Hi docride
I have a preloved Louis Vuitton Cabas Mezzo 2002 ,the vachetta is in need of cleaning and conditioning . The straps have some surface cracks underneath What would you recommend to clean and condition the vachetta ImageUploadedByPurseForum1427762031.876940.jpg

Your advice would be greatly appreciated[emoji4]

Hi Doc - I just wanted to express my gratitude for your spa kits. My dear friend Vigee brought your products to my attention. I just spa'ed my 12 year old black Ardennes B and your pre-soaked cloths made it so easy for me to clean and then lotion it (I still have to buff it). The bag looks fantastic and my smiley face indentation from my clochette is no longer visible - unless you look super closely for it. In fact I used the residue of each cloth to clean my DH's leather bag and it even lifted highlighter stains off of his bag! This has saved me returning this B to H for a spa trip to Paris! I will be spa'ing some of my other H bags over Easter weekend :-)

So consider this a shout out to your easy to use spa kit! Thanks again xx

Hi docride, I'm wondering if you could help me. This stain appeared AS I was cleaning my Birkin with Apple cleaner. It won't come off. What should I do to remedy it? The original colour is gris perle. Thanks very much.

Oh dear, that's color-loss, don't keep rubbing on it, it will make it worse. Your cleaner was probably too harsh..or it was too strong and it was rubbed to hard... is the area dry now?
I'll check back

Uh, oh. Now I am wondering if I have neglected to provide her with what she needs.

I purchased her from my local Hermes boutique in April 2013. I just haven't worn her much because I'm having back issues and she is too heavy for me to carry until they improve. She seems content to rest in her sleeper bag for now. I live in South Florida, so I would say my house has greater than average humidity levels, if that makes a difference. I purchased your Luxury Again kit in case she ever got any boo-boos, but I never realized I should use it for preventive care. She is fresh from the boutique, without any weatherproofing or treatment of any kind.

Does she need weatherproofing? I wouldn't wear her in the rain. Would that diminish the BB shine? That is one of my favorite characteristics of black box leather. I have other SLG from Hermes. Perhaps I should give them preventative care as well. My BE wallet is looking a bit dull from constant use. I feel my to-do list getting longer, as we speak. :thinkin:

Probably at this stage the Weather and stain shield would be the way to go. It will actually protect, condition and shine too... so no worries about ruining the shine it will add to it.
I hope that helps.
All the best,doc

Hi Docride! I really really really appreciate all your efforts in providing advice and guidance with leather care. I've learnt so much already! The only thing is - I haven't quite been able to filter through the pages and see if my question has been answered previously so please bear with me if you are repeating yourself.

I have a Prada saffiano leather wallet in a light blue that is a little worn now with slight dirt build up and a little crinkling of the leather (from my sweaty hands, ahh!!). Would blackrock be suitable for this?

I also have a Prada vitello grain leather handbag in black. Provided it is not a structured shape as my saffiano bags, I was wondering what you would recommend?

Thank-you kindly in advance!

Much love

I'm sorry but the thread is for Hermes leathers/products only. Please consult the general handbag subforum - there is a leather care thread there. Thanks!

Hi Docride! Hope you've been keeping well. Sorry I'll miss the Las Vegas meet and won't get to meet you in person. It'd have been so informative and interesting to participate in your workshop.

I'm looking at your Luxury Again kits to protect my bags. Congrats on launching the line! So needed! Most of my bags are clemence, then I have 1 epsom, 1 gulliver and 1 evergrain. Should I be using the Spa to go or the Weather & Stain shield kit on these? I don't carry my bags often but just want to protect them, just in case. TIA!

Either kit would be fine on those leathers. The weather and stain shield is a good idea
I hope this helps?

Makes total sense, Doc! Thank you! I'll use the weather & stain guard kit on them right away especially on my wallet and new gator CDCs. :D

Last year you suggested using Meltonian on my gulliver Plume and chamonix Drag to water repel so I don't need to use Meltonian any more, right? I think you later mentioned that it contains silicone. And for the chamonix Drag, should I use the Blackrock before or after treating with your weather kit or leave it alone? After seeing MrsO's water spot, I'm afraid to get water stain on the chamonix when I bring her out this spring.

You will want to always test a small hidden area to make sure you like the results no mater what product you use. You can use one or the other product you wont need to use two similar products. I prefer Luxury Again's because it also conditions and shines too.
The Luxury Again Weather and Stain Shield treatment like most weather and stain protectants should be repeated every 3- 6 months depending upon how much stress and weather the item encounters. I like to do two treatments in a row to get a good protection base going.
I hope that helps?

Thanks very much, Doc! I'll do the whole LA spa kit on the Drag even though I haven't carried her yet and then do the weather kit. I get really weary about carrying a chomonix so haven't used it since I treated it last summer. But a bag is meant to be used so once I do all this, I'll feel a lot more confident and bring her out. Off to order LA kits now. Thanks again for your advice and time! :hugs:

Hi docride,

Thanks so much for answering our questions and offering amazing advice! I'm interested in a 1964 drag, but am unsure how many of its issues would be repairable/treatable. There's wear on the corners, sides, cracking (or wrinkling?) around the top and on the handle (and I believe it's dry cracking on the handle, though I will check with the seller), and I think some resin spots? What (if anything) could be done?

Well it's a cool bag, I'll grant you. What sort of look are you wanting to work this bag into? It has some issues ... cracks are not going to go away... that's the key issue
is the bag going to be functional for you? and Can it be functional in general?
Ask more questions, such as if the handles are cracked ?
I'll check back and see what you have discovered.

Thanks for the response! The cracking is restricted to the top of the bag and lightly on the handle. Otherwise the body is fine, still supple leather, no stiching issues, and the interior is very clean. As for what I'd like to do, I want to know if the wear on the corners coulde be repaired (redyed/reglazed?) and if the cracking will worsen. I'd also like to do something about the resin if possible.

It's a 30cm so the size works for me, and I feel it would be functional. I don't mind a bit of character in a bag, but I don't want one that is in too bad of shape or something that can't be improved with some tlc.

I'm also looking at a raisin box piano from 2002 in excellent condition...so two very different Hs.

Hi doc, the area has dried and doesn't look as bad now. Is there anything I can do to mitigate the situation?

Separately, should I avoid using Apple Garde products altogether for Hermes leather? Perhaps they're too harsh? Thanks very much.
