You probably will not be able to remove them. I cant tell by looking at your photos if those are water or oil stains... Water stains may become more bended with gentle washing with a damp cloth.... only for the skilled or the professionals. Regarding oil stains, these can sometimes be lightened with degreasers again only in the hands of the skilled or the professionals. The main thing is that if these are old marks then the leather and the liquid which dropped upon it have had a chance to react with each other often times leaving a stain, like a dyed mark and that's the part that doesn't go away.
If you like leather with character and a distressed look then this leather type with marks already will do nicely. If not I would choose one without any marks that you can protect to keep from getting water marks in the first place. Or better still choose a leather type which is a finished, most all of Hermes leathers are finished leathers, except for Barenia, and semi finished leathers such as Veau Porc and vache Natural.

I hope this helped?
All the best,doc
thank you very much doc! i will seek professional help. thank you

Hi Doc,
I purchased beautiful pre owned ostrich Plume. Stamp is B in the square - so it is 17 years old.
It is almost brand new condition but because it is pre owned I would like to give it a cleaning. This is my first ostrich item.
I have a several lather care products but not sure is I can use them on this bag.

1. Meltonian Leather Lotion Black Bottle with blue label saying for leathers, patents, imitation leathers, reptile skins and vinyls.
2. Lexol PH Wipes
3. Blackrock leather 'n' rich
4. Obenauf's heavy duty lp
5. Meltoinan cream polish in clear

If products I have are not suitable could you please recommend what I can get for general cleaning and maintenance of this ostrich?

Thank you very much for your help :-)

Hi Docride ,
I've just found the black box Kelly of my dreams : 1960s in lovely supple condition with almost no scratching or corner wear [ to my eye ]
I don't know if it's been well preserved or had had 'work' done ….
The only defect is the superficial cracking on the handle ,not bad enough to bother me as the rest of the bag is so glowing and lovely . I like that tiny badge of vintage-ness.

I've read over your thread and before laying a hand on the bag wanted to get the all clear .
My plan is to Blackrock x 2 , then Obenauf heavy duty LP x1 as I want to use the bag and rain can happen .
I also wondered whether Skidmores on the handle would be a good idea , and if so would I do the B and O too ?

Many thanks , love this thread and have learnt so much .

Hi doc,

It is in clemence leather. I let it air dry since yesterday. It still feel a bit sticky. I don't see any visible change on the leather except a few white dust on the bag due to the stickness. Is there any treatment I can apply on it ? I don't want to send it to a spa yet.

I did apply a bit of apple conditioner at the corner and the stickness seems much less than before.

Thanks

If your bag is sticky I would NOT apply a conditioner on top... I would clean the bag first. There are many good leather cleaners out there... Lexol PH wipes, or
I like Luxury Again Cleansing wipes which will clean off all sorts of things ... why not get them a go?

Congratulations! What an exciting time!
Actually
you can choose any of those products but you don't need them all I would do Backrocks & Obenaufs or Skidmores ... or just do a Luxury Again Weather and stain shield it will condition and weather protect all in one. Easy peasey.

Of your choices from your list I would choose
1. Meltonian Leather Lotion Black Bottle with blue label saying for leathers, patents, imitation leathers, reptile skins and vinyls.
Or Lexol Ph Wipes

I would not use the other products on your ostrich. They aren't nneeded and might get you into some problems and issues such as color changing or waxy residue under the quill (follicle?)
