Hi Doc,

Hope you can help I posted around this years ago.

I need to refurbish my Hermes wallet, the colour has come off a bit, I bought Zaphir concentrate and Canadian cream in Hermes red for this purpose.

I applied it once and it went a bit sticky, now the surface is a little sticky.

Please advise the best method and instruction to apply colour and get it looking good again.

Hi, Sounds like you put too much of something on your wallet and didn't remove the excess and perhaps didn't buff out well enough...

Step 1> clean the surface, make sure to remove excess cleaner /conditioner the surface should not be tacky or stitcky.

step 2> apply color cream evenly in small circls and sparlingly allow it to set for a few minutes...

Step 3> Use a soft shine brush to buff off excess and bring up shine

Step4> Use a soft polishing cloth (lint free) and buff to high shine

Your finished work should be smooth and glossy and not tacky, not stitcky and not greasy.

I hope this helps.

Hi Doc, thanks for your help what cloth should I used to apply the cream?

hi Doc,
I have questions for you, I just got the 32 black box Kelly y circle 1995couple months ago. The first time I got it the line wasn't so obvious. Now when I'm using it like once a week for couple months now, I notice that the top of the bag in the middle and near the handle and the back of the bag near the strap left and right has a white line and kind of dry. So what do you suggest me to reconditioned the leather to prevent cracking?

and how for treat the scratch on the bag from my fingernail?

and if I do so, treating the leather myself, do Hermes will take the bag later on for spa, or I better off send the bag to Hermes spa for the first time?

thank you so much for the reading my post

It does not look to be that old, says V stamp ,but does not say if in a circle or just a V, based on what I see I would say this bag is most likely going to V in a circle and if so, then would be from 1991? As to the shine certainly a good polish and buffng will bring up a mirror like shine in the right hands.
The bag looks good from here, I don't see anything (from here) that looks frightful in terms of cracking or wear that would compromise the strength of the bag.
Best of luck.:smile1:

I agree with Doc, I don't think the bag is from 1966 but is much newer than that looking at various features of the bag. It should spa up beautifully, congratulations on a classic Kelly!

Hi Doc,
I bumped into this old post you advised on chanel lambskin last year. you mentioned Meltonian or Fiebings are the best bet to condition the dried lambskin. I also saw you mentioned blackrock conditioning product on the first few pages of this thread and highly recommended, which are mainly advice given on box leather.
I wonder what's the differences among these 3 types of conditioners? Is the skin type each product is suitable with different? I really want to learn this knowledge a bit to the depth as I have a small collection of handbags across many desingers (e.g. Cholie kid leather, Balenciaga Chevre and distressed goatskin, Gucci calf skin to just name a few of the leather types of my handbags).

Thank you very much in advance! :smile1:

Hello, Chanel Lambskin is always a bit of pain to work on... best bet is Meltonian All Purpose Cleaner & Conditioner Or Fiebings Baume with Atom wax (in neutral not black) If you have missing color on corners or edges use a very very small amount of Tarrago black dye and blend it carefully with a tiny sponge or edge of a sponge. Then use a conditioner (after first testing a small hidden area...and waiting 24hrs to make sure you like the results first) before proceeding to the whole bag... Teally the bag looks quite good. Be careful working on Chanel Lambskin ...it can get ugly in a hurry esp the light colored lambskins...yikes.. you should be OK if you are careful...and only working on Black Lambskin... Good luck:smile1:

Hi, Since I started this thread over 3 years ago there have been some changes,
Firstly the Mods will no longer allow questions that are not hermes leather questions.

The information I gave and you quoted was specific to Black Lambskin...
Lambskin in general can be very tricky to work with and I would say your best bet is to use a trusted professional esp if you have a light colored lambskin.
Yes , often each leather type may require different products .
Best bet is to ask around the forums here specific to the maker and the leather type.
I hope that helps.

Thx doc. I so wish you can be advising on other forums too!

Hi Doc, I just received my gorgeous new Black/Gold 30 Ardennes Birkin. I love the stiffness, and shine of Ardennes leather. I can't seem to find an answer as to whether Ardennes is a stamped leather like Epsom, or is it more textured like Togo. Do I have to worry about dryness and cracking? I had always heard that when Ardennes was discontinued, it was replaced by Togo. Do you have any answers? TIA Teressa :p

Can you show some photos? Please help me understand what you mean by "white line" with a photo or two.
OK?

Congrats on your beautiful Ardennes leather bag.
Ardennes leather is lovely stuff, I am sorry I do not know the answer as to wether it is embossed like Epsom or has been through a similar process of stretching and such like Vache Leigee ( I suspect the later)

Worrying about driness and cracking? Check the leather...is it dry and overly stiff? If so then yes it may need some conditioning. Certainly Ardennes like other leather types can get so dry it can crack.

I hope this helps.?

Thanks Doc, I'm leaning towards Ardennes being similiar to Vache Leigee & Vache Trekking, since they are together in the same leather reference thread. The leather isn't dry at all.......I just wanted to know if I should condition it on a regular basis. Thanks for your help!! Teressa:smooch:

Hello! I have a question about a bag I am interested in that is 9 years old. It has a loose turnlock. I have been searching for the past 30 minutes for any mentions of loose turnlocks, but I can't find a definitive description/photo of what that means. Is this a deal breaker? Can it be fixed? From the photos of the bag, the turnlock looks normal. So when it is loose-- does that mean it is pulling away from the leather? I apologize for all of the questions, just trying to determine if I should invest in this bag or not.

OK?

these are some pics i took tonight hope this help. The white lines wasn't so obvious on the dark or night time, but when i bring out in the day or in the bright room the lines look so obvious and dry.

thank you so much doc
