Hi Docride! I purchased a brand new Hermes Cabag Twist in natural-sand Hunter calfskin.
Is there anything that I need to apply on the canvas and on the leather handle before using it? I hope you can help me. I read through the thread but I didn't see much (or maybe I missed it) with regards to canvas protection. Thank you so much!

Hi, I'm not handy with fabric so I'll refrain from recommending anything for your canvas. The Vache Hunter is suposed to patina right? Some Meltonian All Purpose Cleaner & Conditioner (this is a single product ) can be applied to your handles which can give you some protection from water blisters and stains.

Hi doc,
I searched this forum and I think I did not find any answer to my "problem".
I purchaded a pair of so lovely Land Boots in etriviere leather lately and I did not ware them so far as i am not sure how to treat them. it seems that this leather scratches easily because as i bought them in my store they already had some scratches. I don´t mind these but I don´t want to ruin the leather while wearing the boots in ugly weather and so on.
I would be pleased for some advice fron the expert:smile1:
thank you!!!

Sorry I am not familar with this leather name so I don't know what sort of leather it is . If it's a smooth finished small pored leather leather the kind that can take a polish (you can use Black Rocks leather N Rich or is it a open pored nappa type of semi finished or un finished soft handed slouchy sort of leather Meltonian All Purpose Clean Conditinoner

Hi Doc!

I have read through this forum and am amazed with your advice! I finally got my first birkins bag:smile1: but it is not in the greatest condition.. From far the bag looks clean but up close, you can tell the leather is dirty. Do you have any advice on how i can clean the bag or touch it up??

Any advice would be greatly appeciated!!
Thank you in advance!!!:D

Lexol PH Leather wipes might be a good start , just follow the directions on the container.

Hi Docride, just purchased a 35 year old Constance in Box Leather (chocolate color), and a few areas are showing some dryness but no deep cracks. Was thinking of doing a treatment with Blackrock's Leather n' Rich for conditioning, but was wondering if
1) is this the best product
In this case I like Blackrocks Leather N Rich followed by a good conditioning polish (you could choose another conditioner but this is my preference for Box Calf )
2) if this is OK, is there anything in particular I need to worry about (with regard to your instructions on previous threads)---for example, do I need to avoid the stitches on the bag? It is in very good structural condition (nothing loose or fraying). No you don't have to worry about the stitches and can just follow the directions given in this thread.

thanks so much!

My answers are ^^^^above in red. Good luck with you special bag!

Dear Docride, it's me again with my navy blue box Kelly shedding blue polish ;). So I've found some Saphir products and do I need to use their "Decapant" to remove the excess polish and then use transparent cream like "Baume 1789"? Thank you in advance :)

If I were you I would just buff the bag well in a cool room untill it's not or hardly showing color on your buffing cloth and then use a neutral polish to repolish and buff the bag again.

if you want to remove the old polish you can use a cleaner of some sort remeber that "like disolves like" so choose a emolient creamy waxy cleaner to remove old polish. (I am not familar with every brand intimately so use your judgement with the old "like disolves like" rule in mind. Transparent cream buame 1789 sounds like a conditioner not a polish so again use your judge ment and
ALWAYS TEST A SMALL HIDDEN AREA and wait to make sure you are going to be happy with the results of any product before working an entire panel.
Also keep in mind high pigment blue polish maybe helping to cover wear and color loss so you may need to repolish wth colored polsih when you remove the old polish...I hope this makes sense?

Hi Doc, I have a Q about Vache Espace - will it soften over time if heavily used, or will it stay stiff? I love mine either way, just curious.

Your bag will tend to stay quite stiff, even if very well conditioned it will hold it's shape nicely. the main thing with the stiffer leathers in judging how much they'll soften and slouch /relax is ;
1)how conditioned the leather is
2) How thick the leather is
3) how much distance is between supportive seams...
4) how much bending and stretching stress is placed on the leather (i.e. use or breaking of internal fibers =mis-use/abuse)

Thank you for you answer!
It is calf skin and it seems to be an "oiled" leather....
It scratches very easily but is semms to be a leather which has been "treated" before.
Sorry for my English.....
Here I send the link to a picture (although from a picture the right treatment might be hard to tell...):
