Hello Doc,

I have just taken possession of a 31 trim in orange gulliver. There are a few small marks that don't bother me much, but I need some advice before I do further cleaning and moisturizing.

I started with lexol wipes. In the first pic you can see the line (on the back of the bag), which got a bit darker after wiping. When I got to the front, where there is a similar line scratch, I avoided the area entirely. The circular stain on the hardware strap lightened quite a bit with lexol wiping.

So my question is: should I go ahead with the Blackrock / Obenaufs treatments you outlined, or will the two scratch marks darken? They seem to be scratches made in the leather, rather than stains put onto the leather. As I said, I'm not bothered by them now, but definitely don't want to do anything to worsen. Also need to know if regular maintenance will be OK.

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

I would not use blackrock or obenauf on this leather type at all ( I only have recommended those for Vache Natural and Box Calf)

Conditioners, neutral polishes and some cleansers will / may / usually / can / darken any area where you have missing top skin or missing finish or a deep scratch which penetrates the leather's surface.

Always test a small area first with your products and wait to see if you like the result after a few hours before treating large visible areas.

Massaging some color touch up or color restorer on to areas which have missing finish can help these problems... but care must be taken to be conservative in application and have a matching color so as to avoid making a mess of things. Luxury Again is launching their color touch up kits which could help. Then you can go forward with normal conditioning and polishing. I like to recommend a Luxury Again DIY Handbag Spa Kit because its easy to use and works on all finished leathers and exotic skins .

I hope this helps?

Oops! Here's the picture!

This is a nice finished leather and that's the take home message here, so you can use the Luxury Again products on it.. always do a small hidden test area and wait to see the results make sure you are happy with them prior to treating large visible areas.
What are you trying to accomplish? Which products are you wanting to use?

Thanks so much, Doc! Glad I asked before starting out with the B and O.

While I'm waiting for you to launch the orange color touch-up kit, would you recommend I spa the bag using your Luxury Again kit? Or wait until I can color it first?

Any other warnings about Gulliver leather?

Thank you!

You can clean and condition now... but before you do the color touch up I would clean those areas first. The cleaner pack will be in the kit so just start with a DIY Spa now.

Dear Doc,

I do not know what type of H leather it is in the first place and wasn't sure how 'rough' I can be with the bag. It would be great if you or anyone at all can help with the leather identification =)

I purchased the Luxury Again Weather and Stain Prevention Kit to help protect the leather from water spills or light rain. I live in a humid country where the weather is unpredictable. I'm also looking into purchasing the Luxury Again Ink Removal Kit and Spa Kit.

I thought that if I knew what leather it is, that would help with how often I should be using the Weather and Stain Kit because I bought it with the intention to use it often. If the leather is indeed 'fragile' and porous, I should take a little more care in looking after it compared to a bag made in Clemence or Epsom.

Many thanks for the previous reply!

Im not exactly sure what leather you have there, maybe swift or? But most importantly it looks like a "finished" leather meaning it has an over spray of finish on top of the leather think of the "finish" as a top coat. Most leathers used in handbags are finished leathers.
You can check out how it reacts as mentioned Prior.
I hope this helps?

Hi Doc,

I've applied 02 rounds of Luxury Again Weather & Stain Protection on the bag. Bag looks exactly the same, feels the same too. The only thing was the brown seals felt sticky after using the Cleanser. The stickiness was gone by the time I applied the Weather/Stain Protection.

I was told the bag was Evercolor and Box Calf by a professional authenticator over the weekend. However, after reading the posts on Purseforum, I doubt it.

Nonetheless, I'm glad Luxury Again works on pretty much all leathers. Took all the guess works out =)

Thank you again Doc for your time!

I agree it could be ever color I doubt it's Box Calf could also be veau tadelakt (probably spelled that wrong) But the main take home message is that this is a finished leather :)
Im glad things are working out..
Enjoy your beautiful bag.

Dear Doc,

I would like to seek your expertise and your opinion, please.

I am looking to purchase this vintage bag. If yes then will a Hermes spa help to restore it? Or are there any other methods that I should learn to clean it? Hope to hear from you.

(Docride - I have just spent a time reading all pages of this thread and you are just amazing. I have learned so much and can't thank you enough for sharing your expertise with such generosity. Thank you, thank you, thank you! and sorry for my english)

Does any one know how can you find a fiberglass replacement plate for a vintage Constance bag?
Sorry if it's not right to ask here
Thanks to you

I think you can make one rather easily with a skill saw, a drill and some sanding ....
Or just send it in to H and they'll replace it .... not too pricey either.
Good luck,doc

Hi there,
Thank you for your kind words.
Well that's a cute vintage H bag thank you for sharing the photos. It's important to have a handle on how much improvement can be accomplished with a spa. The wrinkles and cracks are going to remain regardless of who spa's the bag. the cracked strap might possibly be replaceable by H.. but you'd have to check with them to be sure.
I hope this has helped?
All the best, doc
