Hi Docride ,
I've just found the black box Kelly of my dreams : 1960s in lovely supple condition with almost no scratching or corner wear [ to my eye ]
I don't know if it's been well preserved or had had 'work' done ….
The only defect is the superficial cracking on the handle ,not bad enough to bother me as the rest of the bag is so glowing and lovely . I like that tiny badge of vintage-ness.

I've read over your thread and before laying a hand on the bag wanted to get the all clear .
My plan is to Blackrock x 2 , then Obenauf heavy duty LP x1 as I want to use the bag and rain can happen .
I also wondered whether Skidmores on the handle would be a good idea , and if so would I do the B and O too ?

Many thanks , love this thread and have learnt so much .

Congratulations and enjoy! Please post some photos for us vintage lovers. X

Hello Docride,

When you have a spare minute please can you tell me on how to give this preloved 2001 Herbag some TLC. It's looking dry but no serious cracks. After reading your advice I'm thinking on getting the Hermes saddle soap to start with? Not sure if I should proceed with the Hermes restorative balm......?
Any help and all advice is appreciated.

Of your choices from your list I would choose
1. Meltonian Leather Lotion Black Bottle with blue label saying for leathers, patents, imitation leathers, reptile skins and vinyls.
Or Lexol Ph Wipes

I would not use the other products on your ostrich. They aren't nneeded and might get you into some problems and issues such as color changing or waxy residue under the quill (follicle?)

All the best,doc
Thank you very much Doc :-)

That is amazing!!! What products did you use? I read your initial post. Was this only after cleaning?
Thank you! Well, let me just say again that I purchased it from a bin for $1.50. I am a thrifter. Anyway, I was anxious and couldn't wait, so I used what I had. I cleaned it with a soft cloth and Leather Master foam cleaner and added Blackrock. I really took a chance and was afraid, but it worked out fine. The interior had stains and smelled so I used regular shaving cream. Thank goodness everything worked out fine. I have two Hermes that need cleaning. One I found for $5.99 and the other for $1.80. I need help, so I will post.

I would just use a decent leather wipes to start with Lexol PH wipes or Luxury Again Cleansing wipes, and a conditioner & shine product like Sapphir Renovant or Luxury Again Leather Lotion wipes. I would not use Hermes Baulm on this project.

What a lovely transformation.
It's amazing what nourishing leathers can do, and what a great project it's been - i'll bet this won't be your last now, once you see how a skin can be improved you get the bug to want to do more :p

Hi Docride,

I have a 2002 Herbag cabas in blue that I have used as a workhorse bag for years -- book bag back in college, travel, gym stuff etc. I did condition the leather throughout use, so it's not dry, and canvas has held up beautifully, but the suede part of the handles is starting to look very dirty. Is there a way to clean it, at least somewhat? I have an Ahmedabad bag with the same issue also, so it would really be very helpful.

Thank you so much!

Hello
Just wondering if you have ever hand-washed or dry-cleaned the canvas of your herbag? recently posted picks of a pre-loved 2001 Herbag and although the fabric isn't dirty it would be nice to give it a light clean.

Hello DocRide,

My Kelly Vache Liegee is in good condition but it is a little bit dirty. Could you please help me, let me know how I can clean and condition this beauty? Can I use Lexol PH wipes? What other products should I use on this one? Thank you so much and you're greatly appreciated!!:smile1:
