bags that were bound for the trash. All of your "students" should be so proud of the work done. I love looking at the before and after pictures. I have "only" read about 200 pages of the threadso far, but I really wanted to say hello. I personally am inspired to get some things out of my closet that I don't use due to various poor cosmetic aging and try to rehab them. Also I never thought of tackling a leather couch which needs some help. I don't have time to post pictures right now, but they are corner wear and color fading in most instances. No particulars today.

BTW Doc, you have reminded me of my time at summer camp years ago where we had to clean the saddles and tack for the horses. I had forgotten about the work we had to do in order to be able to ride. That was 4-H camp, and no pampering there.

Welcome; glad you enjoy docride's thread. Just a friendly reminder that it is for advice on Hermes leathers only; there is a general leather care thread in the handbag subforum.

Dear Doc

I'm a new member.
I am getting a vintage Kelly. Before I commnit,
I would like to check if these scratches can be lightened? IF so, what should I do to lighten the scratches marks?

Hi Doc, this is more a hardware issue but you are a genius so I thought you may be able to help, my Constance with PHW has a lot of scratches on the H buckle. What is the best way to buff them? Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Suzie
P.S. If you need a pic just let me know.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I just purchased this barenia ebene Vision II agenda in Europe two weeks ago. The suede inside of the pockets is not nice - not smooth at all (and the photo shows the "whiteness" on the suede). ImageUploadedByPurseForum1434194137.975225.jpg I am posting on this thread because I am nowhere near an Hermès store and so cannot return it -- so what can I do about this suede, if anything? I just checked and the slightly scratchy feeling extends even to the corners (which hold the memo paper down). Might this be due to age? Thank you in advance.

Hi doc,

Thank you for providing such a knowledgeable service. I hope you are healing well and will be "back in the saddle" soon! :flowers:

I have a vintage box kelly and it seems that the ?resin may be splitting in the interior of the kelly. I brought the kelly to hermes and the craftsman did a great job on the outside, but did not touch the interior of the bag as per policy. Should I use something like Barge cement or Fiebings leathercraft cement?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Yikes! My toddler just decided to spit his breakfast on my kelly as I was taking pictures (which he never does)!! :wtf: Thankfully I was able to wipe it off with some lexol pH wipes and no worse for wear!! Phew!! :sweatdrop:

Hi there,
A bit of seeing an open edge isn't particularly worrying so long as your stitches are tight ...are they?
cement would require clamps and that's a funny angle additionally that leather maybe too curled and stiff now to just stay together with some glue and clamps... especially if there is oil in those areas... what more can you tell me?
All the best doc
PS>thank you for the well wishes
Glad your Kelly came ok with your quick thinking!

Hi there
perfectly normal... the inside pocket isn't lined on one side.. also the leather has a fine nap which lays down when handled... that light dusty sort of top color and slight nap will lay down smooth with use. that's a special and rare piece ! congratulations!
All the best doc
