Thank you so much for your reply. So there is a solution.I thought they would not replace those plates at H anymore because on vintage H Constance bags on sale sellers always insist if it's a bag with the plastic or the newer model. And yes if you're a bit handy you could make your own:). I'm a bit surprised though that they could choose a plastic solution for the closure of these bags at one stage!
It's not a ' noble' material..

Does any one know how can you find a fiberglass replacement plate for a vintage Constance bag?
Sorry if it's not right to ask here
Thanks to you

I think you can make one rather easily out of plexi-glass with a skill saw, a drill and some sanding ....
Or just send it in to H and they'll replace it .... not too pricey either.
Good luck,doc

Hello! I ordered a "new" Blackrock Leather N Rich online. Since I have never purchased this product and can't compare it to any photos online. Was wondering if is suppose to be this color? The container was fiflthy, did not have any plastic seal, and was barely full. I will most likely return it and purchase from a different site. If possible, please post photos for future reference. Thanks in advance!

May I chip in? If you mean the plate on the back of the clasp, Hermes Bond St (London) mailed me one without my having to send them the bag and I fitted it myself. I had to give them the measurements of the broken one, as the location of the screw holes changed at some point and later plates don't fit older vintage bags.

Hi docride! Great thread!!!!!! I'm currently looking at a vintage kelly 32 in box leather, but the seller has told me that her bag is quite dry due to it's age. It was produced in 1996 and I was hoping you could shed some light on whether the leather is already "too dry" to be saved or conditioned before I make my purchase. I have attached pictures below. Thank you!!!!! This thread is so useful!

The color and consistency is correct. I think that's about how much came in my jar, and I don't recall it having a seal. However, I can't believe they shipped you a dirty jar! It probably means this jar has been sitting on a shelf for awhile, although I don't believe age has much affect on the cream. My jar is six years old, and the cream hasn't changed in appearance or efficacy.

Unless you bought this on Amazon, I wouldn't bother returning it, because shipping from most shops tends to be more than the cost of the product itself. The exception would be if you see dirt or grit inside the jar, in which case I'd be on the phone to the seller ASAP!

Dear Doc,

I would like to seek your expertise and your opinion, please.

I am looking to purchase this vintage bag. If yes then will a Hermes spa help to restore it? Or are there any other methods that I should learn to clean it? Hope to hear from you.

(Docride - I have just spent a time reading all pages of this thread and you are just amazing. I have learned so much and can't thank you enough for sharing your expertise with such generosity. Thank you, thank you, thank you! and sorry for my english)

Hi there,
Thank you for your kind words.
Well that's a cute vintage H bag thank you for sharing the photos. It's important to have a handle on how much improvement can be accomplished with a spa. The wrinkles and cracks are going to remain regardless of who spa's the bag. the cracked strap might possibly be replaceable by H.. but you'd have to check with them to be sure.
I hope this has helped?
All the best, doc
Thanks you so much. Your help is so greatly appreciated!

I am not affiliated with blackrock leather N rich in anyway. The container top is dirty I'll grant you but it does not look half full from here. Good luck

Hi Doc,
I just picked up this beautiful jige in suede with lizard trim. I want it to last for decades any advice on how to care for the suede is there something I should spray on it?
oh8ih1.jpg

The lizard is the most delicate thing on your bag, use a good lizard care product Like Reptan by Sapphir or a Luxury Again Care Kit for Exotic skins. The suede is rather hardy and may need care not to rub away the nap and eventually to clean it with a suede care product but it wont be for some time to be sure. You will need a suede brush at that time.
All the best,doc
